The outpouring of criticism about them both has been enthralling & entertaining, but I really think it's time to just leave them alone. Let them get on with their lives and sink into relative obscurity, like Edward and Wallis Simpson. What do you think?

We have no idea about William, because he's very private like that. If Harry can't, then he needs a different therapist.
Random members of the public with no skin in the game? Weird.

I agree. That’s why I said “I would be very surprised if….” I was thinking about the way most people feel about childhood trauma. We don’t expect them to “get over it”.

And you only have to spend 5 minutes on here to see that many people appear to have a disconcertingly close and personal relationship with the RF. I can see why some people would find it hard to gloss over the King and Queen’s past behaviour….

Oh I see, I get you.
True!
Yes, I think on the RF threads you do get people who seem over invested in that way, and definitely those who have parasocial relationships.

TheHatTrick · 10/08/2026 13:45

Interesting phrasing. “She cannot forgive them”.

I could understand judging them based on their behavior, but “forgive”? Surely she was not personally impacted?

Oh but she was!

TillieAndPosey · 10/08/2026 14:27

quaintireneofrye · 10/08/2026 13:50

Sounds like a parasocial relationship. That was apparent after Diana's death, wasn't it? All the flowers and the weeping.

It's not that deep. MIL wasn't one of the flower-placing people or anything like that (not that I think they were weird, either. People can do what they like).

But you can feel that way if you want to. She lived through it all (as am I). She liked Diana (as did I). Diana was very young, everyone could see it was wrong from the beginning but there we are.

It's all lighthearted, we gossip and it's normal.

It certainly gives some perspective on the people I know who can’t get over things that actually happened to them 50 years ago. 🤣

Pedant61 · 10/08/2026 14:47

The person to "not forgive" from 30 years ago is Martin Bashir - he caused a lot of serious damage to a lot of people. It is also alleged that when Diana referred to "three of us in this marriage" she meant Tiggy, as Bashir had convinced her that Charles was having a whirl with Tiggy (plus a pregnancy and abortion).
I think Diana, Charles and Camilla all deserve both sympathy and empathy for the tough times they went through - like the rest of us, humans make mistakes. But I struggle with Bashir - it was blatant manipulation.

Absolutely this. Good points.

This is me re: the subjects of this thread.

”It's all lighthearted, we gossip and it's normal.”

But I am not really forgiving of that clap back message on their website, but may get over it if they ever take it down. Like @TillieAndPosey MIL, I felt a personal impact.

What message was that?

What message was that?

https://people.com/royals/meghan-markle-prince-harry-push-back-queen-elizabeth-statement-service-is-universal/

"Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service," the palace statement said.

In response, Prince Harry and Meghan pushed back with a statement that pointedly referenced the Queen's: "We can all live a life of service. Service is universal."

Bit of a snide reply to HMQ, and I am not over it.

Some of you seem very well-informed. I appreciate your input. I had overlooked their own role in their predicament, and I suppose I made the schoolgirl error of putting myself into the shoes of people who perhaps don't deserve empathy. Narcissists are their own worst enemies as any fule no.

What an irony that, in the land of narcissists, they should be seen as beyond the pale! Awks 🤣

Are you referring to Southern California or to the US in general? 🤔

DoubleDoubleDown · 10/08/2026 16:44

I don't usually comment on the H&M threads. I saw them on Friday evening, they were at a gala I was attending for work. They were just mingling freely and I have to say they looked very happy. I'm not their biggest fan but whatever they're doing with their lives it seems to be working for them.

ExOptimist · 10/08/2026 18:44

quaintireneofrye · 10/08/2026 13:39

That was more than 30 years ago. Maybe it's time for people to move on.

Of course people move on but at the same time don't forget events of 30, 40, 60 years ago. When events have happened they don't get wiped off the public consciousness.

Camilla and Charles behaved dreadfully towards Diana. Just because Diana conveniently died and they could marry doesn't mean the public should regard them as an unblemished wonderful couple.

Strange interpretation. I never said events should be "wiped off"! 😂 Nor did I suggest the somewhat wild claim that people should think C&C are an "unblemished wonderful couple"!
Wild.

I would be very surprised if her children have entirely moved on……

As the child of someone who married their affair partner, I can assure you I (and my siblings) have very much moved on. Because we’re adults, who understand relationships are complicated and some don’t work. What’s even more shocking is I actually love both my stepparents, even the one who was the affair partner. I didn’t for a long time but then like I said I grew up, realised my parents were both happy and ultimately that’s all that matters.

That's a very intelligent and mature response. 🌸 I'm sure it's better to have this approach in life than to remain bitter for years about things in the past you can't change.

Pastimperfection · 10/08/2026 19:01

I have no interest in them but the constant cruelty dished out to them evil. They have made mistakes, but they are only human. Newspaper and media only want to make money out of them.

That’s a pretty horrible thing to say.

Diana also made some mistakes in a similar vein which have been noted above. It’s all in the past.

I’d love to hear your perspective on Harry and Meghan leaking details about a private meeting between KC staff and their own to Charlotte Griffiths. After it was covered in the Daily Mail due to their leak, they complained and blamed Buckingham palace staff.

Direct evidence that they are purposely courting the attention.

Re the weeping and wailing at Diana’s funeral. It was only partly about Diana the person.

Most people who get teary for a person they have no personal relationship with it’s more about ourselves and how loss and death makes us confront those feelings for our own lives.

We imagine losing our own parents, or children, or best friends. We empathize over the loss, and feel the feelings in a similar way to crying at the death of a movie or book character.

I remember crying when Victoria Wood died when watching Julie Walters in an interview where she said she was too sad to talk about it. I wasn’t crying for Victoria Wood - I was thinking about what it would feel like to lose my best friend after decades of working together.
