Are the bets on or off for an invite to Balmoral?
Will Meghan bake a humble pie for Catherine?
Let’s discuss……!

Yes it was all very odd, she even went to an engagement with HMTQ less than a month after she married Harry, it was almost a year after Catherine married William that she had a solo engagement with The Queen, and wasn’t Meghan the first ever fiancé to be invited to Christmas at Sandringham iirc? The Palace did seem to fall over themselves to give her special unprecedented treatment.

Writing that post, I forgot M is mixed race. Perhaps BP were very worried about not looking like M was being fully embraced as a member of the family.

People say HMQ had her number from early on. If that’s true, why was she given such important roles and duties early on? I don’t recall K and W doing foreign royal tours within the first year of marriage. H described it as a success in his book but the photos of her fleeing that market because it was unsafe looked terrible. HMQ and the MIGS should have taken it slowly.

I believe the Queen and her advisers were acutely aware of public opinion (bearing in mind the majority of the public were at that time firmly pro-Markle) and also determined to not to give Markle herself any cause to publicly play victim. Appeasement was the name of the game back then; not so much now.

The senior royals were all too aware their new family member was unstable and difficult. I'm surprised they didn't have the bomb squad on speed dial.

She went on around 26 public engagements before the wedding and only 26 days after her wedding, went on her first solo engagement with the Queen!!!

When she looks back at her first Royal engagement in Nottingham and the 1,000s waiting adoringly for her, she must kick herself what she’s lost!

Also my personal opinion why the palace arranged all these visits - What Meghan wants. Meghan gets.

Well Jeff, if I have to be ruled over 'happy and glorious' by someone, I'd rather it wasn't by a couple of tatty deluded cokeheads.

I agree completely! , I may not be fully republican or fully royalist but if either of those attention seeking, embarrassing, uncouth individuals were even a snifter close to the throne I would be chaining myself to the palace and calling for the end immediately!

I think they were worried they would be accused of racism if they didn’t go over the top welcoming her .

A naive my-fair-lady attemp to polish the turd?

Or a find-out-what-we've-got - is this a turd we can polish - exercise?

Or a recognition that H was out mentally already and MM was a golddigger who always planned on hauling her prince back to Cali to merch, so let's give them something to do (to bore them to bits) until they finally fuck off, so we can't be accused of not trying.

Or all three.

I don't think she ever cared about plaudits from us British plebs though. She wanted plaudits from Hollywood a listers and billionaires. British plebs were just her route to gaining worthwhile attention.

Who else had her number from the get-go?

I didn't take to her at all, but it was the dog's-breakfast-look at the engagement announcement - coat like a dressing gown, massive ill-fitting shoes, messy hair and weird arched back posing - that got my Spidey-senses really going. Then the twenty billion pound (or whatever it was) engagement photo shoot dress. I thought, 'The Queen won't like that!' Then it was downhill all the way, really.

I did upbraid myself for my unpleasant and judgemental nature, but after a bit I thought it was more her than me, really.

Yep completely agree. It was the dirty shoes for me and the way she was so gushing in the engagement interview. At first I put it down to her being an American but something didn’t feel right to me
I don’t think anyone could support someone who was a proven liar and bully and who made the Queen’s last years miserable especially all the blatant lies in the OW interview. I think the Queen’s death and the outpouring of sorrow and admiration for her service showed OW she had backed the wrong horse. Hence her scrambling to cover her arse.
I think people are starting to see what the BRF have had to put up with and the respect for Catherine and William has increased.
The Harkles are all fur coat and no knickers. They may shine initially but achieve nothing of substance.
