Eugenie gave birth to a daughter on Monday. She was born in Lisbon, Portugal.

The baby’s name has not been revealed yet.

If anyone cares.

but were Ernest and August royal connected names?

GooseyDuck · 04/08/2026 20:49

Camila would have been nice, shame it’s taken. Catarina?

Elodie? Marina? Florence? I don’t think it’ll be stuffy. Hope it’s not Adélaïde because I rather like that!

Victoria had grandsons with both names in their names I think.

She said August was named after his x5 great grandfather (one of Prince Albert’s middle names was August) and Ernest is named after his x3 great grandfather (one of George V’s middle names was Ernest). George III also had sons called Augustus Frederick and Ernest Augustus.

Another hanger-on for our taxes to support. If we must have a monarchy, only the heir and their direct descendants should receive funding by the taxpayer. Extended family should get nothing. No money. No houses. No trust funds. No titles. No privileges. If that means they end up working in Greggs, so be it.

They are not supported by the taxpayers. They have their own jobs

HoraceCope · 04/08/2026 21:27

Maud

EmpressSisi · 04/08/2026 21:39

I just thought if they’re going for middle names of Prince Albert and George V, they might not go so obvious for the girl either. Maybe Alexandrina? And there have been a few Georgian queens and princesses with the name Amelia (first and middle).

It’s so much fun guessing 😊

Nice news but Royal IG HRH announces?

Read the room.

I would put an odds on bet on Victoria being in the name -but I’m going to go for Cecile. Daughter in law of Ernest of Hesse, who was the son of Princess Alice of Great Britain (Queen Victoria daughter).
Cecile was Prince Philip’s favourite sister.
So I’m going for Cecile Victoria Margaret.

Wasn't she Cecilie not Cecile?

She and her sister don't receive any public funding, not being working royals. Daddy Andrew went berserk when their security was removed years ago.

They do receive public funding. They both have houses supplied by the state ,one in Windsor one in Buck Palace. They pay no rent on and both properties are supported by the state. Also money from their father who took money whilst working for the country.

Theresip · 04/08/2026 22:02

I think she might call her Elizabeth as her first name. None of the great grandkids are called that, and they were meant to have been quite close.

RunRunfaster81 · 04/08/2026 22:15

I think Edith or Agatha/ Agnes, Dorothy

Hepzibar · 04/08/2026 22:18

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/08/2026 19:52

I think she'll go for a name like Adelaide or Caroline.

Agree - I’m going for Adelaide Maud

so Eugenie took the picture

The official IG post credits Jack Brooksbank

It’s interesting people note the middle names of Queen Victoria’s kids, like Ernest. Out of them I’d guess Mary. But I think it’ll be something else a little ‘different’.

Whynottryagain · 04/08/2026 20:10

Well she has an A child and an E child, so maybe this one will be an I.

So I'm predicting Isabella as it also has Portuguese links.

Isn't Isabella a Portuguese and Spanish variant of Elizabeth?

Even better then!

I don't think it's going to be Cecily as together with Ernest it looks like they are major Oscar Wilde fans (I suppose they might be?!)

Maybe this baby will be Frederica then?!

I love baby news. I had hope William and Catherine would have another.

She’s had 3, she’s had cancer .. surely her body has been through enough? 😵‍💫 I’m not a fan of the royals by any means, but I love royal baby news .. well any baby news to be fair 😂

Exactly.
All this "oh they take no money" is such bollocks. Why are people so sycophantic??

Well those properties exist so someone might as well live in them.
Better than them standing empty.

Funchythesnowwoman · 04/08/2026 22:57

They could pay the full market rate.

I think Uncle Charles KCIIi pays the rent on the St James Palace accommodation

Tax payers DON'T support Eugenie (or her sister).
They both have jobs and if they gave up their jobs they both have rich husbands.

Yet they live free in royal cottages when they fancy being in the UK!

Who pays for those then? The fairies?? 🙄
