Demographic(s) which determinedly support H&M no matter what

I am bewildered that anyone can support H&M in light of all their shenanigans.

There is no need to base an opinion on what others write about them, these two show who they are with their own words and actions.

Who are the determined supporters and why would anyone close their eyes to the (inconvenient) truth to continue to fit a preferred narrative?

It reminds me of other scenarios where fans of celebrity figures insist their idol is wonderful despite all evidence to the contrary.

Is it sex, age, race, location? Is it an inability to change their mind after an initially favourable judgement was made?

I wonder what it is that unites die hard H&M supporters?

The same reason there has to be football. It’s a pastime and a distraction from real life.

So is that why people like the rivalry? It’s panto? A distraction from real life as you say? I confess I still don’t get it.

Whats your opinion on Prince Andrew OP? Surely he's done much worse than H& M but gets it a lot easier than them. I think the real reason people dislike H& M so much is because you think they turned their backs.

Edited

My opinion is that this thread isn’t about him. We have had plenty that are so I won’t accept your derail.

They seem mildly irritating and tone death.
I am bewildered that so many people actively dislike them when there are so many people in the world who have done actual evil things.

The elephant in the room is The Sussex Squad, if we’re talking about really die-hard fans. Yes, there are shades of fandom from them down to bored neutrality.

I mentioned Celebitchy upthread, which is an American site, and from what I read, the H & M fans on there happily self-identify as SS or Squaddies.

I’ve read some stuff on there! You would want to bleach your eyeballs. Their attitude is a super-aggressive (or maybe defensive)reaction to even the mildest criticism of their idols.

A while back there was a minor issue where a very small business was damaged in some way by As Ever and the owner dared to protest (it was the jam or something). The Squaddies on Celebitchy went absolutely crazy with threats and curses against this poor, innocent woman. It was clear that they weren’t Interested in the actual facts or details of the case - just the fact that someone had publicly criticised Meghan was enough to launch a with hunt.

I wonder how much the SS are paid for their 'opinions' and by whom? My thoughts would need a very small postcard!

I understand Oprah has taken down that notorious interview, allegedly because she was embarrassed to find that most of what was said in it was later very easily shown to be er...shall we be generous and say...misunderstandings and 'mistakes' by H & M.

Obviously I didn't watch her performance ofnOW but I've seen snippets and Markle's sense of timing showed her acting training, the little pauses, the lowered voice etc etc, it should have been up for an award. However what really shocked me most was OW's reactions, her feigned horror and her total lack of questionning, I know she wanted the ratings etc and is not what she was but any good interviewer would have been all over the blatent lies.

Agreed, it wasn’t an interview at all and came across as very fake on both sides.

Why would fans of H&M have to be paid though? I don’t get it.

3WildOnes · 17/08/2026 17:26

Also the bullying of them has been relentless and completely disproportionate to any mistakes they have made.

lovingthebeachlife · 17/08/2026 17:29

I mean people fan girl and marry bloody serial killers so why would Harry need to pay to have fans? Or is it a specific royal thing?

Define bullying, though.

Do you count expressing an opinion about them secretly briefing the press while publicly blaming the staff at BP for their own leak?

bluegreygreen · 17/08/2026 17:36

any mistakes they have made

You see, this is the issue.

What one person calls a mistake, someone else sees as a falsehood, and I may describe as a deliberate lie.

Edit to add: And when there are multiple, over several years, people notice a pattern.

OliveMyLove · 17/08/2026 17:42

It’s the unwillingness of their supporters to admit they’ve ever put a foot wrong that really keeps the conversation going.

I think of a Royalist as someone who owns multiple tea sets with images of the Royal family on each piece. 😁

😂 I should have called them monarchists then! My apologies 😊

I confess I don’t know anything about those fan groups but the SS are extreme. I don’t just mean obsessed and keen - it’s a matter of record that their activities have been near-criminal at times, harrrassing people and conducting SM campaigns to destroy them.

The SS aren’t just very adoring fans - they’re organised and threatening.

Yes they have tried to destroy lives, if they were based in this country it wouldn’t surprise me if they faced the full force of the law.

