Demographic(s) which determinedly support H&M no matter what

I am bewildered that anyone can support H&M in light of all their shenanigans.

There is no need to base an opinion on what others write about them, these two show who they are with their own words and actions.

Who are the determined supporters and why would anyone close their eyes to the (inconvenient) truth to continue to fit a preferred narrative?

It reminds me of other scenarios where fans of celebrity figures insist their idol is wonderful despite all evidence to the contrary.

Is it sex, age, race, location? Is it an inability to change their mind after an initially favourable judgement was made?

I wonder what it is that unites die hard H&M supporters?

I don't mind them, I do think parts of the press are totally unhinged about them though. I do remember speaking to someone about MM children and he was convinced they were surrogate based on 'evidence' from the internet.

I don't read the tabloid press - and I know that sound snooty, but I'm just explaining why it took me a while to understand all the fuss about racism towards Meghan. I don't believe the RF were racist (could blather on if you like, but let's leave it there for now) and I don't believe the British public were racist. Far, far from it. The RF leapt at the chance to bring in a mixed-race person and the public were excited too - I certainly was and so was everyone I know (I'm white British).

But yes, the way the press behaved was bad. It's a bit like the tragic Jason Arday - I think he was crucified by 2 agencies: the rush to be woke (sorry, awful word, but shorthand) by Cambridge University, and then the nasty backlash from the press. I was on here a week or so ago saying 'people need to be careful here - this could end in tragedy if this man is persecuted any more'. Anyway, that's a different subject, but I'm making the connection because it was the press/media who were guilty of racism, for the most part.

All Meghan and Harry's claims of racism within the RF have been refuted as misunderstandings, and they themselves have even gone back on them - after having accepted a stupid award for 'fighting racism in the RF', or whatever.

Thanks for the reference @AnnaQuayRules.

I do like the Press Gazette, because it usually goes into much more detail than other publications.

Being aware of potential biases is good when looking at polls. For this one, it's a self-selecting group of email subscribers (you don't have to be a journalist - I'm a subscriber) and the poll took place in the same month as the Oprah interview.

The helpful detail on this occasion is further down the page, where the information is split by work sector, and there are some useful comments below the graph.

it's interesting that the only significant example anyone could point to was the 'Compton' headline.

Had there been other robust examples, no doubt they would have been used in the Oprah interview - instead of the section about the racist UK media showing headlines of UK papers altered to make things appear worse, and US and Australian tabloid headlines mis-sold as UK ones.

Oh good grief!

Surely you aren’t saying that anybody who is critical of H&M is a racist?

That would be nonsensical.

As for not being aware of their activities unless I was to seek them out they actively court attention all the time with television “interviews” (puff pieces and monologues) , their own pet PR press articles, M’s social media, H’s biography, their joint Netflix series and then M’s own Netflix series.

I would have to live in absolute seclusion to avoid their constant attention seeking and why wouldn’t I have an opinion given their ongoing attempts to interfere with the monarchy, the press and the law of my country?

Oh please. I don't live in anything like seclusion but the only place I see relentless coverage of H&M is here, with thread after thread after thread of people slagging them off as if they know them personally.

While I'm sure there are obsessive H&M fans, based on this part of mumsnet at least there are way more absolutely rabid, relentless and utterly obsessed detractors.

And before anyone tries to say I'm a member of the Sussex Squad or whatever, all the royal family should be fired and made to get proper jobs. All of them.

😀They do love a meaningless award, don't they?

Especially if they can make a daft speech when accepting!

There are lots of outlets where people rant obsessively and viciously about the RF (sometimes on here!!). There are also places where the Sussexes are elevated to martyr status. MN is not unusual in that way.

I don't get the disingenuous 'Why do people dislike them?' (except the accusation is usually that we hate them) or "Why are people still going on about them?'

It's either disingenuous or...I don't know...ignorant?? to ask those things. They didn't just leave quietly to leave a private life in the US, did they? If they'd done that, we'd all have been sad but wished them well.

Oh no! They began an orchestrated campaign of slander and libel against the RF and in H's case, his closest relations. They called Catherine, once a dear friend of Harry (er...I don't think you need to be a psychologist to realise that that was the problem for Meghan) a racist on the world stage. They called Charles, the future head of state of this country, a racist.

They did horrible interviews, wrote spiteful memoirs which breached other people's privacy hugely and even a Netflix documentary, all of which set out to damage the RF and Harry's family to a shocking degree. And they did it for dollars.

The damage they did is ongoing. That's one reason people are still talking about them. But the other is simply that they won't lie down and live private lives. There's a concern now that they're trying to wheedle their way back into royal life again....God save us from that! That's why they are still talked about.

Harry - go and live on a ranch in Montana with your family and stop seeking publicity. Then I promise I for one will stop talking about you.

TreCalziniBelante · 18/08/2026 11:28

I think it is both. The ones who know that they are talking out of their lower orifice are disingenuous. The ones who follow the disingenuous ones are ignorant.

It is a special kind of daft to yell ‘racist haters’ with no evidence to support it.

But it is surprisingly common on here.

And in the house in Montecito next to the chicken coop.

TreCalziniBelante · 18/08/2026 11:32

“Harry - go and live on a ranch in Montana with your family and stop seeking publicity. Then I promise I for one will stop talking about you”.

As would most.

