Hello I thought I'd start a thread where we can build up the excitement for tomorrow 😂

I'm enjoying the English Country/ family vibe I'm getting from the setting and wedding prep.

Fox Gloves in the flowers 💕

I'm looking forward to seeing Harriet's dress, she's a very attractive women, but the flowers are always of special interst to me.

Who do we think will be bridesmaids? Peters P's and Harriet's daughters presumably? Zara's kids?

I read that Philip and Zara have a half sister who will be attending, I didn't kow about her!

I also read that Peters first wedding to Autumn was sold to Hello and criticised for this. Very tacky. It looks like he's learned and is not cashing in this time, so hopefully we'll get a good look at evryone.

I hope I am expressing myself properly because I really like Princess Anne and of course she doesn’t have to care about fashion.

But she didn’t look smart yesterday for a big event. She has plenty of help so it seems a shame

Just looked back at a photo of Princess Anne and I too think the navy gloves, shoes and bag looked a bit odd especially for a spring/summer wedding.
I get that she's not interested in clothes and admire that she doesn't feel pushed into fashionable things that she may not be comfortable in, but the navy was an odd and (given the shoes, bag, gloves and even umbrella all matched) a very deliberate choice.
She could have picked another colour from her skirt if she didn't want to be too yellow.
Maybe the rain caught everyone by surprise and she only had a navy umbrella so tried to make it fit in more by altering some accessories 🤔

TaoJing · Today 09:27

Her umbrella was olive.

Her umbrella was olive.

Fair enough.
I didn't look hard enough.
And just noticed someone in another post said her shoes were black.
Ah well.

PlentifulPeoniesPlease · Today 09:29

I liked the olive umbrella. Much nicer than the standard black (or clear plastic). Glad they rustled up a white one for bride and groom.

I didn’t think the 3 Girls looked happy or comfortable together at all for the pre wedding meeting.

I wonder how they are getting along in their private time? Will there be a MN’s post about who should share their bedroom/s ? (Lol).

re the dress, I thought Harriett would have worn a very smart suit in a pale colour. I’m not keen on white or veils for second weddings. I wore a Thai silk 2 piece with embroidery at mine (not that anyone asked)... 😉😉

Apparently they are friends in the real life and that’s how the parents met

Anyway here’s Anne rocking uniform swords and umbrellas. She was born to wear uniform.

Absolutely love everything about that clip - what a woman!
Passing over the umbrella was sheer class.

PinkMagpie · Today 09:32

Yes! She looks fantastic in that uniform

"Whatever happened to an inch or two below the knee?"

I think that has recently been seen as a bit out of fashion and frumpy. Though no doubt it will come in again.

I will cry but fat ugly tears when this day comes and I have my legs back on show. Even at my skinniest my legs are like tree trunks.

Looking at this article

https://www.townandcountrymag.com/style/fashion-trends/g32099332/princess-anne-repeat-outfits/

She must have a massive wardrobe, or rooms to keep it all in. She's not just recycling outfits from a couple of years ago, but from decades ago. I wonder if it's all catalogued and sorted into colours or categories. Spreadsheet maybe?

Princess Anne Loves This Red Coat

She may be the Princess Royal, but she is the queen of rewearing her clothes.

I do think a lot of people here have no idea how other demographics behave. Generally, for events like weddings, funerals, black tie, white tie and christenings, most people I know already have appropriate clothes to wear, so they are not going to be rushing out to the high street for the latest, immodest fast-fashion offering in polyester or viscose.

yeah that shows.
maybe “other demographic” should learn that one can purchase something which is not polyester and look like Isabelle de la Bruyere rather than a frumpy old women. There is a lot of room between these awful outfits and the Kardashians

LittleBearPad · Today 09:37

BlackRowan · Today 09:24

Fair enough but it’s an upper class wedding, they ALL have the resources to dress like Isabelle de la Bryuere who looked elegant and not too flashy. It’s like they choose not to.

She looked a bit glam for a country wedding.

I'm thinking the skirt is actually a dress and and the jacket & pashmina were because of the weather which would be removed at the reception. I don't like navy at all but I guess there meant to be contrasting to the yellow.

Can only imagine how hard it will be to blend the families - 3 teenage daughters with very different financial backgrounds will be quite challenging I would have thought.

Is it possible Peter is paying the school fees for his new step daughter? Not even sure it is definite she boards - I thought I read the girls met playing for their local hockey team?

They are not from different social backgrounds. They met through their children as they are friends. She already was at that school. Are you for real?
he would never marry someone from a different social background.

Peony1985 · Today 09:40

@LaMarschallin I think she likes navy and yellow as a traditional colour blend - she's worn it alot. I guess she thought everything goes with her bright dress.
I like the dress from the bit I saw peaking out too.
I think it's good she's not gone down the set piece look myself.

BlackRowan · Today 09:41

She looked elegant and a “bit glam” only because English country wedding style means something awful and frumpy as we can see

We’ll have to disagree.

BlackRowan · Today 09:44

Miranda65 · Today 08:42

Exactly this. I'm a bit surprised that I keep seeing the word "frumpy" (because I'm not sure exactly what that means). It's a traditional church wedding, which means respectful, comfortable, not outdoing the bride, not dressed to go clubbing! Also, perfectly normal not to buy a whole new outfit, especially as working Royals have so many hats and frocks for the day job!

Do you seriously think that anything other than these outfits is “like going clubbing”? Are British people so devoid of any style that you truly see just these two options?

LaMarschallin · Today 09:45

I like navy and yellow together myself; just wasn't keen on all the extra colours from her flowery skirt/dress and I thought the navy (particularly the leather gloves) was a bit heavy for the time of year. Although dressing against the season can be a thing.
She probably did shed the pashmina and jacket once inside or at the reception and maybe the navy/black shoes are her comfiest ones for dancing 💃

The wonderful thing about being a woman in your 70s is you really don't give a crap about other people's views on what you wear. It's great. One of the positives about aging.

Edited

I am convinced that Isabelle de la Bruyere’s outfit looked as good as if did because she has that “clothes horse” physique. Super slim and great posture. If I wore that I’d look like I’d come out in my dressing gown.

She was best in show for me.

In only slightly related news I was reading on Threads about an Italian wedding this weekend where the bride posted INCREDIBLY detailed rules about what to where. Down to shoes / bags. And had someone on the door to police it ….

Navy and yellow together great - I love that as combination.

It is when the black shoes entered the fray that things went wrong 🤣

Anne looks sensational in that uniform photo because everything matches. The photos of her in the red coat show her with black accessories that match and look good.

She doesn’t have to care about any of this but she has a lot of help. She looked a jumble yesterday

I'm similar age to Anne. I've got arthritis in my hands and people probably think I wear heavier gloves than I need but hands getting cold, or even worse wet and cold, means lots of pain.
