The royal family

The dislike and disgust people feel for Markle is entirely deserved and entirely of her own doing

I would argue that many of us hold Harry in far higher disgust than Meghan, they were his family, he grew up in the Monarchy, if he didn’t understand the rules how could she?
and finally as much as her behaviour is toxic, I certainly don’t subscribe to the sexist trope that the woman is to blame.

Lumpyarse · 09/09/2026 00:35

Anyone else keen to know what H&Ms clarifications / edits would have been. “I’m more surprised” that they didn’t tell us what they would have said

Gymnopedie · 09/09/2026 00:38

Have they said what it was about it that surprised them? That the statement was made at all, that it was made public, that it put them in their box as private citizens?

And what would have been their 'clarifications'? I didn't see anything to clarify, it was abundantly clear.

@AuntieBiotics maybe, but that still doesn't make safe to me if they're as unsafe as they claim to be.

Not a chance in hell I'd consider moving my children to a place they weren't safe (unless forced to ie when war disrupts countries)! If that meant they couldn't have the schooling I wanted them to have then that would be very sad but I'd have to accept it as a consequence.

So either they have found a way to live here safely, in which case there presumably isn't a need for taxpayer funded security, or they've grossly exaggerated the risks, OR they don't care about the risks?

It can't be the latter because they genuinely come across as devoted parents.

It's also a bizarre time to move back to the UK, racism has increased horribly here. Why put meghan through that when she struggled so much before?

If for some reason they need a country other than the States to be their main residence then they're fortunate enough to be able to take their pick.

She didn’t ’struggle with racism’ she struggled with her fucking awful behaviour.
When her conduct was not accepted THEN she decided to cry racism.
She is a plant. A grifter. Stupid Harry made a huge mistake marrying her and they will only remain married for as long as there is money to be made.
They want IPP status, which is much more than just security.

I think they’ve behaved dreadfully and am absolutely not a H&M supporter but I do want to chip in about the security issue.

They can’t pay for their own security and nor can the King to the equivalence that they had before they left.

Harry offered (eventually, under duress) to pay for the specialist police protection but was told no, because that opens the door to the specialist officers being guns for hire for any rich individuals.

The private security they could pay for can’t carry guns because of U.K. laws.

This is my understanding too. Also, Ken Wharfe has said that in the time he was PPO to William and Harry as kids, and later to Diana before she dismissed her royal security, he only felt the need to draw his gun twice. And neither time came close to firing it.

He says the most important piece of equipment for anyone protecting the royals is a radio, to keep abreast of any up-to-the-minute impending threats and to call for backup if needed. Given HAM have been given a direct line to Scotland Yard, their private (non-armed) security should be ample. And they should pay for it themselves as private citizens.

BemusedAmerican · 09/09/2026 02:38

If Harry is so concerned about his safety, why is he skydiving for charity? It sounds incredibly risky. Will his private security have to skydive with him?

Mikki77 · 09/09/2026 06:24

I get the feeling this is all being filmed....new documentary coming out soon.

They don't "keep" making announcements about them. They've made precisely four in the last six years.

True, and the original output from the palace was in the form of a letter sent out to Government departments/the military emphasising the Sussex's status, not an announcement.

I think the aim of that was to ensure everyone likely to be approached to facilitate events involving the pair had a record on file to quote back at them if pressure was being applied to make them special...e.g.

" Yes, Group Captain Biggles here, RAF Sleaford..thank you for your e-mail.

Look, I have an official letter here dated Sept 2026 which says you are private citizens...so we can't roll out the red carpet for you, can't put on lunch in the Officer Mess, but if you want to you can join in with the Scouts visit on the 25th....we'll let the guardroom know you are coming and they'll add you to the list".

What has Diana got to do with Harry’s security? She famously refused Met security

I just meant he has a very high profile. For some reason people are crazy about Diana.

Superhansrantowindsor · 08/09/2026 17:45

It seems to me that they like releasing stuff when the Cambridge family are in the news.

I still think that security should be paid for by the state. He can’t help being the kings son.

I'm reasonably confident it will be.

Velvian · 09/09/2026 07:14

It seems like they must still be surrounded by sycophants, which is not going to be helpful to them in reading the room accurately.

Their going rogue was extremely badly timed in terms of the Epstein/AMW problems. There really has to be zero tolerance of entitled behaviour where it sits outside of the strict parameters of the royal machine.

