It will really sting that Harry and George were mentioned in the speech but not Harry - shows that Harry and Meghan are not inner circle royals

They must be fuming that William and Kate's wedding anniversary picture on Instagram has got 300,000+ likes in an hour

I wonder if we will get a full view of Archie next week on his birthday as a clapback

Edited

it only got 300k likes because it had the kids in it. i can guarantee i wouldn't have had as much without them. You can see the difference in view with photos on their oages with and without - kids are the big wins...

if H&M want likes - they have to release just one tiny photo of the kids faces and it will "blow up" the internet.

I agree with @noonames and @BigAnne I'm sure they will justify it as taking a principled stand.
But that isn't how soft diplomacy works. You have to turn up and be with people you don't agree with and maybe don't like. Didn't the Queen not want to host the State visit by the Ceausescus in '78? It was controversial at the time. But she did it , even if she did end up hiding in a bush to avoid him at one point. 😂

Missing the point entirely, but QEII really could wear any colour!

Look at the difference in likes when its the kids (or QEII)

It varies depending on subject matter.

The photo ahead of the state banquet in December had 1.2 million likes.

Well yes there's always an "exception". but the kids are the main source of likes....

Swing shot from 2020 has 2.4 million.. the kids clapping 2millions... Charlotte in her dark blue shirt for birthdays ...1.5 and 1.7m, Louis with rainbow paint hands 1.6m, rolling round on the grass 1.4m. All more than the state banquet one.

the kids are the draw <shrug>

and i would bet a million pounds that a photo of Archie and Lilibet facing the camera would reach milllions of likes to - proably more than G, C and L!

bluegreygreen · 29/04/2026 14:55

You said it only got 300k likes because it had the kids in it

I was pointing out the inaccuracy.

Is it a contest?

themessygarden · 29/04/2026 15:15

The more important metric on Instagram is views rather than likes. Catherine and William get millions of views.

There is a reason Meghan now hides her views and likes on Instagram, it was a slow decline in views before she hid them.

For sure the first photo of A&L will generate a lot of interest, exactly why they are managing the images of their kids.

People don't seem to pay attention when William and Kate are out doing their day-to-day work visiting charities, factories, community centres and the military etc.

People like the "big days" of birthdays, anniversaries and banquets etc - and especially the big tiara events - there were 300K likes for the Nigerian State Banquet, 1.2 million for the German State Dinner, 1.3 million for the Trump banquet and 400+K for the Royal Variety Performance, - all without the kids

But clearly people like the informal family photo that they put out on their wedding anniversary

The big tiara events regularly pull in over a million likes.

True, @Lunde - and often complain that they're 'workshy', despite the evidence of multiple engagements.

Because they don't actually do that many of them...

I admire W and C for putting their DC first . You only have to look at the latest photo to see they are a close , happy family .
When W becomes King ( probably soon) that’s it for life for him and C .
Unlike Harry , William does seem to have learned from his parents ‘ mistakes and is a much more involved parent.

Sometimes - but not always

Pictures a few times a year is better than regular appearances on the As Ever accounts - I'm pretty sure we've seen more of Archie and Lili so far this year - are they also fishing for instagram likes???

Well in the 6 days of April 23-28 they've done
Events for QE's 100th Birthday
ANZAC day memorial
Factory visit to Jaguar E-racing
Military visit to RAF in Wales (William looks really good in combats)

Obviously they haven't done any events while the King is in the US as the RF don't do engagements that conflict with major tours

No - but then again he probably does .... 🙄

Like him insulting the King last week but then whining in the press about not being invited to DC or NYC

Missing the point entirely, but QEII really could wear any colour!

Oh she could. And indeed she did. I thought the clearer , brighter colours suited her the most , and for public appearances she did seem to eschew browns / greys etc (which I think was a good idea) . I think the pearls helped , because there was usually a bit of a soft break between the outfit and her face and in latter years the white hair , so a strong colour , dress or hat wasn't right up to her skin (if I've explained that at all well )

He can only ever be known as this now💜

Yes you've explained it perfectly. I watch Trinny Woodhall's channel, and she recommends the "break" between outfit and skin, especially if you want to wear a difficult colour for your complexion. That picture of her in fuchsia is quite lovely.

I think the William/George mention was a clear reference to the continuity of the line of monarchs in history, and obviously important in that context, but I suspect Harry wouldn't see it like that.

Agreed - George was referencing the previous Kings just as much as the potential next but one.

It wasn’t as though he mentioned Charlottesville or St. Louis

I agree , he could have gone on to - well any number of towns called Charlotte and St Louis , but yes it was direct line. I also can imagine that would have been seen as another slight. I don't know. But it wouldn't surprise me because
I cannot be more surprised than I am that someone born into such priviledge could turn it into a pity party.

"To whom much is given , much is expected" . I think H is falling below (at least my ) expectations.
