Mercy for Meghan & Harry

The outpouring of criticism about them both has been enthralling & entertaining, but I really think it's time to just leave them alone. Let them get on with their lives and sink into relative obscurity, like Edward and Wallis Simpson. What do you think?

I love the gossip but cannot understand the hatred. But, recently social media and discussion forums just seem full of haters, trolls and bots, generally, anyway.

I think Harry looks terribly unhappy in recent photos. I think H&M’s image is undergoing a planned and deliberate rehabilitation at the moment. I think working up to some kind of professional relationship with the RF and acceptance in the UK. Not necessarily HIHO but something similar. It will succeed, as it did with Camilla.

It’s very sad, H was always so popular, the UK was happy for him and M but they blew it. I think H regrets it and misses his brother and SIL and their children.

People will leave them alone when they stop making a show of themselves, their actions make them a target for mockery.

This. If only they would live a quiet life.
But they can't can they. They are attention seeking fools, very very rich but seemingly with a victim mentality despite rubbishing their families in the media.

This.

But I hope they don't get the half-in, half-out arrangement that they wanted. Their royal privilege comes with lashings of responsibility.

It makes me think of Andrew and his lifelong quest for relevance and desperate need for money. From what I hear, he was always kept short of money, despite his closest relations being millionaires. Hence the money-grubbing and questionable choices from both him and Fergie. I can't help but feel glad for Fergie and her huge inheritance from her old flame recently. Perhaps she can relax and enjoy the rest of her life.
Andrew is obviously a victim of his own credulity and clearly rather unpleasant. Epstein saw them coming.
Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself with H&M

I was very anti Camilla but agree that the palace did a tremendous job on rehabilitating her with the public. But that was successful because she kept quiet, didn't seek the limelight, didn't speak publicly for a very long time, and when she eventually did it was only ever in relation to good causes. She obviously behaved however she was instructed to.

I cannot imagine that Harry and especially Meghan would agree to behave like that, because keeping quiet, being in the background and toeing the line are simply not what they apparently want to do. They are at the bottom of the royal popularity polls and I think they will never regain the popularity they had prior to leaving.

Whatever rapprochement they have with Charles I find it hard to believe that W and C would want to have anything to do with them after all the negative hurtful things that they have said about them.

Here's a thread running for fans and/or people who like them and want to post nice stuff.

God, I sound like a royalist saying this, but I'm so impressed with their dignity and sense of duty. I've never met either of them, but from what I see, they are both thoroughly decent and kind people. Kate seems genuinely lovely, and seems to just instinctively know how to put people at their ease. They both look like they enjoy what they're doing. Their children seem absolutely lovely too. I don't think this is the result of their PR. You can't fake it over the long term.

I see this a lot these days . Blatant royalist postings but for whatever reason the new approach is to pretend not to be. Of course OP you are sincere I’ve no doubt - but you do sound like a royalist as you state yourself .

Many examples of this on the royal board. Posters insist they are ‘neutral’ yet spend their entire life trying to big up William and Kate and jump on every post with criticism of the corrupt Windsors .

Why is this ? Is it thought that trying to insist you are not a royalist adds legitimacy? Think it through- why would this legitimacy be needed ? Is it because being a royalist is now, quite rightly , associated with tolerating abuses of many kinds?

quaintireneofrye · 09/08/2026 12:15

I think it's very important to them to be royal and to be treated as such. They obviously want a sort of celebrity lifestyle. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to be fandom and plaudits all the way.
Plus, Harry describing himself recently as a working royal? Plus..."Prince of England" ! (sic) I do wonder about him, sometimes.

threesocksmorgan · 09/08/2026 12:15

oh look yet another H&M bashing thread.

It's interesting, because I'm guessing that the fans of Harry and Meghan are the more hardline monarchists/royalists, as they try to maintain the status of royalty outside of the organisation.
Strange though.

being a bit less rich than your rich relatives does not begin to explain the things he's been accused of

and whilst he may not have had a bottomless money fund, it seems highly unlikely the queen left him skint 🙄

Nonsense .

