I think that’s why the timing of the statement. KC making his views on their security situation crystal clear ahead of those decisions.

I really hope they don't get the security they want. They should be encouraged to leave UK tbh. Today's clap back proves they will continue to be "disrupters"

Richard Kay's essay on "the letter".

Thanks for sharing .
Any word from Richard Eden who was adamant that Project Thaw was happening!?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/09/2026 13:14

bluegreygreen · 08/09/2026 12:24

My assumption would be because it isn't actually a new statement, but clarification of the existing situation, @Puzzledandpissedoff.

If it was a new decision, it would be a formal statement from the Palace in the monarch's name.

Actually yes, that's fair, bluegreygreen
I stand by my view that things could change and that we'd get another load of spin, but I could easily be wrong in that it's just an earlier position being repeated rather than something new for Charles to put his name to

Had to smile at the "spokesman's" clapback about H&Ms' surprise though. You'd think they might consider their own surprise news which was bounced on the RF as they left, but considering things clearly isn't a skill

Clarification of what? Facts need no clarification

They do when they're H&Ms' alternative version, @jeffgoldblum Wink
I suspect what they really wanted was the opportunity to argue about it, but so far that seems to have been denied

As for where they'll go and how they'll fund themselves, not having an official role doesn't exclude family funding, but I'd expect that would come with conditions Meghan would find impossible so it's watch this space

smilesy · 08/09/2026 13:15

Chrysanthemumsinpots · 08/09/2026 13:08

Yes but I suspect that has a lot to do with having success built on her own efforts and talent. Not just relying on her association with the RF (though I am sure she recognises that for the opportunity it gave her to develop those talents).

I agree but Anne had to work hard for her success, it wasn’t just down to talent. And I also
think she is pragmatic and has always had a sense of duty, like her mother. Harry has none of these qualities unfortunately so I suspect that, even if he had a talent he could build on, he would not have wanted to put in the work necessary to develop that talent, or recognise that his position in life had given him the opportunity to do so

Clapback time.

I'm not sure what part of letter needed clarification; it covered all the bases.

They didn't need to respond. This wasn't a debate, it was a statement. They still don't get it! 🙄

If I was in charge of their security I wouldn’t tell them what it was or would provide as little information as possible. Having them share details would be nightmare.

He will be disappointed if he doesn’t get outriders stopping traffic though.

Our local (upmarket) bakery is looking for staff .

Upmarket you say? Do they use flower sprinkles?

noonames · 08/09/2026 13:17

Their clapback is hilarious - what could there be to clarify or correct when nothing has changed? Evidently they thought something had changed, or would change, and living as private citizens was absolutely not the plan.

It is interesting to think about their motivation for returning when it makes them look like idiots - presumably not to do with educating the children because of Meghan’s fears about the paparazzi, not because they like it here, they have made that very clear, not because they don’t like it in USA, they have made that clear too, not for job opportunities as neither have anything much to offer, not because they want to spend time with family when the children hadn’t seen Charles for several years, not to be working royals - that life made Meghan mentally ill, not because they need money, since they still have to earn a living wherever they go. Maybe it is a visa issue. Or maybe they were hoping to wriggle back into public life and get the free house and security. Maybe they are looking for new royal content for NF. Maybe they are positioning themselves for the scenario of Charles dying fairly soon and William needing help while his children are still growing up. But instead it looks like no free house, no free security and definitely no chance of royal adjacency, in public anyway. Yet another strategic blunder by the looks of it.

DaisyDooley · 08/09/2026 13:18

It’s about time HaM were told that making yourself a target when you are a private citizen does not entitle you to armed police taxpayer funded security.

IF they were really worried about their safety why on earth would they come and live in the UK? If it’s so fucking unsafe why would they bring their children?
I currently wouldn’t take DD to live in an unsafe country - and then blab about it.

Armed police are roles which are voluntary. Nobody is forced to do this role.
Equally, then it narrows down -nobody is forced when they are armed police to become PPO. Not everybody wants to fling themselves in front of a bullet to protect the ‘principle’.
People who are protected are growing in number -we have never had as many living ex prime ministers. If you were in the MET would you volunteer to be armed - PPO for little extra pay to be possibly allocated to HaM and their dreadful way of treating ‘staff’?

The clapback -we were not consulted - well I don’t know why they think they would be. They were being informed of a decision-not being asked for an opinion.

George and the Prince & Princess of Wales look lovely, united and happy. Not that we expected anything less.

Couldn't they go up north and be prince and princess of the North?

What have the people of 'the North' done wrong? Where does 'the North' start? Maybe they could be employed the Burnham's No 10 North, I'm sure the plain speaking northerners will make them very welcome!

DaisyDooley · 08/09/2026 13:22

Harry and his wife have no right to "clarify" anything. This was a statement issued by BP reiterating that their status is as private citizens. They knew what was agreed in 2020 and nothing about this statement should have come as a surprise. They were copied in as a matter of courtesy, This statement is not something that requires their consent or collaboration. Their temerity in continuing to answer back and tantrum should result in a swift removal of their titles as punishment.

DaisyDooley · 08/09/2026 13:22

George has an easy confidence that William never had -stability in his life methinks.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/09/2026 13:26

I can't think of much they've done which doesn't make them look like idiots, no names, but what I can't understand is why they keep doing it when failure's guaranteed every time

We all make mistakes, but isn't doing the same thing while expecting a different outcome said to be the definition of insanity?

Perhaps it really is the drugs ...

I'm not sure about insanity but it's certainly a sign of immaturity (to not acknowledge when you've made mistakes, learn from the experience and not repeat it)

This clap back made me LOL … me thinks they had ideas that have been shafted! And the hilarity that THEY should have been consulted … the extraordinarily thicko dimwits really think they’re sliming their way back in to their half in half out bollox 🤣🤣🤣

You are forgetting that Windsor men age like milk, and (hopefully!) George won't be king for around 40 years.
May he find honourable ways of filling that time.

StormGazing · 08/09/2026 13:32

I also think they did good timing for delivering the letter, as now it’s been seen, laughed at, everyone knows they’ve been well and truly told under no uncertain terms, and now we’ve all moved onto Prince George and school, clap back will be muted now

DaisyDooley · 08/09/2026 13:34

The irony of them expecting to be given chance to ‘clarify’ a statement by BP when they gave the King three days notice of moving to the UK.
They really are dreadful people.
I dont think we will see many decent people rushing to associate themselves with them.
Christmas at Sandringham? Hell will freeze over first
I will bet a wheel of Wensleydale on that.

While I think William went though a ‘rough’ stage in his 30s I think he is looking gorgeous now.
George is also technically only 1/4 Windsor. He’s 1/4 Spencer and 1/2 Middleton.

I think that’s why the timing of the statement. KC making his views on their security situation crystal clear ahead of those decisions.

I agree, Harry getting tax payer funded security is so unpopular in the UK that it will also backfire on the RF if he does get the equivalent security as the King and William, this way King Charles is distancing himself should RAVEC approve the kind of security Harry wants for him and his family.

It also adds a very clear layer of clarity to the considerations for his security demands, i.e. reemphasising he is a private citizen.

Harry has a full time team of elite bodyguards protecting him and his family, I am sure that will be part of the consideration when RAVEC do their review, the way some of their WhatsApp media group are playing it, they make it sound like he is going about his day to day stuff solo with zero protection at all.

It was H singing to the seals wasn't it ??

I think Meg sang, the seals erupted in spontaneous applause and that's how H knew she was the one. Or at least that was what he spouted in Spare.
