Pair of absolute gas lighters. Ive never seen anything like it. People will study MM in years to come.

How can two people go and globally smear a whole country, their monarchy, their family over and over again and then walk back in like nothing happened expecting no one to mention it. How can they have the gall to say they are 'surprised' they didn't get to walk in and have it all handed back to them.

Ive said it before and ill say it again. Either they are batshit crazy or we are.

Why would their children ever have been working royals even if they'd stayed as working royals??

The children of Anne, Andrew and Edward are not working royals and are the equivalent of Archie and Lili.

The idea that you can have parents who are not working royals, who reject the whole institution, and personally attack the key players in it, and then their children 20 years later when their supposedly evil uncle is King can now get a job back with the firm is so absurd it's laughable and an indication of their delusional thinking.

Didn't Andrew beg for Bea and Eugenie to be working royals? And was repeatedly told no. And B&E were brought up knowing how to behave as royals in public.
There's no way A&L would be given the chance.
As per PP, yes it happened in the Princess Diaries, but that's Anne Hathaway, who would probably be one of the few people who actually COULD start working as a Royal and do it very well. She'd also be a lovely sidekick for Catherine and not try to barge her way to the front all the time.
In fact, Anne Hathaway would be great as a working royal 😂

On the BBC website . . .

It is also understood a Home Office security committee is meeting today to look at the possibility of tax payer funded security for the family now they are living back in the UK

DaisyDooley · 08/09/2026 09:57

I think it’s quite a bittersweet and with beautifully subtle timing that today is of course the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Seraw · 08/09/2026 09:57

I'm interested in the ramifications of the timing here.

The boundary-setting letter ("these grifters don't represent me or any of the RF, so don't be fooled into unrolling the red carpet") is coming after Harry has committed to moving back to the UK and educating his kids here. With the odd visit from Meghan, of course, when she can spare time from her busy busy life of fruit spread.

This is really terrible timing, from the HAM point of view. Too early for them to have got their feet under a lot of tables, and too late for them to change their minds about moving here, unless they want to lose an awful lot of face.

And the timing is entirely their own doing. They hid their plans for as long as possible, and then announced them to KC at the last moment, as a fait accompli. (I'm still awed at just how unnecessarily rude it was, actually, to meet with your dad and deliberately not mention that you were planning to move back to his country in a few weeks. Just utterly abnormal.) So there was no previous opportunity for the RF to clarify what their position would be.

HAM played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.

It really is paranoia. Seriously, he needs help.

Cannabis use is well know to cause paranoia

Chrysanthemumsinpots · 08/09/2026 10:10

“Some people will say, ‘But they’re private citizens.’ Nonsense. Utter nonsense. They are two of the most high-profile people in the world,” the friend insisted. “The idea that Harry, who is the King’s son and brother to the future King, could ever live an entirely private life is for the birds.”

This is a complete misunderstanding of what being a private citizen means.

DaisyDooley · 08/09/2026 10:10

DH who isn’t a royal fan at all & will barely discuss them with me thinks Harry is an utter knob.
Being the ‘spare’ with a brother like William, when you had a fabulous bond with his wife too was the best role to have. All of the glamour -the fabulous homes, feted wherever you go, staff, never having to book a flight or clean the loo, no money worries, going to the best events (Premiers, Trooping, banquets, state events, top sporting/music events)but none of the immense pressure being head of state entails. No red boxes.
And of course -security. State provided security.
As pointed out earlier, they had a year to think about this-and look how they used that year.
They has so many opportunities but the problem was that neither of them had any talent. They didn’t get to be ‘famous’ because of any talent or hard work. Love them or loathe them -Adele, Elon Musk, JK Rowling, Elton John, James Dyson, Richard Branson- they only got to be fabulously wealthy &famous because of a huge talent and decades of hard work. HaM were not able to or capable of doing this because a) neither of them have any talent/skill/vision b) neither of them like hard work -they expect others to do the work while they reap the rewards.
I fear they will clap back hard which will simply ensure that their humiliation is not yet complete.
The Palace has -as it always has done- has the upper hand.
They should be stripped of all titles and removed from the royal website.
They are huge examples of FAFO.

I am also wondering if there was a concern that something would be in the offing from the Sussexes on George’s first day at Eton 🤷‍♀️

That will go down like a lead balloon with the public considering the state of the countries finances.

I'm probably over thinking but would this be why Palace released statement? If they do get security, Palace can say, well nothing to do with us ?

lizzyBennet08 · 08/09/2026 10:18

I think it's clear that Harry has come back for a financial reasons and b because he still believes somehow that his children can be working royals , the reality is that his children particularly as thr Wales marry and have children of their own will be so far down the list of succession as to be utterly irrelevant .
I think he struggles with the idea that his children may have to 'work ' a day job given the status that he grew up with.
Coming back was a misguided attempt to keep them front and centre and force the issue of security ( and status by default in Harry's eyes). Can't see it working

I don't think it's that, though it helps.

I'm inclined to suspect the same as others that the pair had perhaps started sniffing around looking for visits, parades etc where they could be on full view as visiting dignitaries....

To my eyes the message that came out yesterday was a straight forward, not overly complex statement to stakeholders - so that's the likes of civil servants, military station commanders, Lord Lieutenants, police, etc that if they have any dealings with the office of this pair remember that H and M now civilians/private citizens.

It seems that the idea of actually having to work for a living is something Harry considers anathema and something to be avoided at all costs. It's for the proles, don't you know.

Definitely money and he was miserable in Cali by all accounts. But I really can't see how he can make money in UK? Will he make his corporate speeches here akin to the ones he made in US where he talked about his own mental health and his dead mother?

Agree with this but I also think it was “a shot across the bows” as the BBC put it yesterday. A kind of “we see you” to the Sussexes if you like

There should be a health warning attached to articles like this about H&M

"Reading about the Duke & Duchess of Sussex and their sense of entitlement may harm your blood pressure. Caution should be taken when reading articles and you should only read them whilst sitting down. Unfortunately there is no remedy available if reading the articles cause you to shout, swear, tear your hair out or run into the street screaming. However some readers have found that drinking a soothing alcoholic beverage has had calming properties"

Sorry for any injury caused, @AustenitesUnite 💐

😁

It has probably been mentioned but I do find it interesting that there is no personal touch to the statement. No “ HAM remain much loved members of the family” etc.
It’s a very clinical statement and you can almost sense the frustration .

Yes, this one is very much the King attending to necessary business.

WingnutSOS · 08/09/2026 10:48

@Starryfifty i think he’s mistaken of he thinks the UK public have much of an appetite for his mental health chat - there are way way better, more informed, better communicators in this space.

As for milking the Diana thing…..interest is waning. It’s grabby and distasteful. No question in my mind the move is partly related to gleaning as many pennies out of the upcoming 30th anniversary as poss. Ghoulish.

jeffgoldblum · 08/09/2026 10:52

It’s been pointed out that the new pm met with and attended church with the king and queen on Sunday, Monday we have this statement released to the government etc….
perhaps this is not a coincidence and burnham is fed up and not going to put up with Harry hassling him and his cabinet over his personal wants?