I think other family members like Princess Margaret would have felt some changes had they still been around in this era.

renovationchoas · 09/09/2026 07:20

It will be interesting to see how the security thing goes. On the one hand, Harry can’t help being the king’s son. On the other hand, the U.K. is home to some very wealthy and very famous people, who presumably don’t get taxpayer funded security?

Lifestooshort71 · 09/09/2026 07:23

PrincessofWills · 09/09/2026 07:05

I'm reasonably confident it will be.

...and it will be if/when RAVEC deem it necessary. 🥱

Lifestooshort71 · 09/09/2026 07:26

Rhaidimiddim · 08/09/2026 22:17

Nothing "petty" about it. The security they want would cost the UK taxpayer a lot of money, and drain a very scarce resource. (And possibly making recruitment for that branch of The Met more difficult.)

I agree. I wouldn't want my child (in the Met) taking a bullet for either of them!

Fizbosshoes · 09/09/2026 07:27

I think Meghan in particular has been treated unfairly and badly by the British press.

They have also had (and took) lots of opportunities to tell their side of the story. With far more detail than would have been possible, had they still been fully within the RF.

I dont blame them for wanting to leave when they did, and seemingly they had a nice set up in California.

I thought (but obviously only know how media reports it) thry wanted a sort of part time working royals role....which wasnt permitted so they left and were not working royals.
Unless they were specifically told otherwise, im unsure why they would bhe surprised that the arrangement remains the same.

Wedgewood · 09/09/2026 07:30

Rhaidimiddim · 08/09/2026 21:47

And so begins another Epstein- type scandal down the line. Wace may not have the Epstein proclivities, but he is associated with Soros whomis a bit of a disruptor. KC3 is right to draw a line between HAM an the RF/HoS function at this point, for this very reason (and several more).

Wasn’t Soros rumoured to have funded their trip to Colombia and Harry’s to Ukraine? Or has that been debunked? It wouldn’t surprise me if a bored billionaire decided to use them as a plaything now they are desperate.

Yeah, it's not about being "the King's son" because it's about risk, not status. RAVEC evaluate the risk, security is then provided.
Being a Prince isn't the primary issue.

Why is that? After Epstein, who is to say what’s unlikely to these types of men? And isn’t their Archewell Foundation just the sort of org these people funnel their spare cash through? Cash that can be siphoned off as “expenses”.

Soros is hardly Epstein! But he is a bogeyman name thrown around by people with a certain mindset.

Do you have any evidence of any connection between Harry/Meghan and Soros? In what way would he benefit from paying for them to go to Colombia and Ukraine? Does 96-year-old Soros even have any idea what Harry and Meghan are up to or even who they are?

Why would Harry and Meghan even need any external and unrelated person to fund them to go to Colombia and Ukraine when those trips were funded by the Colombian and Ukrainian governments? There may even be some Invictus funding, since those trips were broadly related to the Invictus Games, which could mean that the UK government is also indirectly funding part of them. You as a taxpayer paid for them! (For what it's worth, I think one target of the King's clarification letter about their non-royal status was Harry's activity with the Invictus Games, which are government sponsored and involve foreign governments and foreign ministries of defence as well as foreign militaries, which could lead to confusion around whether he is officially representing the British state - he isn't.)

Trying to implicate Soros is just daft conspiracy theory stuff, especially when there is no secret about the funding of these trips.

Oh that's done it..

Without wishing to feed H's paranoia if he has concerns along those lines and it's a solo jump he might want to look at one or two nasties that have happened in the usually very very safe skydiving world in the last decade or so..

That aside I suspect we're talking a tandem jump so there will be other parties interested in making sure everything works OK.

They weren’t working royals for long enough for it really to stick and they have monetised it all now - there are simply no more stories to tell as they have been cut off for over 6 years. They need proximity to the royals to garner financial interest , being here is the only way. They know once George Charlotte and Lois come of age the focus will shift to them. Harry saw it happen to Andre and fergie who were huge stars , not Diana level on their own right until William and Harry grew up and the spotlight shifted. It was an unwise statement , they should have said nothing or just simply agreed. It makes them looks petty and it can’t have gone down well when they need to improve relations. Also I doubt they have a huge amount of money left - security, lifestyle and staff will have burned through huge amounts of what they have earned

Not to forget the 9.5 million Harry has just paid in legal costs for his failed case against the DM. And that's only an interim payment. I suspect money is at the root of this return. Income streams have dried up in the US, no-one is interested there, but they can still stir things up here and gain financially from public interest.

Yes, it's not a great plan, but.... they're not great planners.
