What’s really sad about all this I think, is that even the hardest and most cynical of hearts can admit that it might be nice if there were a private reconciliation between Charles and Harry, and if Charles could spend time with his Sussex grandchildren before he dies. But this is quite clearly not the priority for Harry. If it were, he’d be keeping quiet, trying to build trust and restore his reputation with the family, instead of spinning a load of bollocks for PR wins. He cares more about generating press attention than actually building bridges with his family, unfortunately. And that’s why this trip will ultimately come to nothing. No doubt they will claim it as a big victory, how they were happy to acquiesce to Charles’s increasingly frantic pleas to come over etc etc. But it’ll all be lies, a few days later they’ll be back to trying to scratch a living in California - they won’t be at Balmoral, they won’t be at Sandringham for Christmas, they might see Charles briefly and privately once in a blue moon but they’ll never be working royals, invited to official events or seen in public anywhere near the rest of the family again, except maybe arms length at Charles’s funeral.

It's occurred to me reading this that the worst thing William will have to face is going to be Charles's funeral. Harry will have to be enabled to attend, and William will have to interact with him. That's going to be excruciatingly painful. He'll be able to set better boundaries when he's actually king but the immediate period will be hell.

For that and other reasons, let's hope Charles has as good a run as can be managed. He's done better than I expected as king, with a difficult act to follow, especially in his recent handling of Trump.

H would do well to try to appease William and C. Any more sling shots towards them and William will remove their titles as soon as he's king. KC is approaching 80 and living with cancer. William could well be king before he is 50

You'd think they would have realised that. Also that Wiliam has a significant income from his Duchy and oversees many properties. For greedy people, I'm surprised they didn't want to stay on his side.

I would also beef up the security on the Crown Jewels, remember 'Whatever Meghan wants, Meghan gets' according to her poodle Harry

Actually that's a good point. If they did stay in the Tower of London perhaps we might see the 3rd ( or is it 4th) iteration of M's engagement ring.

"Camilla, darling , can you look down the back of the sofa , I am advised Cullinan I is missing - I'm sure I gave it back with the Crown" (pats pockets , quizzical face) 😊

bluegreygreen · 20/06/2026 13:20

They do tend to think short-term, though, @OctopusFriend.

Before the late Queen died, it was comments like 'making sure she had the right people round her' but insulting Prince Charles.

Yes but visceral hatred seems to takeover. And stupidity. Obviously don't know any of these people but William seems to be a very different animal to KC. His fury at the racism slurs was so evident when he was caught off guard and questioned.

bluegreygreen · 20/06/2026 13:24

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/06/2026 12:54

I think it’s unlikely that BP would deny Charles is paying for security if he is, that’s asking for trouble

The palace spin and twist about a lot of things, @noonames, but I can't really see it being an issue if Charles really did use his own money for this ... though it could easily become one if it later turned out that (as so often) he'd found a way to charge the public purse for his wants

And yes, @Mylovelygreendress, the veterans are indeed being forgotten among all this, but there's a long and sad history of that happening and it's unlikely to be any different this time

Frankly I wonder if the vets wouldn't do better to choose one of the other service charities, and if Invictus eventually collapses they may do just that, but time will tell

He could potentially pay for private security, but it has long been a principle that no-one can pay for police security in the UK, and what Harry wants is armed police security.

Starryfifty · 20/06/2026 13:25

Why should KC pay for them coming over? Even if it's out of his own pocket 🙄 can they not fund this themselves??

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/06/2026 13:31

I'm sure it will be painful, @PullTheBricksDown, but while there's been even more water under the bridge since then Harry came for the unveiling of his mum's statue, the Queen's funeral and his dad's coronation and since William kept a good face on it then I'm sure he could do it again - especially knowing he'd then be "it" and could call the shots

And you're right, @bluegreygreen; private security is exactly what I meant in mentioning Charles paying. It might not be what Harry wants, but then very little ever is, and I doubt further whining will win him any more friends

Yes, you're right. h&M are driven by greed, hatred and jealousy, peppered with arrogance and entitlement.
Perhaps the chickens are coming home to roost.

I don’t think William will have much time to give Harry much thought, between the Queen’s death and her funeral Charles did a nationwide tour as listed below, William will probably do similar, Harry will just bleat on GMTV how unfair it all is as the penny will really drop he is utterly finished, plus George will be an adult and the new heir to the throne, the new royal superstar, no one will be particularly interested in old, bald Harry.

