I don’t think the uk is better financially tbh. I think their tax is going to be really complex.

Agree - Americans have to pay tax to the state no matter where you live in the world (there's various things you can do to prevent being double taxed on the same income but it's a complicated pain to manage it all)

However UK citizens usually don't have to even think about UK taxes when they live abroad.

Why admit you're surprised....surely you'd just suck it up

Narcs always have to have the last word, can't ignore a slight.
I love that they thought their "clarifications" to the letter would have been meet and welcomed - right up there with continuing to collaborate with the Queen.

justcallmemarywhitehouse · 08/09/2026 20:06

Yes , they thought move to UK then as it's all going so well they will just sell the Montecito pile as "they won't need it " without drawing attention to the fact they can't afford it - oops wait...

SirChenjins · 08/09/2026 20:14

I think they came back to work on getting back into the Royal sphere gradually by stealth in order to give their children a royal future. They would blur the lines by reconnecting with their various charities, then rekindling relationships with the outer royals and working inwards, then going to family events, and slowly building into roles that are royal by association. This from KC has thrown a big old spanner in the works.

I’ve read every thread on this and have literally wracked my brains and still can’t understand why they are here ??

Why?

They had loads of money and a pretty fucking relaxed cosseted life where the media left them alone - genuinely looks like they got no hassle at all

Me too. I know H wasn’t happy in California, I suspect that he needs to renew his royal adjacency and that he wants his children To be as royal as William’s, but there must be some more pressing, urgent reason too: visa? Money?

I can just about understand why H might yearn to return to some golden age fantasy of his old life - but Meghan? I’m amazed she’s consented to this move.

😂 They're the equivalent of someone who resigns from a company to go self-employed and then complains bitterly that on their final day that the company car was taken off them and, not only that, they haven't received a pay cheque from the company since. Bastards!

And then the company sends out a letter to all relevant parties stating that Fred no longer works here without passing it by Fred for him to add his clarifications.

I think they’ve behaved dreadfully and am absolutely not a H&M supporter but I do want to chip in about the security issue.

They can’t pay for their own security and nor can the King to the equivalence that they had before they left.

Harry offered (eventually, under duress) to pay for the specialist police protection but was told no, because that opens the door to the specialist officers being guns for hire for any rich individuals.

The private security they could pay for can’t carry guns because of U.K. laws.

NolanChanceJustLikeTheWeatherNSoul · 08/09/2026 20:30

If they had learned anything they would've remained a dignified silence
Nah here for the money and material gathering harvest before fucking off to where ever

Traceyatnumber32isaloudgobshite · 08/09/2026 20:32

Why did they feel the need to publicly respond? They could have responded in private if they had beef. A dignified (public) silence is what they needed to do if they wanted everyone to believe they're not here for attention.
Its Jeremy Kyle...Royal edition.

Fred is very, very, surprised and asks for clarification.

HR: 'Which part of it would like clarification on, Fred?'

"The bit that says 'Fred no longer works here.' I was under the impression I still did."

HR: (short silence).... 'but you handed in your notice, Fred, to go self-employed?...'

"Yes but, no but, yes but, I thought I could still do both"

HR: silent mouthing of WTF!

@HeddaGarbled I suppose they'll have to be content to hire whatever types of security professionals are available to other wealthy people in the UK. They can ask around :-).

There has been mention that the UK billionaire, Ian Wace, is funding them so I don't think there are financial worries. He and Harry are meant to be close (another father figure?) but I always think there's no such thing as a free lunch/mansion so there could well be conditions attached. Perhaps the support would be withdrawn if they left the country? It could all be bollocks of course.

I think he was told on the Sunday, they moved back on the Wednesday and there was no prior discussion to that. I've no idea why they came back, waiting for them to say they don't feel safe or welcome so are going back to the USA but Trump doesn't want them either, they've burnt too many bridges.

Lol, sorry, if Trump doesn't like them then they are doing something right imo.
Trump likes people like Putin.

I always got the impression that Ian Wace is quite a private person so not sure he would want to be dragged into the Sussex shenanigans.

workshy46 · 08/09/2026 21:09

They weren’t working royals for long enough for it really to stick and they have monetised it all now - there are simply no more stories to tell as they have been cut off for over 6 years. They need proximity to the royals to garner financial interest , being here is the only way. They know once George Charlotte and Lois come of age the focus will shift to them. Harry saw it happen to Andre and fergie who were huge stars , not Diana level on their own right until William and Harry grew up and the spotlight shifted. It was an unwise statement , they should have said nothing or just simply agreed. It makes them looks petty and it can’t have gone down well when they need to improve relations. Also I doubt they have a huge amount of money left - security, lifestyle and staff will have burned through huge amounts of what they have earned

Err, you seem to be assuming a lot about the level of security HAM had when they were working royals.

And to have missed All The Posts on the RF forum that explain that Anne and Edward get security only when on official duties.

Only the Monarch and Heir ( and their families) get the full 24/7365.

Also, HAM were paying for their own security in Cali.

As @IcedPurple said on one of these threads, we need a post-note stickie at the top of the thread explaining this point.

Superhansrantowindsor · 08/09/2026 21:44

IcedPurple · 08/09/2026 18:07

We really need a stickie at the top of each discussion for this!

Being the King's son is not a reason for taxpayer funded security. Edward, Andrew and Anne were also children of a reigning monarch and did not get full time security. Harry will only be granted security on the base of RAVEC's threat assessments, which might indicate no security is needed at all.

These facts have been pointed out many, many times on these discussions.

It might be the rules but my opinion (that matters not one jot in the grand scheme of things) is that he should get security paid for. He has a much higher profile than many other royals because of his mum. But I also think Edward and Sophie etc should have security.

And so begins another Epstein- type scandal down the line. Wace may not have the Epstein proclivities, but he is associated with Soros whomis a bit of a disruptor. KC3 is right to draw a line between HAM an the RF/HoS function at this point, for this very reason (and several more).

You're right. It doesn't matter what you or I think they 'should' have.

The specialists at RAVEC are the ones who decide, on the basis of sophisticated risk assessments.

Full time personal protection is an extremely expensive and scarce resource which isn't just handed out on a whim. If that's not to Harry's liking, well, he still has the gaff in California, doesn't he?

He gets security relevant to the level of threat. If it’s deemed necessary, he will have armed security. If it’s isn’t, he won’t.
He can pay for private security, he can’t pay for armed security and intelligence. No one can

I don’t see what the would have to take issue about in the letter really. Didn’t it just re confirm their position as non working royals which is what they wanted all along?
if they dont want press attention then why have they made a big deal out of this? I dont care about them either way but I’ve been off sick today so I’ve seen it on the news several times
