I see the latest spin from the fans is that the rf desperately need them back to start working again to pick up the slack, which of course is partially caused by those lazy Wales' 🙄. Charles practically begged them and due to being such selfless people, they agreed. Can't see this being the case.

But there were SEVEN involved in that case.
Doreen aside, if he said he'd cover her, why are they making out he's got to pay the lot?
Elton's loaded.
Surely, if Daily Fail wants all the 30 something million back (punitive and above what was estimated) it is still "only" 2 and a bit mill each and so 4-5 for Harry paying Doreen's too, 4-5 for Elton if he is paying David's as well, and the other 3 pay their 2 million each. Liz Hurley can afford it probably. Not sure about the other two.
It was a group action. Also seems wrong their insurance only covered them for half. And if anyone wants to tell me in 20 words or less, why their case was not upheld (knowing what we know about hacking from Coogan, Grant etc all) please let me know. I know suspicions does not equate to evidence, but does the judgement fstate it believes the paper got its info legally?

Edited

There's a separate thread about the legal case, so I don't want to go off topic here.

But afaik the costs will not be divided equally. Each claimant will have to pay in proportion to the court time involved in their particular case. That would suggest Harry will have more to pay than the other claimants.

The claimants are jointly and severally liable plus costs are c£50m.

Justdancevance · 20/08/2026 17:24

I’m sure in Meghan’s mind or Meghamind, she thinks once Harry and the kids are settled in the UK she can return to their international base in the US and turn everything around as Harry was holding her back.

The next jam will be the one to turn it around and she might try to get Netflix to greenlight a Sussex London adventure reality show where she gasps in homophobic horror when Camilla says she’s gaping for a fag.

But of those this will come to nothing as she’s just useless.

Good try.

Justdancevance · 20/08/2026 17:26

Some claimants might have wanted to drop out but were convinced to stay to make the overall case stronger. The person making those promises might be liable for a tranche of later costs and court costs

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/08/2026 17:28

What do we call the upcoming return to Salty Isle? Failure Flight?

Brilliant, @IcedPurple Grin Grin

I still have a small silly hope that this is more manifesting from H&M and isn't actually going to happen, but that's looking increasingly unlikely

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/08/2026 17:29

And it remains to be seen if the judge is feeling particularly strongly that Harry's press release after the verdict should have any impact on his costs ruling. H is such a moron. I mean, you don't level an accusation of corruption at the man who will be deciding in a couple of weeks what level of costs you are liable for, if you have even two brain cells to rub together.

Genuine question. Have not followed it. No time today at least 😉 to read 6 threads when surely someone here can sum it up. Someone has explained it gets shared proportionally. That makes sense.
If he is on the hook for much of it, who advised him, how did it get so far, how can the press's costs have been run up so far/in excess, unless trying to extend the case so the complainants backed down/ran out of cash or bottled it and absolutely it would explain why they may have to sell up in Cali...

This makes no sense. What “work” is it that needs to be done that the Sussexes are needed to “pick up the slack” on. Has the workload somehow multiplied exponentially? How can it be that the Royal Family are at the same time superfluous to requirements and yet massively overloaded with work to the point of needing reinforcements? The contortions of trying to make a case for they Sussexes to be working royals are quite remarkable 😆

Maybe ask on the thread which is specifically about the legal case?

Paunchyy · 20/08/2026 17:37

BigWillyLittleTodger · 20/08/2026 16:26

I don’t think a separation is imminent at all, I think this is a bulldozing attempt to get their half in half out deal, what I predict will happen is they will arrive in September and both Harry and Meghan will visit Well Child as their first “royal” visit, these “royal” visits will gather pace over the following months, the children will be introduced to public life, first day at school pictures etc. they are setting up their own court and will do absolutely everything to overshadow the RF, we know the BBC will be fawning over every ribbon they cut when actual working royals don’t even get a mention. I don’t believe either that KC knew nothing about this, he will have been involved and I think it’s his way of manipulating William that they need to be back in the fold as full time royals so they are under some form of control. I also don’t believe KC is close to the end of his life, I think his cancer is one that he will live with until the end of his natural life, I suspect he will be around for ten plus years yet.

