Writing that post, I forgot M is mixed race. Perhaps BP were very worried about not looking like M was being fully embraced as a member of the family.

I believe the Queen and her advisers were acutely aware of public opinion (bearing in mind the majority of the public were at that time firmly pro-Markle) and also determined to not to give Markle herself any cause to publicly play victim. Appeasement was the name of the game back then; not so much now.

The senior royals were all too aware their new family member was unstable and difficult. I'm surprised they didn't have the bomb squad on speed dial.

She went on around 26 public engagements before the wedding and only 26 days after her wedding, went on her first solo engagement with the Queen!!!

When she looks back at her first Royal engagement in Nottingham and the 1,000s waiting adoringly for her, she must kick herself what she’s lost!

Also my personal opinion why the palace arranged all these visits - What Meghan wants. Meghan gets.

I agree completely! , I may not be fully republican or fully royalist but if either of those attention seeking, embarrassing, uncouth individuals were even a snifter close to the throne I would be chaining myself to the palace and calling for the end immediately!

Yep completely agree. It was the dirty shoes for me and the way she was so gushing in the engagement interview. At first I put it down to her being an American but something didn’t feel right to me
I don’t think anyone could support someone who was a proven liar and bully and who made the Queen’s last years miserable especially all the blatant lies in the OW interview. I think the Queen’s death and the outpouring of sorrow and admiration for her service showed OW she had backed the wrong horse. Hence her scrambling to cover her arse.
I think people are starting to see what the BRF have had to put up with and the respect for Catherine and William has increased.
The Harkles are all fur coat and no knickers. They may shine initially but achieve nothing of substance.

I don't think she does. She actively wanted the crowds to shun her so she could scream racist at us, the UK public later. Adoring public would ruin that plan.

Imagine - they come back, HIHO, nice pad here paid for by the King or ensconced in Windsor, all of the ‘prime’ engagements, wheel out the HAMlets at Easter & Christmas then……HAM decide they don’t like it. They don’t like being told what to do. They can’t cope with William barely acknowledging them and their kids. Meghan feels suicidal
They decide to go back full time to montecito. And they write ANOTHER book, give many many more interviews
They reveal what Catherine’s health issues are. They share the contents of the Late Queens will, and have many many pictures and videos taken inside Windsor, Balmoral and Sandringham

I can only hope you're right about the RF not risking a return, @DaisyDooley, but definitely agree about what the consequences would likely be
To me it was obvious almost from the start that Meghan had no intention of staying here, that Harry was an opportunity and that she deliberately created a narrative to deliver what she wanted, and risking a rerun would be madness

I also agree that they'd have been slammed if they hadn't gone the extra mile for her, but had to smile at the idea it was to prevent her acting the victim ... as if anyone could have stopped her (and she can't act that convincingly either)

@JoanChittyomg the dirty shoes! The biggest day of her life so far and she doesn’t fork out for a new pair of shoes. I wonder if she couldn’t afford to get a new pair.

I did, @DancingFerret. The engagement interview told me who she was and I was right. Everything we’ve learned about her since that day has only confirmed my thinking. I found her simpering and false in that interview. It was blindingly obvious to me that she was playing a part.

I hadn’t read your post @Lifestooshort71, when I added my thoughts, uncanny we were on exactly the same page!

I just remember her claiming she knew nothing about Harry and the only thing she asked their mutual friend was "Is he kind?" I think I dislocated my brain eyerolling at that.

From my American perspective, I am astonished that anyone thought a Socal raised Toronto based actress would be anything other than a disaster. To be honest, in the USA, 49 other states think California is the land of weird lunatics! Anyone with that dreadful vapid Socal upspeak accent receives eyerolls instantly as you know the conversation will be a woo-woo word salad fest.

I had low expectations and then that dreadful engagement photoshoot with the ludicrously overpriced dress that was see-through on top. Given that other brides in H's generation had engagement dresses under a thousand pounds, that would have given a normal woman a range to work with, but not M! For me, it was clear evidence that M would not toe the line, but I never thought HaM would quit in a huff or do tell-alls. HaM wildly exceeded my low expectations in finding new subterranean levels!

A comedy of errors indeed.

C's engagement dress cost £385. OK expensive by normal person standards, but pretty modest by RF standards. And a formal photoshoot, not the gloopy filmstar version.

I had doubts from the pre-engagement Wild About Harry interview. The engagement fakeness and simpering sealed those doubts. My cousin the next day said 'Here's trouble'. How right she was.

From the get go? Yes. From her brother's letter actually. Even if it was nonsense from him, how did the sort of people who write such public nonsense about their sister get within the RF's orbit? And I knew it wasn't nonsense anyway, the words he used were so specific, "jaded & cynical" iirc. I just thought oh she's not a head girl type, she's not going fit in. Then I saw the engagement interview. I remember saying "she's out for herself, she'll go on talk shows & write books." I didn't realise how talentless & empty she was though and it's a good job she is really, with a bit more intelligence & patience she could have got away with a lot more.

Anyone taking anything she came out with seriously after that point needs their brain examined IMO.
