I reckon H & M will have a car allocated to take them to Charles's funeral service because (1) is it really right to make him take a bus with wider relatives to his Dad's funeral? and (2) they won't want to give him an opportunity for grievance and drama. He'll also sit in the front row in a prominent position (no hiding him behind candlesticks). For the same reasons.

It 100% won't be an entry way back in. It'll be the last thing they do for him.

I’m not sure about this. Does H retain the right to be treated with dignity after all his self serving machinations? After all the awful things he’s said about his father? I don’t see W feeling the need to make any concessions. Maybe the MiG will influence him otherwise but we’ll see.

I agree entirely, except on one point. I think Catherine is (at least) just as normal.

Camilla has had decades of watching the upper classes at play (and war) and her opinion will carry much weight in that family.

Diana was on a whole other level - an aristocrat raised on the Sandringham estate, her granny a close friend of the Queen Mother.

I would expect W and his advisors to treat H with respect on and around the funeral (while controlling his movements and keeping a watchful eye on him).

Anything else would be graceless, would reflect badly on W and the Institution, and would give H a further raft of complaints to flood the tabloids with.

BTW - where have all the Sugars gone?

I think MM being a born hustler will survive,

Is she really a 'hustler' though?

She had global fame, prestige, popularity and lucrative deals thrown in her lap just a few years ago.

Now she's selling matches on the internet.

Not much of a hustle.

Exactly. She’s useless at everything.

Her husband is the angry version of useless at everything.

Superbly put, Rhaidimiddim; on this particular subject it's not so much about the wrong Harry's done as not sinking to his level

I mentioned this ages ago, but I was once involved in a Scouts/Guides international thing where Margaret came to visit. Nearly every leader there had a tale of offence she'd caused at some previous event, and I very much felt for the lady who had to escort her round - that is until she did it

It was an absolute masterclass in offering courtesy to someone who simply doesn't deserve it and set an example I still treasure

Despite the 'people's princess' moniker, Diana was an aristocrat to the very core. She was extremely proud of the fact that the Spencers were an older, more noble and more 'English' family than the one she had married into.

Didn't she disparagingly refer to the Windsors as 'the Germans'?

I do agree with this . And whilst it does seem to be disrespectful talking about KC's funeral - and deo volente - it won't be for a while yet , he knows that just like his mother people are pretty much planning the monarch's passing and funeral from the moment they become the monarch.

Diana was absolutely an aristocrat , Camilla I would say very much used to those circles , Catherine , whilst from a very privileged background was pretty much middle class with a wealthy family. I'm not saying any of these are better than the other. But in terms of a "normal" person being married to the monarch - I reckon Catherine is as close as W was likely to get. Anyway - no matter.

Beesandhoney123 · 20/06/2026 19:39

They dont hustle imo. They dont have the smarts. They dont care what anyone thinks of them and clearly believe there is no such thing as bad publicity. Harry almost certainly is so entitled given his royal birth and upper class- acerbated by his wife whom has no position and class and no idea how to behave in any situation.

They remind me of Mr Wickham and Lydia, in many ways. Always turning up skint, outstaying their welcome and knowing exactly when to stop but choosing not to, weirdly enjoying the drama and misery they cause.

Mg wont want to meet K, she will have to curtsey, wont she?

She did, she loved being an aristocrat and very proud of the Spencer heritage.

In a similar position for a charity, I can report that Sophie was absolutely fine to show around and have a cup of tea with. Polite, normal, well briefed, independent, friendly.

Au contraire. They desperately care what people think of them. I've never known anyone in public life so very bothered by what random strangers are saying about them.

I agree, Harry will be at the centre of the funeral and will be in total control of the MIGS of that I have no doubt. What will be interesting in this scenario is will Archie and Lily stand guard as the grandchildren of the monarch as the Queen’s grandchildren did when she was lying in state? If they have built a relationship with King Charles before he dies I presume it will happen, if they haven’t, how would the MIGS deal with that (I’m going on the assumption that the children will be teenagers when this happens)

Clearly the lass was raised to have manners, and what a shame Meghan didn't heed her example

Oh I think Catherine is more ‘normal’ -I just meant that when Camilla married in she was at that point the most normal background person to marry in to a high ranked member.

Off on a tangent -lovely article about The Duchess of Gloucester who has been an excellent example of how ‘normal’ marrying in works - and how these normal women have backbone and duty in bucketloads.
She shows how it should be done. I covert her pearl & cabochon emerald necklace.

Duchess of Gloucester has the look of love posing with prince husband

Birgitte beamed lovingly at her husband, the Duke of Gloucester in a brand-new portrait captured in the garden at Buckingham Palace to mark her 80th birthday.

And someone who married a true 'spare' - with no expectation that she would be anything but a secretary married to an architect.

I’m calling it now,
I think William as King will be seated front row with Camilla, Catherine and his children . Then on the opposite side will be the Late Kings siblings Anne and Edward with their working spouses.
Im convinced he will prioritise working royals.
Harry might be seated in the row behind Anne with her jolly feathered hat!
I don’t think William will accept any attention seeking shit from Harry when he’s king. This will be the funeral of a monarch first, father/brother second.
I don’t think Andrew will be going.

1000× this. Catherine and her loving family are the biggest asset for William. Always makes me laugh when people trot out the idea that she was desperate to catch him. He should thank his lucky stars every night that she agreed to marry him!

Not2identifying · 20/06/2026 20:26

I hadn't realised the Duchess of Gloucester was nearly 80. She looks incredible.

@BigWillyLittleTodger That's an interesting question (about standing vigil). I think instead of doing children of the monarch on one evening and grandchildren on the next evening, I think they could do Wales family on one evening and Sussex family on the next evening (if they want to). With QEII, the 'married-ins' didn't stand vigil so it'd be W, G, C and L and H, A and L.

I don't think William pushing Harry out at/before the funeral would be the right note for him to start on and would attract attention in its own right. If he gives Harry a role and Harry mucks it up* then that would be a reflection on him (the latter).

Edit: 'mucks it up' with game playing and ridiculousness

MrsLeonFarrell · 20/06/2026 20:29

I don't see how Archie and Lily could stand vigil. It seems a cruel thing to ask of children who have no experience of or training for such an intense spotlight.

Not2identifying · 20/06/2026 20:35

I was imagining them being teenagers, assuming we've all seen their faces by then, etc. Edward's children stood vigil and although they've had carriage rides and balcony appearances, they've always had a low public profile with (I bet) a huge percentage of the UK population having no idea who they are.

Plus, don't forget, it would be the Duke of Norfolk's role (with William's permission) to make the offer, H & M can say they don't want their kids doing it.

I guess if the kids don't do it, it probably would need to be W & H on one evening and G, C and L doing it the next. Or maybe they'd mix it up and get Charles's siblings and nieces/nephews involved, etc.

I think it might have been me that brought up Charles's funeral and I apologise if this has been off-putting for anyone. I hope you all know that I wish Charles a long and happy life! My mind has just gone off in a tangent thinking about how the institution and the family will handle this complicated situation.