They are most definitely organised and marshalled for particular events. There’s one notorious woman who turns up internationally either to heckle the royals or journalists who have criticised H and M so I assume some must be funded.

I don’t think Oprah thought she would become and International meme and have her journalistic credentials called into question, no wonder she has removed it from the internet, fortunately the transcript remains.

Surely the Royalists are the supporters of H&M? Although I think they fall into the subset category of Diana fans as well.

Well H & M are certainly royalists themselves, ironically enough! They've had their wrists slapped in the US for putting so much emphasis on their titles and expecting royal treatment.

Bullying staff which has been reported on both sides of the Atlantic by many of their staff is deeply unpleasant and has caused great distress, some had to to seek therapy so I would say they are more than mildly irritating if you are on the receiving end of their bullying behaviour.

SadiraOfTyr · 17/08/2026 18:17

My dad likes them. Mostly because he thinks Harry is a ‘decent chap, did his duty in the Army, supports veterans and all that’ and because he (secretly) fancies the arse off Meghan.

Nothing more to it than that. He doesn’t have social media or read celebrity news and he’d probably dismiss it all as ‘tosh’ if he did.

I know OP as asked a specific question about their fanbase, so I'm reluctant to get into yet another they said, the RF said, discussion.

But from long reading of these boards and all the other stuff that's out there that I assume pps are aware of, it does seem that people who like them ignore the cruel, malicious stuff they have both done and ask innocently 'What on earth have they done to deserve criticism?'

They've done some awful things! The betrayal of H's family, breaking of family confidences, accusations of racism against Catherine and Charles - and they're not just anyone - they're people who have to appear on the world stage and meet all kinds of people - so that accusation over something so flimsy was shockingly nasty. And some people swallowed it and still call her a racist. As many people from mixed race families have said, lighthearted musing over what characteristics the child will inherit are normal, and not racist. And Meghan has said on many occasions that she loves her daughter's 'blue, blue eyes'., Hmm. OK. Very much the same kind of thing! Now, if KC had said he loved Lilibet's 'blue, blue eyes' there'd be hell to pay.

And the claim that their children didn't get titles was due to racism, when dimbo Harry had either not understood or not listened when the Letters Patent matter was explained to him. Again, lots of people across the world will have just accepted their bonkers assertion.

And the rest, mentioned upthread.

You have to decide how much all this matters to you as an individual, but it has definitely made me dislike H & M. If anyone said those things about me without good reason I would never forgive them. It's interesting that the 2 victims of their racism accusations developed serious illness a year or so later. Stress is cancer's friend.

“ Call me Harry “ didn’t last long did it ?
Call us Sir and Ma’am according to Invictus Canada .
Titles used at every opportunity- including HRH .
Insistence on A and L being Prince/ Princess.
Very Royal .

Well even I will agree that Meghan is a very attractive woman - physically!

lovingthebeachlife · 17/08/2026 17:29

I think it's the race aspect. Their allegations of racism coincided roughly with the very angry mood in the US at that time - when people were taking the knee etc. Of course the whole issue has very different overtones there and with her being from the US, some Americans - maybe people who'd suffered actual racism themselves - reacted very strongly to things like the OW interview.

It was tragic that these allegations were not treated more seriously during that interview. Oprah SHOULD have responded to Meghan's points not with 'Whaaaat?' in that performative way, but with 'That's a very serious allegation. Can you give me more details?' etc etc. like an actual journalist, and then put the other viewpoint and challenged Meghan.

Meghan was alone with Oprah at that part of the interview, and I've read that it's quite possible that Harry didn't even know she was going to say what she said.

We'll never know.

I can't stand the RF and really couldn't care less about H&M but I do think MM has been the subject of a huge amount of racism within the mainstream media, social media and the general public.

I had to laugh when I saw Meghan's notepaper had a coronet on it! I suppose that's fair enough if you're a royal duchess and want to use that to self promote.

Do you have examples from MSM ?
Social Media can be a cesspit for example look at the abuse JK Rowling receives but MSM ?
