Demographic(s) which determinedly support H&M no matter what

I am bewildered that anyone can support H&M in light of all their shenanigans.

There is no need to base an opinion on what others write about them, these two show who they are with their own words and actions.

Who are the determined supporters and why would anyone close their eyes to the (inconvenient) truth to continue to fit a preferred narrative?

It reminds me of other scenarios where fans of celebrity figures insist their idol is wonderful despite all evidence to the contrary.

Is it sex, age, race, location? Is it an inability to change their mind after an initially favourable judgement was made?

I wonder what it is that unites die hard H&M supporters?

What exactly is so bewildering about people having different opinions and seeing the same events differently? And what exactly are you calling “support”? Agreeing with everything H&M say and do? Liking them? Defending them? Or simply not agreeing with your interpretation of their words and actions?

You ask who these “determined supporters” are, while seemingly having no idea who they actually are. What makes someone a supporter in your eyes? What criteria are you using? And how can you know they are “closing their eyes” to the truth or trying to fit a “preferred narrative”? You’re assuming their motives rather than knowing them.

Then we get to sex, age, race and location. What on earth do demographics have to do with it? People can simply have different opinions. Two people can look at exactly the same words and actions and reach completely different conclusions. That doesn't mean one is incapable of changing their mind or deliberately ignoring some “inconvenient truth”.

And finally, “what unites die-hard H&M supporters?” How would you know there is anything that unites them? You’ve already grouped people together simply because they don't share your opinion.

Different opinions don't require a common explanation.

@LifeIsTooShort247

Yes, there are different degrees of liking/disliking H & M. Some people haven't looked beneath the surface of glam American lady marries Prince and the RF have been mean.

I hesitate to suggest it because it's a pretty disturbing read, but if you look on the American gossip site, Celebitchy, at what's said there about Meghan and Harry and the RF, you'll get an idea of how bizarre some of their fan base is. The editor, Kaiser, loathes the RF (and the British nation!) and she and the posters hate Catherine and William with a vengeance. They have totally swallowed M and H's allegations (and then added their own imagined ones) despite most of them being long-ago debunked; They believe:

  • Catherine is a vicious racist and so are her family
  • She hated Meghan from the get-go and set out to destroy her
  • She never had cancer
  • William beats Catherine up and she was blue-lighted to hospital a couple of years ago and this has been covered up. This is proved by the small scar on C's temple which they scrutinise microscopically
  • William is violent and the couple's marriage is a sham. William has been having an long affair (won't name the woman involved - it's all rubbish) and also gets regularly buggered by this woman's husband
And so much more I won't bore pps with. Oddly, they also believe that the late Queen liked Meghan and saw her worth and it was only jealous W and C who spoiled things.

Also - Meghan is a lovely person who has never had a cross word with any employee (all allegations on both sides of the Atlantic are malicious). She is full of love and care for others and she and Harry are Love's Young Dream. Yes - young.

It's a poisonous site and upsetting to read. To be clear - if people were saying some of those things about Meghan (much as I don't like her) I'd be upset too - they comments about C's appearance and health go beyond what is decent.

They are mostly American, very much anti-British and refer to the UK as Salty Island. They are open and even boastful about their hatred of the UK.

What have they actually done that is so outrageous? I am bewildered by the vitriol that is poured on them. They are no more parasitic than the rest of the family. What have they done is so abhorrent?

BemusedAmerican · 17/08/2026 14:17

Disaster tourism after the LA fires. African Parks. Sentebale. The Pat Tillman awards. The aviation award. Bullying allegations in the US and UK. The ANL law suit - read what the reporters on trial had to say. Merching clothes online that were worn to Bondi Beach. Spare.

BemusedAmerican · 17/08/2026 14:18

The cloud around Harry's visa.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 17/08/2026 14:31

I wondered about the American factor, although in more recent times the US press seem much less enchanted with the pair of them.
I think it is relevant to query demographics.

As for what have they done which is so abhorrent, well for me the stand out moments have been:

Making accusations of racism which were too vague to answer thus knowingly smearing the reputations of family members forever.

Invading the privacy of your family and others with the most intimate details for your own profit.

Speculating on tv about your father's death when he has cancer. This was a killer for me given I have stage 4 cancer myself and can understand how hurtful and shocking this was.

Ignoring a bereaved mother who is trying to tell you her desperately sad story in favour of playing to the cameras.

This is not to mention numerous other issues and the enormous gap between self righteous speeches on how others should behave whilst doing whatever you like yourself, innumerable provable lies, monetising the monarchy and generally being all round hypocrites.

I detest them continuing to use and abuse royal titles to flog tat and to carry out faux royal tours as if they represent our country.

Is that enough?

I agree with OP - I don't think the thread is about justifying or otherwise people's feelings about Harry and Meghan - that's ancient history and if you genuinely don't know why some people strongly dislike them I suggest doing a bit of research! It's all out there - although I understand Oprah has taken down that notorious interview, allegedly because she was embarrassed to find that most of what was said in it was later very easily shown to be er...shall we be generous and say...misunderstandings and 'mistakes' by H & M.

Am I right, OP - in thinking that this is about who their fanbase consists of and perhaps the reasons for that? It's an interesting subject.