But the thought that after all they’ve done and yet still want to come back into the RF fold as and when they please?

I feel uncomfortable with that.

Not as uncomfortable as most of the RF I’ll bet.

Chickendinners · 18/08/2026 11:39

CoffeeCantata · 17/08/2026 22:11

Meant to add: let’s remember that Harry totally retracted the racism allegations later - claiming that they never said the RF was racist. The whole thing was just ridiculous, but did huge damage at the time and Catherine in particular is still labelled a racist in some quarters despite this retraction. Totally illogical but people believe what fits their existing narrative.

Did PH retract it or just minimise it? Was his ‘retraction’ before or after Scooby named the racists as Prince Charles and Princess Catherine - or did H&M let that stand?

Goodness - H&M must be absolutely gutted that the years and years of global in house Public Relations teams and rostering of multiple huge Hollywood PR agencies for $$$$$$ is not getting any cut thru at all.

MM must be devastated that her proactive PR programmes around her WHO talk, As Ever, Spotify, NF, numerous guest speaker appearances, magazine interviews, trips to Australia, Colombia, Nigeria, TV interviews, her WLM TV series, her charity efforts for LA fires, Uvalde, IG, Parents Network, etc etc gets zero coverage or cut thru.

TreCalziniBelante · 18/08/2026 11:54

Unfortunately all those carefully planned PR events and programme opportunities were wasted.

Someone forgot to send the memo that you don’t make it all about you.

The shame of it is that there was so much opportunity to show up and do good.

Showing up and making it all about you isn’t the same.

And after you’ve both shown who you are and keep doing so, the opportunities dry up.

Chickendinners · 18/08/2026 11:39

Harry was being pushed in an interview - I remember he was standing up, I think, so I got the impression he wanted it to be over - it wasn't a big production like the OW one. When the interviewer asked him about the allegations he denied they'd ever said the RF were racist. The interviewer pushed him again and he said 'Not racism - unconscious bias'.

Clearly he and Meghan had been taking PR advice as to how they could walk back on their horrible accusations, and Harry had learned the term 'unconscious bias'. I very much doubt he came up with this himself.

But it's all on film, Harry! You can't erase what was said in the OW interview - although, as I said upthread, Oprah has taken it down and I bet the Sussexes too are glad. What was said on that occasion was outrageous and although the first reaction was ' the damage is to the RF', on reflection and with a bit of research, any perceptive and fair-minded person can see that it's not a good look for H & M either. Or Oprah, the mercenary that she is!!

I can't remember when the 'royal racists' were named - can other pps? But I remember that H & M were VERY careful in that interview, and in other things, so emphasise that it wasn't QEII or Prince Philip. That was pure sucking up - they knew they couldn't afford to offend the actual monarch...and H probably expected the then Queen to around longer than she actually was.

Because it's not the 90s-00s anymore where execs can decide who becomes famous by shoving one person down everyone's throats. I think Harry grew up in that era and mistakenly thought they could be world famous like the Beckhams by knowing the right people. There is so much competition these days that a lacklustre effort doesn't mean anyone will choose to consume your content.

The problem is that MM thought they had a brand that worked across every platform but in reality they're competing with the stars from every platform. People didn't watch their Netflix shows because there are way better things on Netflix. Her podcast flopped because there are much better ones on Spotify. All her other projects don't get attention because there is much news and content on social media that most people genuinely don't give a shit about feel good charity fluff that a narcissistic multi-millionaire is doing right now.

CoffeeCantata · 18/08/2026 12:07

What I dislike most of all is the social media saviours they make themselves to be but they did nothing when the RF were called racists and suffered that particular witch hunt and nothing when the people who supported them attacked Catherine during her cancer treatment.
Nothing.

Oh God - I'd forgotten about that. It was disgusting. That 'Where's Kate?' social media campaign, mocking her. I think various Hollywood mates of theirs got involved, and even that pratt Stephen Colbert. And H & M remained resolutely silent, despite all their virtue-signalling about bullying and social media.

The SS were saying that William had beaten Catherine and she was lying in hospital somewhere.

Then Catherine was forced to make that public announcement, probably unwillingly.

What the nastier fans didn't understand (or perhaps they don't care) is that she probably wanted to tell her young children about her illness in her own time, in her own way. Once all the papers are screaming 'Kate has cancer', the children would be exposed to some horrible speculation and misinformation at school, and they were much younger when the news broke.

Of all the victims of H & M, I think Catherine has had it worse. I hope she never allows them back into her life.

Yes, and they paid Sunshine Sachs goodness knows how much (they are not cheap as a PR outfit).
Bad news for H&M then if folks only hear about them on MN. They should ask for their money back..

I remember clearly that just before Megxit, MN was frantically deleting posts on H&M and using the word "racism" in the deletion text. I recall having one post deleted that was literally a comment on how a dress MM wore to a premiere looked badly fitted and too tight, but the comment was deleted because it was racist (?!!)

There was a lot of speculation they were under legal pressure to do so, and the deletions stopped entirely after H&M moved away from the UK.

Looking to add some more push-pins and string to your "H&M Are Rotters" pin board?

I would like to hear more about the white pill Harry placed into Charlotte Griffith’s mouth, I wonder if that is the first time he did that or did he subject more women to his white pill test? Hopefully if there are other women who he did this to they will feel they can come forward now.
