@Lampzadeis not new on the board Austen , her opinions on the Sussex’s are not new either.

You're correct as so often, Jeff, and the poster you're referring to was one of those who was very keen to ascribe any objection to Meghan's behaviour to racism

Obviously there's little positive to say in H&Ms' defence now that behaviour's led to the utter failure so many of us foresaw, so I guess we're back to "why do you care" and the like, for want of anything better

And I'm still trying like hell to catch up ... my blasted flight time t cancelled last night and I'm stuck in Rome until Thursday night Sad

Genuine question as I have no experience of working for charities

What freebies could they expect to get?

I wouldn't have expected M to get anything more than a bouquet of flowers but I may be being naive about all of this . . . .

They could actually be asking for appearance fees (with confidentiality agreements over them). Lots of people are paid to work for charities and definitely for other organisations. The celebrity speaker circuit is very lucrative for some and I would be surprised if H wasn’t tapping into that market. But the RF as public figures do not charge for appearances (they have already been paid to do them).

Yes, the schools are all in session now.

One of mine isn’t. We start next week! Loooooong summer.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 09/09/2026 08:56

My niece (state school) doesn’t go back until tomorrow. But that’s so exceptionally late that my sister actually checked that 10
Sept wasn’t a typo!

Hadn't his appearance fee dropped? I'm not sure what Harry can talk about, apart from his own sense of resentment.

Sounds tiring puzzled ! But still far more glamorous than my life!😁 , your post has made me think of a question to ask the thread though!

No! That's so frustrating. What a nightmare. This is what happens when systems crash.

Spaniels4Eva · 09/09/2026 09:01

I wonder how many emails their office is now getting saying thanks but no thanks to having them anywhere near charities/organisations...

So they uproot their life and move over here cos Harry is worried about Pa, then he has made no effort to contact him since he arrived! Gosh I do hope Charles has the ‘right’ people around him!

Hopefully he stays in Balmoral as long as possible .

I am sure plenty of people would be happy to hear him talk about that but it does seem likely they wouldn’t want to pay too much to do so.

@LoudTealHare
Oi- speak for yourself!

I think these threads are some of the most amusing, witty, erudite and interesting on MN. They are 90% very good-humoured too, with few personal attacks and insults.

But thanks for the 'Letting them live rent-free in your head' and 'get a life' jibes. Do you realise that they figure on our bingo card on this board? I've just knocked out 2 of the best hackneyed and half-baked phrases already and it's not even breakfast yet.

(And can you explain why so many of these daft 'contributions' come from pps with usernames adjective+colour+noun? Interesting!)

It’s what they see when they’re looking for a new user name. I’ve done it myself 😳 my next user name will be DogEaredBookNearYellowLampshade

What were the rumours on x?

Seraw · 09/09/2026 09:04

smilesy · 09/09/2026 08:35

I agree this is likely. What I don't quite get is what the Sussexes are hoping to achieve through these re engagements with charities. They are not going to be able to earn any money through patronages. The most they can hope for is expenses and a few freebies. Where is their income stream supposed to
come from?

The charity "engagements" give HAM easy publicity and an aura of royalty-adjacancy (note the word "engagements"... not sure that the non-royal celebrity charity patrons use that word?).

It costs HAM nothing apart from a couple of phone calls, and a few hours of shaking hands and being photographed next to smiling people who look grateful to meet them.

It gives HAM an ego boost. It also gives them free publicity, and (most importantly) helps to sustain the fake-royal status which is ultimately all they really have to sell. All their actual moneymaking activities depend on that. And high-visibility charity visits are an easy way to create the fake-royal look. Without any actual work put in to support the charities, obviously.

Damning article by Sarah Vine in the DM.
https://archive.is/SP7lw

l know lots of people hate the DM -but here’s a poll they are doing.
Yes, yes I know the demographic of the DM swings towards liking the RF/Indifference but not being keen on HAM.
This poll has been done by over 70,000 people though. Nit the usual ‘out of 273 people asked’ malarky .

I believe that HaM don’t realise how disliked they are and how much indifference there is towards their ‘work’ 🙄
Today, their shock at being private individuals rather than public figures shows their utter utter lack of self aware. They create hubris wherever they go but think they are loved -Harry especially. Is it starting to trickle in? Meghan is more self awareness on this than Harry - she is keeping her head down because (l think ) she’s terrified of being booed. Imagine that.
Be a bit like the bread bun lobbing at Camilla in Waitrose after the Diana interview went out.
But it’s so so much worse than that was.
They WANT to be seen as ‘public figures’ because they want the paid for security. I don’t for a second think that Meghan gives a shit about any British charity, she just wants the security because of the status that gives.

Anyway -here’s the poll.

Yeah, although I imagine it would be quite boring. I'm wondering what the fee would be?.

diddl · 09/09/2026 09:07

They are trying to get relevance and more ‘public profile’ to re-energise commercial offerings

All the "clap backs" keep them in the news-but at what price in the light it shows them?

Seraw · 09/09/2026 09:07

OlympicWomen · 09/09/2026 08:04

So they insist on titles.
They insist that they are "public figures".
Harry wants the same security as former Prime Ministers.
So, no notion of a low key, private life, eh?

Yeah, although I imagine it would be quite boring. I'm wondering what the fee would be?.

When they first left Harry got paid $1million for his first speech. He wittered on about himself and his dead mother.
Fast forward to last year - he got paid $50,000 ( Australian dollars ) for a speech which didn’t sell all of the tickets.
How much would people pay to hear him here! Their ‘brand’ is utterly tainted. No company /organisation will want to pay out big money when he is considered so toxic.

As the person who was concerned about Blind items at the beginning of the thread I thought I would just clarify.

I wasn't expecting them to be banned, it's a public forum, apologises if that was thought to be my aim. I was mentioning my own discomfort with this type of rumour because I try to be fair and if they were about William or Catherine, both of whom have similar unpleasant rumours spread here fairly regularly, I would be commenting on them. It didn't feel right to me not to at least register my feeling that posting rumours and photos doesn't make them true or even likely to have happened.

There is obviously interest in X posts, probably because so many people don't go there anymore.

Retireornot · 09/09/2026 09:10

Did anyone see the new Matt cartoon? Gave me a chuckle. I will try and post it.
