Demographic(s) which determinedly support H&M no matter what

I am bewildered that anyone can support H&M in light of all their shenanigans.

There is no need to base an opinion on what others write about them, these two show who they are with their own words and actions.

Who are the determined supporters and why would anyone close their eyes to the (inconvenient) truth to continue to fit a preferred narrative?

It reminds me of other scenarios where fans of celebrity figures insist their idol is wonderful despite all evidence to the contrary.

Is it sex, age, race, location? Is it an inability to change their mind after an initially favourable judgement was made?

I wonder what it is that unites die hard H&M supporters?

Meghan was alone with Oprah at that part of the interview, and I've read that it's quite possible that Harry didn't even know she was going to say what she said.

It wasn't a live interview, so he could easily have arranged for that portion to be edited to clarify the issue if he wanted.

Instead, he allowed the allegation to remain out there, until he denied it in the interview with Tom Bradby in January 2023, a month after he accepted the Kennedy Ripple of Hope award for standing up to 'structural racism' in the Royal Family.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 17/08/2026 19:16

Back to the original question I think there are various reasons

”Republicans” who for some strange reason think Harry and Meghan will bring down the monarchy yet they can’t seem to square the circle that the Duke and Duchess and their Prince and Princess children certainly don’t want to bring it down, Harry and Meghan are very royal indeed, if the Wales family were wiped out they would both be on the first private jet to claim the throne.

There is a certain demographic for whom that Meghan appeals, they see Meghan as a beacon of hope, if she can make it as a Duchess maybe I can as well, so she is their poster girl.

Some people who like and defend them don’t actually know much about them and what has happened over the years and see them as victims driven out of the racist royal family fleeing for their lives! for example it’s taken as gospel they wanted to leave the royal family when their statement said they very much wanted to remain, they just wanted to use their titles commercially at the same time as “collaborating with The Queen” .

Diana superfans who seem to forget she had more than one son.

There are probably more……

Do you have examples from MSM ?
Social Media can be a cesspit for example look at the abuse JK Rowling receives but MSM ?

And examples of the general public being racist towards Meghan?

Pallisers · 17/08/2026 19:22

The only reason they have any notice taken of them is because people - including those who dislike them - keep talking about them.

When I see people talking about their "supporters" I wonder do people expect an army to be raised in York and marched south to london- like we are still living in the wars of the roses or tudor times. it is all pretty ridiculous.

lovingthebeachlife · 17/08/2026 19:41

@CoffeeCantataI think the race thing comes in some part because of perceptions, if that’s the right word. Lots of people here see Americans as brash, ignorant etc you see it on MNs all the time. I think many Americans see the English upper classes in particular as stuck up, classist, racist etc.

I haven't RTFT but while acknowledging appalling behaviour from the Harolds I wonder why the rest get a lighter pass.

I don’t think they do. There’s lots of ant-RF posts on MN alone but the specific question here is about the demographic of Sussex supporters.

AMW was comprehensively slaughtered on here and rightly so not so long ago, but he’s not the topic of the OP.

Yes - the racism allegations played into lots of different prejudices and stereotypes. I’ve read a lot about the allegations and I do think that Meghan (not necessarily Harry) knew exactly which buttons she was pressing, particularly in the US.

CoffeeCantata · 17/08/2026 22:11

Meant to add: let’s remember that Harry totally retracted the racism allegations later - claiming that they never said the RF was racist. The whole thing was just ridiculous, but did huge damage at the time and Catherine in particular is still labelled a racist in some quarters despite this retraction. Totally illogical but people believe what fits their existing narrative.

TheLarkAscendingRose · 17/08/2026 22:35

CoffeeCantata · 17/08/2026 13:06

@LifeIsTooShort247

Yes, there are different degrees of liking/disliking H & M. Some people haven't looked beneath the surface of glam American lady marries Prince and the RF have been mean.

I hesitate to suggest it because it's a pretty disturbing read, but if you look on the American gossip site, Celebitchy, at what's said there about Meghan and Harry and the RF, you'll get an idea of how bizarre some of their fan base is. The editor, Kaiser, loathes the RF (and the British nation!) and she and the posters hate Catherine and William with a vengeance. They have totally swallowed M and H's allegations (and then added their own imagined ones) despite most of them being long-ago debunked; They believe:

  • Catherine is a vicious racist and so are her family
  • She hated Meghan from the get-go and set out to destroy her
  • She never had cancer
  • William beats Catherine up and she was blue-lighted to hospital a couple of years ago and this has been covered up. This is proved by the small scar on C's temple which they scrutinise microscopically
  • William is violent and the couple's marriage is a sham. William has been having an long affair (won't name the woman involved - it's all rubbish) and also gets regularly buggered by this woman's husband
And so much more I won't bore pps with. Oddly, they also believe that the late Queen liked Meghan and saw her worth and it was only jealous W and C who spoiled things.

Also - Meghan is a lovely person who has never had a cross word with any employee (all allegations on both sides of the Atlantic are malicious). She is full of love and care for others and she and Harry are Love's Young Dream. Yes - young.

It's a poisonous site and upsetting to read. To be clear - if people were saying some of those things about Meghan (much as I don't like her) I'd be upset too - they comments about C's appearance and health go beyond what is decent.

They are mostly American, very much anti-British and refer to the UK as Salty Island. They are open and even boastful about their hatred of the UK.

Xenophobes often are proud of it. That's nothing new. They sounds like mentally unwell xenophobes though. They
loathe the RF, yet are that obsessed with it? Yikes! I hope they are able to access the help they clearly need.

This racism / unconscious bias nonsense really makes Harry look stupid … and it irks me that the idiot interviewer didn’t pull him up on this (no doubt agreed in advance). All that and they ‘accepted’ (paid for a plastic gold painted award) for their work with racism … fucking priceless contradictory / flim flam bat-shittery 🤡🤡

Racism lessons from a racist is never easy to take.

