@IcedPurple This I agree with -" Harry had absolutely no idea what an amazing deal he had as 'spare'. No idea at all.
As for Meghan, in a sense she's got what she always dreamed of. But comparison is the thief of joy and being the "poor" neighbour must rankle a tad."
I suspect H doesn't mind about the house being a wee bit run down. I suspect M , when they bought it , thought "I've arrived" . I don't know. But it does look awfully dull to me living half way up a hill in a neighbourhood where most people will have gates to the house , so unless you really join in with the community , what local friends do you have ( and I don't count Oprah in those ) . A lot of those people will have second homes and won't be there all the time. Now for all I know H is a stalwart of the polo club ( do they have one ) and they're both on the PTA & one of them secretary for the local residents' association ( yes I'm joking there ) and they have found a community , not sure I'd bet on it.
I'm genuinely not chippy because I honestly don't envy that kind of house - though the vegetable / herb / flower beds look lovely. Ask me if I'd like the equivalent of $14m to spend on a house of my choosing - well , I wouldn't say no 😊But I wouldn't swap. . However , my taste / opinion isn't everyone's - so if that's what they want - good luck to them. I do think they've got themselves into the foothills of Montecito wealth / lifestyle. But isn't the saying , buy the worst house in the best area you can afford. After being able to rub shoulders with the truly rich , though , I do wonder if this is why M seems so very fixated on more and more money.