King Charles III undertook a nationwide tour of the UK nations and carried out several ceremonial visits and public engagements across London, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. [1, 2, 3, 4]
His official visits and engagements between the death of Queen Elizabeth II and her state funeral included: [1, 2]

  • London: First arrived at Buckingham Palace to greet crowds on September 9. Held a private audience with Prime Minister Liz Truss. [, 3, 4]
  • Scotland: Traveled to Edinburgh to receive a Motion of Condolence from the Scottish Parliament and attended a service of reflection at St Giles' Cathedral on September 12. He also led a vigil alongside his siblings. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Northern Ireland: Flew to Belfast on September 13 to visit Hillsborough Castle, view an exhibition, and attend a service of prayer at St Anne's Cathedral. [1]
  • Wales: Visited Cardiff on September 16, where he received a Motion of Condolence at the Senedd (Welsh Parliament) and attended a thanksgiving service at Llandaff Cathedral. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

What happens now? The 10 days of events after death of Queen Elizabeth II

Plans include ceremonial processions, period of lying in state and King’s formal proclamation

We don't need to be conspiracy theorists or even make anything up to note what those chickens are doing, OctopusFriend; all we have to do is notice how every mover and shaker has vanished from their orbit

And who can blame them ...

Didn't Harry think that the Duchy money would be "shared" with him? Part of his "co-King" delusion?

LondonRidge · 20/06/2026 13:36

They’re terrified of the truth, and they want securidee to hide it.

It’s all a show to disguise and distract from the truth that people despise what they stand for. That they’re nobodies. That no one wants them here.

Securidee is there to protect them from people booing. From the world seeing that a crowd of one has turned up because they’re so irrelevant.

It’s a show that allows them both to grandstand and to avoid having to go near the public at the same time.

The only threat that exists to H&M is to their ego.

Which is exactly why you never see any of this performative BS from the actual RF.

Lunde · 20/06/2026 13:36

I strongly suspect that came from Charles using the Duchy of Cornwall to fund both the boys, Lunde, just as William will now be using it for his own kids

However he's not William's kid, and while Charles could now use the Duchy of Lancaster to fund Harry - and could even be doing so for all we know - he's a grown man who chose this course and should therefore be makinng his own money

Except of course he has practically nothing to offer ...

I think this is what it's all about, he realises that once it's William V then he will fade into oblivion and he wants to get his/her nose into the trough before that. Whatever happened re Diana, I think that Charles is a very gentle, kind man who must be devastated by Harry's behaviour, especially the loss of his grandchildren, he sees William's children growing up and Camilla has her own grandchildren to whom they seem close, he must be very sad. I often wonder how Harry really feels now, does he regret what's happened, does he regret becoming a pawn in her search for world stardom? He's really between a rock and a hard place.

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/06/2026 13:42

I read something that suggested that a significant deciding factor in their leaving the WRF was when Meghan realised that eventually William would have the power to determine how much money they would receive. I doubt he'd be factoring in endless Dior haute couture or £50k dresses like the engagement shoot one.

H regrets nothing. Never will. He just never seems to self reflect and it's not just down to his odious wife.

I do wonder if at some point years ago when they were young (pre-teen) William said at some point 'Don't worry, we can share.'

Then, growing up, he realised they couldn't (due to all the legal restrictions on the Duchy) but Harry never quite grew up enough to accept this; and instead of making the most of it, and working out how to do the best he could in his (frankly, very privileged) position, he still had enough of the old resentment that he easily fell for Meghan's manipulations.

Only surmising, of course.

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/06/2026 13:53

There's a structural problem with the RF, which is that the titles don't come with money or property. So Harry is Duke of Sussex, and Archie will be eventually, but without any financial firepower to support it. If you look at the "civilian" dukes, e.g. Devonshire, Westminster, Norfolk, they generally have land and wealth going back generations. The newer royal ones have none of that - if they're in the WRF they tend to live in RF properties (Gloucester, Kent, Edinburgh, formerly York).

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/06/2026 12:42

It's been attended by Trudeau of Canada, Steinmeier of Germany and of course Zelenskyy, MrsLF. The fly in the ointment with this next one, of course, is that the Head of State just happens to be his father, with all that goes with that

If Charles fails to mark the games I've not the least doubt Harry will carry on something alarming, but he does that anyway and with plenty of other veterans' causes available dad might do better to focus his attentions elsewhere

Hopefully they'll have the Defence Minister and a royal representing the King rather than the actual King.

To answer another poster, the reason they have a one year to go event is because it's such a minor sporting event they need to keep reminding people it exists.

I'm not convinced on this. Only because I spend time on here and read loads of threads about how grandparents just aren't that interested. Also it is harder to miss what you never had.
