Demographic(s) which determinedly support H&M no matter what

I am bewildered that anyone can support H&M in light of all their shenanigans.

There is no need to base an opinion on what others write about them, these two show who they are with their own words and actions.

Who are the determined supporters and why would anyone close their eyes to the (inconvenient) truth to continue to fit a preferred narrative?

It reminds me of other scenarios where fans of celebrity figures insist their idol is wonderful despite all evidence to the contrary.

Is it sex, age, race, location? Is it an inability to change their mind after an initially favourable judgement was made?

I wonder what it is that unites die hard H&M supporters?

There’s no need to try to guess - for the past few years critics of the Sussexes have explained very clearly and articulately on here their reasons. Do we really need to go through it all yet again? Surely not

OP is asking about the specific demographic of their die-hard fans - just who are the ppeople who, whatever H& M do, seem to give them a free pass and who take them and their speeches seriously. I think it’s called cognitive dissonance?

I don’t think you can put their “fans” into a box, they will span different backgrounds & beliefs & many are unlikely to even listen to their speeches, there are different levels of fandom.

The only person I know who is a real fan of H&M is a 60 something Bajan lady who was also a fan of the Queen, Diana but dislikes Charles. I don’t think she follows them on social media or listens to their speeches though!

I agree with you on this, I find murderer, pedophiles, serial killers etc. abhorrent. Wouldn't have a good word to say about them.

Otherwise most people are not perfect, nor are they either evil or saints. Some things people do might not be what others agree with but other things they do agree with. Doesn't make you a fan or a hater just what you choose to focus on.

Personally and in general the whole cancel culture, media pile ons on celebrity, the days of paparazzi and the social media trolling just really made me just prefer to talk about good things, because there is always so much negativity pushed out there.

I think you’d avoid H&M at all costs if you prefer to only focus on positive things.

Exactly the same - and even weirder is that royalists seem to think they have the moral high ground by fawning over one branch of the family and sneering at those who follow another branch. Honestly the whole thing is utterly baffling 😀

The elephant in the room is The Sussex Squad, if we’re talking about really die-hard fans. Yes, there are shades of fandom from them down to bored neutrality.

I mentioned Celebitchy upthread, which is an American site, and from what I read, the H & M fans on there happily self-identify as SS or Squaddies.

I’ve read some stuff on there! You would want to bleach your eyeballs. Their attitude is a super-aggressive (or maybe defensive)reaction to even the mildest criticism of their idols.

A while back there was a minor issue where a very small business was damaged in some way by As Ever and the owner dared to protest (it was the jam or something). The Squaddies on Celebitchy went absolutely crazy with threats and curses against this poor, innocent woman. It was clear that they weren’t Interested in the actual facts or details of the case - just the fact that someone had publicly criticised Meghan was enough to launch a with hunt.

But you’re lumping “royalists” together too. There’s just as much of a spectrum their as with Sussex fans.

When I say positive, in the context of I don't like to talk badly about people on things that to me aren't something worth being negative or critical about such as why do I need to be negative about her Netflix show, her appearance on Masterchef Australia, her selling some products, her desire to earn an income, or why her show has been nominated for an Emmy? I don't think there is anything bad about any of that. I don't share the same opinion on her volunteering to help during the LA fires being disaster tourism, when lots of other famous people were too, whether it was photographed and publicised or not isn't something that bothers me. I don't have a problem with what she posts on her Instagram either, her account, her life to share as she wishes too.

I also don't see a reason to be negative about what she wears, its her body her choice, what she wears isn't hurting anyone.

End of the day I don't know her, don't spend time with her have no real knowledge of her actual life so I choose not to speculate or gossip about it and same goes about anyone not just famous people. I don't find it fun or entertaining. 💁‍♀️

Surely the Royalists are the supporters of H&M? Although I think they fall into the subset category of Diana fans as well.

I’ve always supported them and will continue to do so; they left this salty island many years ago. Put them out of your thoughts.

They talk badly about people, so it’s confusing to say you don’t like that sort of thing but then want to talk positively about them.

Why not just ignore them altogether?

If you want to be super meta, you could start finding positive things to say about people that criticize them. They are tenacious, at least.

Really? I thought the Royal board was very pro the Royals, admittedly I don’t really read there. I just assumed this site was fairly pro Royal because it skews older (dons hard hat).

If other people want to speak badly crack on thats their mindset, perspective and their choice to put out into the world. I am sure those people have good things about them too but I don't know them so I can't comment on what they are only what I see. As I said noine is perfect and majority of people do good and not so good things and I prefer not to judge someone on just the good or just the bad. With the exception of murderers etc.

But is this any different to the Beyhive or Swifties (are they called that?) There has always been die hard fans for people in the public eye. I remember some of my friends were devastated about Take That & cried for day. I liked them but wasn’t particularly bothered.

I think it’s mostly Republicans and people who are annoyed / enjoy marveling over the antics of these two. Supportive of the monarchy, perhaps but it’s hardly about that, in my opinion.

People call non supporters of H&M “Royalists” mainly to grate or diminish their opinions.

As I said I find the whole thing very odd, in real life I think most of us can see good & bad in famous people, as pp said no one is perfect. But on here any thread seems to descend into an argument and posters must be one side or the other.

Whats your opinion on Prince Andrew OP? Surely he's done much worse than H& M but gets it a lot easier than them. I think the real reason people dislike H& M so much is because you think they turned their backs.

You’d need to define the term. I’m a constitutional monarchist but don’t take much personal interest in the individual RF members. I’d be happy with a Scandinavian-style low-key arrangement and I think that’#’s what we’ll get eventually.

There are people who line up to see them leave church at Sandringham too, or perhaps collect memorabilia.

i agree with you that few on MN would identify as royalists (but definition please!) just as few would dare to identify as Tories - there’s a prevailing culture which would deter them.

From what I can see there is a good reason this happens.

Try to view it like two rival football clubs and it will make more sense.

I think of a Royalist as someone who owns multiple tea sets with images of the Royal family on each piece. 😁