I respectfully disagree. MM has had these opportunities to accompany her DH numerous times a year over the last 6 years and she chose not to. Most recently just over a month ago they announced she would be accompanying him on public and private engagements throughout a whole week in July. Then ANL announced and then she flounced as she would not be part of his shit storm.

She then said she was humiliated and sidelined at the 45min meeting at Highgrove - there is no way anyone who is so distraught to behave like this and recall these feelings only weeks ago is actively moving to the UK. She will settle the kids in school and dump her husband and fly off back to the sun.

There is no need for MM to have to be in Portugal or US “to lead her businesses from their international residences” in this digital world - and zero reason to announce this as part of their move. Who would question a few business trips? Such a bizarre thing to announce. It’s a preemptive excuse for her never been seen in the UK. This is a separation.

KimWexlersPonyTail · 20/08/2026 17:38

Someone on another thread mentioned that H would now be liable for US tax as he has been there 6 years. I wonder if this flitting about between 'international bases' is about tax liabilities
? I bet they remain in the UK for term time and sod off abroad in the school hols. Would that affect their tax? I know sod all about tax as you can tell.

AtIusvue · 20/08/2026 17:38

Even the pro Harry n Meg thread on MN are reaching to make sense of this.

Interestingly, even they’ve picked up on and commented on that Meg won’t be full time in the UK but Harry and the kids will…….

To avoid derailing this thread, the sixth thread about the ANL case is linked below.

The OP has a link to both the full judgement and a summary of the judgement.

Briefly, in a civil case the claimants need to prove their case; they were unable to do so in any of the cases brought.

Re costs: each claimant will need to pay individual costs to ANL; they will also need to pay whatever Judge Nicklin orders for common costs, for which they will be jointly and severally liable; this means that any one of them can be pursued for the full amount.

I also know sod all about tax, but Tom Sykes seems to think that's an issue - I quoted this somewhere earlier from him:

According to experts in the field, the calendar of their departure and return is, from a U.K. tax perspective, pretty much perfect, if the goal was to minimize tax liabilities.

Thanks for sharing, good piece. Interesting that Harry's motivation for this is once again linked to jealousy of his brother and the Wales children: he wants his children to have the education and the close family that his niece and nephews do. You'd think that might have occurred to him six years ago...

William has to hold his nerve, it seems to me. Lots of people are looking to paint him as the mean and grudging one now, even though I'd say he has more than adequate reason to be distant with Harry. He should keep doing what he's doing, look unruffled about what HAM are about, and say polite but non committal things if asked about it all. It's the Napoleon quote about 'never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake''.

Briefly the claimants are jointly and severally liable so those that can pay more may need to. It will also be based on costs per individual claimants case I.e. some needed more legal time than others.

ANL refused to settle I.e. they wouldn’t pay a penny so the claimants ended up having to see what they started through to the bitter end.

Reason they lost - did not present any evidence. Believed their circle didn't leak. Relied on a statement that was rescinded in 2023.

They are on the hook for ANL's awarded costs - plus their own costs. Overall costs were about £50 million

Lunde · 20/08/2026 18:16

I think this move may be tough move for the kids.

Archie in particular may find it tough coming from 1st grade in a Californian school to be catapulted into year 3 at a competitive prep school.

I really can’t see them having Royal roles. KC may be sentimental but he is not stupid . Nor are the MIGS .

Yet KC expects us to believe that this decision has come completely out of the blue on Sunday? That he and the MIGS had absolutely no idea that they’d be rocking up, accommodation, schooling etc all sorted in just like that?
I can’t imagine what W and C feel, it must be a real kick in the teeth, it clearly feels like the Prodigal Son returns and that H is the favourite son to me.
After every thing this awful pair have done and said it’s’Welcome home’
What a farce the last 6 years have been,
I presume this was the plan all along.

That’s why I said “if” ! The palace may well go into a full scale pro-Sussex spin now. Remember how hated Camila was, and Charles after Diana’s death. And no, it wasn’t all “good works for charity”, it was positive story after positive story planted, effort to suck up to journalists until they wrote nice articles. It wouldn’t be quick to rehabilitate Harry’s reputation, but it would be possible.

I wouldn't say Camilla is particularly loved, I'd say the public tolerate her more than anything.

33% say shouldn’t

The most interesting suggestion in that Times article was that it may be a tie in with another Netflix special. H&M take the UK, or similar. Which makes an awful lot of sense.