TreCalziniBelante · 18/08/2026 00:39

I’d have thought more of the unconscious bias nonsense if she had said it. She has more reason to dismiss or deny the accusations they made. She certainly had 43% more reason to explain why they said it and why there were now trying to backtrack.

But no. The husband who has form for derogatory racist terms said it. If - and it is a big if - anything was said, he had no business minimising it because he got the big frighties at the backlash.

I am still very much of the opinion that they backtracked because they let a vague and nasty allegation (lie) get out of control and they couldn’t put the lid back on the box.

Still, they got a pretty trophy for their mantelpiece out of it.

i also am of the opinion that their most fervent supporters are in balls deep and they can’t back away because they know they look daft. And so they keep doubling down.

You only have to look at how the MSM treated Jason Arday to see how racism is pervasive in the media.

Headlines about MM such as "Straight out of Compton" are pretty racist.

But if you don't want to take my word for it, the Press Gazette carried out a survey of member journalists and half of them said they considered MSM to display racism towards MM

@CoffeeCantata yes, that is exactly my question.
Is there any group of people which is more likely to be fans of H&M?

Non-racists?

I can’t fathom why you know so much about people you loathe. It’s perfectly easy to avoid almost all news about them. Why not do so?

I’m not a fan or a non-fan. I don’t know enough about them. As I say - you only know a lot about their activities If you seek it out, and I really really struggle to understand why anyone would do so when you don’t like them. It is deranged behaviour, stop.

Oh good grief!

Surely you aren’t saying that anybody who is critical of H&M is a racist?

That would be nonsensical.

As for not being aware of their activities unless I was to seek them out they actively court attention all the time with television “interviews” (puff pieces and monologues) , their own pet PR press articles, M’s social media, H’s biography, their joint Netflix series and then M’s own Netflix series.

I would have to live in absolute seclusion to avoid their constant attention seeking and why wouldn’t I have an opinion given their ongoing attempts to interfere with the monarchy, the press and the law of my country?

OP posts:
simpsonthecat · 18/08/2026 09:36

I agree @Clonakilla . I don't see much, if anything, about them unless I look on here or actively go and look elsewhere.
I do get fed up with the Mirror who seems beyond obsessed with them and does endless made up headlines about them, and for some reason or other it comes up on my FB feed and no, whatever anyone says, I never click on it. I repeatedly delete the article.
Apart from that, I see very little about them so I imagine posters seek them out so they can start yet another thread about them. You can actively avoid them if you actually want to.

Laundrybasketfull · 18/08/2026 09:58

I don't mind them, I do think parts of the press are totally unhinged about them though. I do remember speaking to someone about MM children and he was convinced they were surrogate based on 'evidence' from the internet.

TreCalziniBelante · 18/08/2026 09:59

Anna

Racist headlines such as “Straight out of Compton” are pretty racist?

As far as I recall, that was the only headline. I wonder what the others were given that you’ve said it was headlines.

There is no such thing as pretty racist by the way. it is either racist or it is not. Ask me how I know…

And as for journalists declaring the coverage was racist? If they were only looking at that headline? I can see it. As a whole? No.

I’d like to see the examples before people are branded as racist for their articles. Specifically racist. Not just critical. The two very much seem to be getting muddled.

H&M were of the opinion that people in the UK were racist too. That sweeping judgement was insulting to the majority who are not.

They also accused the RF of it and then retracted it.

H&M did so much damage with their spurious cries of racism. They did not consider the bigger impact of it. Genuine instances of racism were dismissed as unconscious bias and minimised because of it.

Again. Ask me how I know.

OliveMyLove · 18/08/2026 10:00

They have a WhatsApp group to leak info from “sources close to the Sussexes”. Of course they show up regularly without anyone seeking them out.

TreCalziniBelante · 18/08/2026 10:12

And as for non racists being the fans of H&M?

Was that from the Sussex School of sweeping statements too?

Quite a bit of white savior mentality, actually.

OK but are you angry with them for letting you down- not wanting to be part of the Royal family any longer?

Oh yes - I see what you mean.

It's all horrible (SS and this) and I think it's been created by social media. People go crazy!

I honestly think that's 90% of it. Once (when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I was young) you just liked your pop/film star idol and cut out posters of them to stick on your bedroom wall.

Now you're all over SM and form gangs with other fans and behave as though war has been declared if someone else on SM criticises your idol.

It's really unhealthy. Of course, with Meghan you have the added dynamite ingredient of racism, which she herself has done a lot to stir up. You get a lot of posts on such as Celebitchy which say things like 'do not dare to criticise a mixed race woman!' as if that's written in the Gospels. But it makes the nature of their fan appeal much more divided and nasty. If you criticise Meghan, you must be a racist - we used to get that on here all the time.

But I think social media is the major factor in this horrible trend for armies of angry, aggressive, intolerant fans.

TreCalziniBelante · 18/08/2026 10:50

For me?

I think plenty of people wished them well when they left. I did.

It was the behaviour afterwards - Spare, Oprah, NF and Lilibet that soured my opinion. The lies. The digs.

For people who had such dreadful things to say (or sneakily allude to) about their experience of the RF, they are gripping on to the RF connection tighter and tighter.

Him I can understand as he had a lifetime of it. I struggle with her.

Call me Sir? Call me ma’am?

Call me desperate. Call me hypocritical.
Don't call me royal (but do! Please do!)

What I dislike most of all is the social media saviours they make themselves to be but they did nothing when the RF were called racists and suffered that particular witch hunt and nothing when the people who supported them attacked Catherine during her cancer treatment.

Nothing.