I'd be interested to know of people who've changed their opinions over time. My first reaction on hearing that a mixed-race woman was joining the RF was enthusiasm. But when I saw Meghan i got bad vibes - she seemed so Hollywood and (I now think) 'fake', and obviously fiesty, that I had my doubts about the way she'd fit into the gilded cage of the RF with all its archaic rules.

Since that time I've just become first disappointed, then disgusted and now bored and eye-rolly about H & M's behaviour.

TrugFullofLove · 17/08/2026 15:04

I imagine the greatest cohort don't give a monkeys about them.

shockthemonkey · 17/08/2026 15:06

"I wonder what it is that unites die hard H&M supporters?"

Their die-hard support of H&M, at a guess!

Honestly, I don't think they can be brought together by any other metric. It's not age, race, sex, country of origin, views on royalty, socio-economic standing...

I've checked with most of my friends. Their attitudes range from indifference mixed with amusement, to critical. Among the most critical are my Ugandan friend, my Kenyan friend, my African-American friend, and a couple I know in London who are both second-generation Jamaican. They are annoyed at this blatant playing of the race card, for understandable reasons.

If I'm being really honest, when it comes to the crazier fan-base that @CoffeeCantata talks about upthread, if I had to describe them as a group I'd say they don't seem to have balanced minds, and their capacity for critical thinking does seem to be quite low. Maybe that's what unites them?

I exclude PPs like @LifeIsTooShort247 from this category, by the way! She may not see HaM's words and actions as deliberate lies, shit-stirring and hypocrisy, but she doesn't tear into HaM's critics on here, as far as I can see, doesn't talk about "racist Britain", and probably does not buy into the lies that have been spread online about C&W.

I often think that people won’t be happy until they’ve bullied her to suicide. Good on them both for getting away from the absolute hatred they get.

Like them or don’t, I really don’t understand why people get so irate over it online, it’s like they think they know them 🤷‍♀️

HappiestSleeping · 17/08/2026 15:10

No different to people who think Trump is excellent, or Farage. People base opinions on all sorts of information or disinformation.

H&M don't feature on my radar really, and neither do the people that like / dislike them. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

There are still people who think the earth is flat, and we all know that can't be true or cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

mugglewump · 17/08/2026 15:10

Probably the people who don't really like the royal family and their 'machine' who caused the death of Diana and forced H and M out of the country.

Agree, I am ambivalent to them but wouldn’t put them in the same category as Fred West etc.

I really don’t understand why people spend hours criticising them, it’s weird. I also think it’s weird to spend hours praising them, but you don’t see that on MNs! 😆

DontSayItsOver · 17/08/2026 15:15

Maybe anyone old enough to remember how the press treated Diana for dating Dodi, pretended they loved her all along after she died, and are now doing the exact same thing with her son and daughter in law.

And the idiots are eating it up all over again.

AImportantMermaid · 17/08/2026 15:17

You’re spending too much time thinking about people who have absolutely no impact on your life.

Yeah they are definitely treating him like his mum.

We torture people online and in the news and we wonder why people commit suicide. The one that did irritate me was when she was open about her miscarriage (which I think is helpful for other people going through it as it shows you aren’t alone) but then was ripped apart by people for ‘looking for attention’ ffs.

It is honestly bizarre how much people care.

lovingthebeachlife · 17/08/2026 15:19

its like they know them I do think many have that weird relationship with the RF and think they do know them. I think some feel personally affronted & rejected that Harry walked away & its Ms fault.

Omg yes! Cats are actually proof that the earth is not flat, I’ve never ever thought of it like that.

love it!

MadeInGrimsby · 17/08/2026 15:25

I don't mind them, I think they're a bit daft though, and courting publicity never ends well.
I suspect their fans are hardline royalists who would bow and curtsey to them just because they're royal. H&M are determined to remain royal and live that way, I think it would be healthier to leave all that behind, but I suppose it's the ultimate status, isn't it?.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 17/08/2026 15:33

@CoffeeCantata yes, that is exactly my question.
Is there any group of people which is more likely to be fans of H&M?

OP posts:
MadeInGrimsby · 17/08/2026 15:39

I suppose there are also those hardcore Diana fans. The ones who think she was murdered and think H&M are doing her work or somesuch. There's still a strong feeling amongst some, even now.

There’s no need to try to guess - for the past few years critics of the Sussexes have explained very clearly and articulately on here their reasons. Do we really need to go through it all yet again? Surely not.

OP is asking about the specific demographic of their die-hard fans - just who are the ppeople who, whatever H& M do, seem to give them a free pass and who take them and their speeches seriously. I think it’s called cognitive dissonance?

MeNotYouJustMe · 17/08/2026 15:43

Is it any more weird than being diehard fans of the RF? That always baffles me. The whole concept is an anachronistic nonsense and the individuals in the RF are largely lazy and grabby yet they still have diehard fans who turn out in all weathers to fawn over them. Weird 🤷‍♀️

It's the same. It's all about the titles.

OliveMyLove · 17/08/2026 15:47

A guess: women who do not feel social rules, norms and expectations are so strictly necessary or fair. Nor that people should be judged for doing things differently than others. Also, people who are highly empathetic toward outsiders and forgiving of them, even to the point of having a different standard for them than for others. Lastly, when they decide they like someone they tend to remain ever loyal.

There are plenty around here so maybe someone will tell me if that fits their own sense of themselves.