What on earth will some people do with their time though?

quaintireneofrye · 09/08/2026 12:23

Ukisgaslit · 09/08/2026 12:21

Nonsense .

It's nonsense to believe that Harry and Meghan have somehow become republican or challenged the monarchy.
They are royal, and enjoy the titles, wealth and privilege. If you support that, you're a royalist.

Ponderingwindow · 09/08/2026 12:23

They had the option to step away to a quiet life. They could have lived modestly in the U.S. Former celebrities blend into middle class America and are largely ignored all the time.

milkhater · 09/08/2026 12:27

Itsbeenalongtimeincoming · 09/08/2026 11:33

I’m perhaps people would leave them alone when they stop being on tv shows, Netflix specials, publicise their trips, act as pseudo ambassadors a with all of the pomp and fanfare associated, they stay off social media, stop giving interviews, stop accepting bogus awards, stop making speeches to keep themselves relevant etc…..

Why consume it though? I’m not particularly interested in them so don’t watch them, follow them or read about them. I find the people who watch them just to moan about them so odd.

Pedant61 · 09/08/2026 12:32

I'm not sure that Edward and Wallis ever "sank into obscurity " - they were active in high society circles, wrote 'poor me' books, magazine articles etc. I'm old enough to remember the massive press reaction at Wallis's death, and for her funeral at Windsor.
Yes, they patched things up with the Queen to a limited extent at the end of the Duke's life but, if you read the books and letters, he constantly complained about his family and how he was treated. He asked his brother, the King, for money. He thought he could abdicate and then return to Britain as a beloved brother and HRH....er, no! The parallels with current "exiled" Royal Family members are rather striking....

I dont ‘support’ either of them .

But I do find the media attacks interesting - and by media I include forums . Nothing says irrelevant like 30 thread saying how irrelevant you are lol .

Have Harry and Meghan helped hasten the end of the monarchy ? Definitely- so thanks for that , however inadvertent .

Have they proven all the PR machination we always suspected the Windsors delve in? Also yes .

Also the royalist ‘ he’s no longer royalbecause he left’ argument is fascinatingly short sighted .
Personally I say no one is royal - it’s all a lie .
But royalists believe in magic blood - so they have exposed their own argument as nonsense .
Again - thanks !

Thank you for clarifying. I thought you clung to the belief that H&M were somehow modernising the monarchy or living as non royals.
I largely agree with you, and I think H&M have unwittingly shown up some of the problems. Harry self describing as a "Prince of England", and Meghan having a coronet on her notepaper.
I don't hate them, but I think the pair of them have been foolish and I wish they could find the courage to break away from being royal.
It won't happen though.

JudyTeeny · 09/08/2026 12:37

They'd hate to live in obscurity.

Snorlaxo · 09/08/2026 12:49

You’ve totally contradicted your initial post by replying with comments about the duo.

If everyone who really believed that enough had been said stopped posting then there would be less said about them.

I’m replying to this as this board comes up on Active. Reversing that would also help towards less comments.

The comments won’t stop until the duo stop living a public life. And that includes the Insta account which now regularly features the children which is very hypocritical and unfair on them. They are the easiest way to attract attention and make money but shouldn’t be used that way imo.

It's all relative...
I do agree that there's a huge sense of entitlement there, but when you're socialising with billionaires, I suppose you do feel skint 🙃
In terms of the abuse, all I can say is that 'twas ever thus... The royal family down the centuries haven't been known for their good behaviour towards women!

As for
Remember Caroline Flack.

lol

CurlewKate · 09/08/2026 13:18

Whatever else, H&M will never be let off the hook by the British press. The third estate has a VERY long memory and never forgive. Even if they try to live a quiet life the Mail will find things to tell us about them. And will manipulate us into engaging.
