Can’t see a new thread so thought I would start a new one to continue discussing the grifters

I would love to know what the truth of all this is. I did think Kate looked miserable and tense at Trooping and wondered if something was up.

Probably ‘Republic’ acting like a bunch of angry nutters in view of her fairly young children?

I do not think ‘Republic’ is a good advert for an orderly political, constitutional form of republic or republicanism. Quite the opposite.

So I’m guessing Harry can wake up today to enjoy a hibiscus tea, bread with no butter but fruit jam and sprinkles served on numerous silver trays.

Don't forget the dried out half an orange!

...and a burnt croissant.

There’s some forthright views on Birmingham on the thread about ‘worst places on the UK’ (thinking about Harry’s latest efforts to flog Invictus as a destination) (hi, Haz).

Here’s one for his delectation:

Lived in Birmingham for decades, moved away, it’s like some lawless dystopia now! I think we should just build a big wall round it, preferably with a large dome on top and really deep foundations. Has zero redeeming features to it. It’s a lost cause.’

Any bets on H now demanding Invictus books and pays for an entire floor of a five star hotel for him and his retinue in Warwick or Stratford-on-Avon? Blenheim? Chauffeur driven bullet proof cars daily?

BTW - where have all the Sugars gone?

They seem to be on the George school thread! 🤷‍♀️

I agree. He’s seen Catherine overcome cancer, and face down one of the most egregious online hate campaigns ever waged. Their kids seem to be thriving; and they have come through an awful period (thanks to Harry’s betrayal , Andrew’s disgusting revelations, his father’s cancer and the deaths of his grandparents) looking stronger than ever. I am convinced that, despite the trouble Harry has caused, William is 100% happier for not having to feel responsible for him or having to always factor Harry’s future prospects and numerous issues into his life, and that is reflected in his demeanour.

I completely agree with this, @Indianrollerbird looking back, I think William has had decades of putting up with Harry and can only imagine his side of the story - his restraint at not responding to Harry is admirable! As time goes by, there's going to be less and less that connects them as brothers and William will have enough on his plate that he won't need Harry's chaos.
He is a much more mature, thoughtful and intelligent man than his brother, and you can tell he's more interested in being his children's father than their mate. I think he loves KC but I'm sure he's learnt a lot about family life from being around Michael Middleton.

One insider said: ‘Queen Camilla, King Charles, and the Princess of Wales were not outwardly warm together that day and the reason was not just the protesters. Relations were decidedly frosty backstage.’

Clearly ignoring the online photographs showing the King and POW smiling at each other when sitting on the dais, in between taking salutes (let alone on the balcony).

It's just nonsense, isn't it? Some people are determined to spread negative rumours and we know why.

Fairly obnoxious from Norman Baker

The nondescript Prince Edward, 14th in line to the throne, was dispatched instead.

I suspect his opinion on which member of the royal family should go was not requested.

MrsLeonFarrell · 21/06/2026 11:01

William is on record as saying he wants to change the Royal model. We may agree or disagree with him on this but it's clear that he is focusing on a few areas rather than the more traditional general focus of some others.

I don't see how William can be called work shy and then also be criticised for constant work in the Duchy. One interpretation is that he is enriching himself, another is that he has plans to change the focus of the Duchy, as we have seen with recent articles on selling property and building affordable housing, and is working out how to do that. Whichever side you come down on probably depends on your overall view of monarchy.

Norman Baker is an interesting voice on royal finances but he doesn't seem to appreciate that the model is changing. If the country decides we want an Anne or a Charles monarch then William will have to adapt bit he isn't there yet.

Oh I doubt that H's children will have a role in the ceremonials, whatever their age. They are an unknown quantity, and the institution surrounding the Head of State would not risk placing teenagers of unknown temperament and unfamiliar with British traditionals in a prominent role.

I agree completely, Rhaidimiddim, not least because it would hardly be fair on the children

No doubt Harry would love them being "excluded" though ... the accusations he could fling are all too predictable Hmm

"She has notions"😂 as my dear old mum would say.

My dad would have said "it went to her head and found a lot of room there".

I don't think she looked miserable on the live stream but the pallets seem to have chosen stills for an agenda this year. She is allergic to horses so I wonder if that affects her face and energy though, allergies definitely affect mine.

If a woman wrote that, she'd be called "bitchy".

Norman Baker is very knowledgable about certain aspects of the monarchy, especially finances, but his problem, like that of republicans in general, is that they come off as rather snide and bitchy. Which is fine for a gossip column, but not if you're hoping to change a thousand year old system of government which most people are happy enough with. Or at least, not unhappy enough to want to plunge the country into turmoil to get rid of it. They need to put forward a workable, positive alternative rather than making personal comments about this or that member of the royal family.

As for the argument about William being 'lazy' I don't think it's entirely without merit. However, he is still only the Prince of Wales and as such his role is one of convention, not of constitutional importance. Also, it's worth pointing out that the 'European royals' who so many here hold up as some sort of model tend to do a lot less 'work' than the British royals have traditionally done. So if that's what people see as a viable model, then William appears to be moving in that direction.

William's birthday today and of course it's Father's Day. No doubt a tribute to papa Sussex on way

I don’t know if you caught the Sun’s royal
podcast the other day (can’t remember what it’s called), but they had Graham Smith on trying to justify Republic’s booing of the Wales children. It was very clear to me from whom/where the pro Sussex republicans who litter these boards receive their talking points.

Which random limb will we see today? Or just the usual backs of heads?

I'm not sure that he's lazy - more, I think, that he has definite ideas of how his role should be developing.

When you hear people speak who have been involved with his initiatives or who are tenants of the Duchy they give the impression of someone who is involved and committed rather than lazy.

Part of the problem, I think, is that the only other Prince of Wales that most of us can compare him to is his father - a renowned workaholic.

I think any mother would be concerned in a situation like this eg An object or liquid could have been thrown. She was being vigilant.

The thing about saying lazy is that you have to say why you think that. You generally that is.

Do you use the number of engagements in the Court Circular? Do you look at social media posts to see what's going on? So you find out about meetings that happen behind the scenes (as in the Duchy comments). Whatever data you gather do you then compare royals to royals or to other professions?

It's easy to call someone lazy, but I think it's not really fair unless you define your terms and make it clear what you mean by hard working.

William does fewer public engagements than Anne. They are however working in styles that belong to different royal models and eras. We also don't know what they do that we don't see. I'm on the fence about it.

I absolutely agree. The discussion above about the now hackneyed “ANGRY William” trope simply belies pretty much all we have seen of him. In stark contrast to his brother, who has an obvious undercurrent of lividity that has publicly spilled over on many an occasion. In any event, anger, when it isn’t misplaced, is an absolutely valid emotion to have, and those who use it against him never seem to give a concrete example of him being unjustifiably angry; so it seems to me that it’s just a case of them saying something pejorative over and over again (like the lazy trope) in the hope that it takes root in the minds of the public.

I agree. In any report, film, or interview William has been attentive, measured and articulate. I think he's a reflective person with a clear agenda.
The lazy/angry tropes are utterly ridiculous and without foundation, and I suspect comes from the Sussex fans.
