Here we go, another article about that 'quiet faith' that has been completely silent until now!

As one of the btl comments suggests, is there some rebranding going on???

Surely not!

I think if you are the head of the church, attending regularly would be very, very bare minimum.

Honestly, I think it's fine that he doesn't seem to believe in God or have a faith. But I think it needs an honest conversation, not just pretending he's been all "quiet" about it. Where's his actual conscience?

But that’s the stupid thing about hereditary roles. He didn’t choose this, none of them did. They all want to keep the roles and the money, so even before conception, a child’s destiny is determined. It is unthinkable that a monarch or heir apparent will say “my children will decide their future for themselves”.

The monarch and heirs don’t decide to be head of the CoE, it’s decided for them whatever they believe or don’t believe.

The children of people on MN have more self determination.

It seems to be hypocrisy all round.

I don't disagree with any of that, but I do think some honesty is needed.

His recently statements have all been very carefully worded to avoid stating that he actually has a personal Christian faith.

There is a debate about whether you have to "believe" anything of course, because his role is effectively a non-Exec Chair of the CofE, but I think what's irksome is that this reflects William's wider lack of persona/passion about almost any aspect of his role/s.

But he isn’t head of the church yet. And how do you know he doesn’t attend church? We don’t see photos of them in their day to day life and have really no idea what they are or are not doing.

We have a good idea of what they are doing and not doing, because their diaries are largely public knowledge, what with us paying for them and all.

It's well known they don't attend church. And if they did, they would definitely say - and make sure they were photographed - as it would get them out of their current pickle.

I bet good money they will be photographed in church and in the papers in the next week...

Yeah, what happens if W&C prefer Buddhism, or are like the ever increasing number of people who dont subscribe to the notion of an old white dude in the sky fending off the other old horned ?red? dude underground.

Religion is personal. Good on William for not dragging his family to church services if he doesn't believe. That would be hypocritical.

Goldfsh · 26/03/2026 16:42

Do you really think that William, as future supreme leader of the CofE, wouldn't attend church if this meant anything to him? Or ever make a statement around his role as defender of the Faith, particularly at times of personal crises? What kind of leader would say NOTHING for years?

But you don't know this... you seem to have little understanding of how religion features and even changes in a person's life at the different stages and ages of their life and how someone may vocalise or not. There is no one way to be " faithful" or " a believer" - you seem to think that your way of worship is the only way. That kind of thinking has and continues to lead to many troubles.

Charles was very into Buddhism, and spoke about this very thoughtfully and passionately.

The point is, it's part of the job. If you don't want that part of the job, that's a different conversation.

It's nothing to do with being faithful or a believer.

It's to do with leadership. Which I ain't seeing.

corblimeyguvnr · 26/03/2026 16:30

Does he not do this? As bemused said is it all about appearance? Do people HAVE to attend to be a Christian? There are many Holy Willies in Church for show - it can mean nothing.

He's going to be head of the church!!!

He's not "people".

But you said earlier he had shown no faith so obviously it drives you to your " unchristian rage" ....

As for leadership - as yet he isn't the leader and indeed did Jesus not say that physical location of worship is not relevant? Do you know better than Jesus?

Their private diaries are not public and we actually know very little about their private lives (as it should be).

It is very possible that as he has faced personal hardship his spiritual life has shifted and become more defined. But frankly it’s not for me or us to judge. He shows up for religious events like the one yesterday as his role demands and that’s fine.

As for the princess of wales talking about the healing power of nature. That feels very spiritual to me.

The Gavin Ashenden who can't make up whether he wants to be an evangelical, Catholic or Anglican ? The one who criticises Islam and homosexual marriages and is a regular on GB News? That one? 🙄

Edited

One of my favorite conspiracy theories is that the King is actually a Muslim…..

It’s interesting, by the way, that Kensington Palace’s latest PR person is Lisa Ravenscroft-whose expertise is crisis coms…

Well, TBH if William genuinely believed this, and was therefore campaigning for the divestiture of the churches of the CofE, I'd be very impressed.

I don't see why it's relevant: it's the content of the article that I thought was spot-on and expresses what a lot of people will be feeling.

Crisis comms is probably a good expertise to have right now.

Yes " going to be" .

When you are born into a role, you can't really piss about for 70 years until you take over. You need to show some sort of leadership, even if it's only thought leadership.

Do you really think William is remotely showing leadership in any area (compared to Charles for example?)?

I already said earlier that this comparison is baseless - perhaps read all the posts .

I'm not sure your posts have offered anything constructive in terms of why you think William is handling this leadership role well? Or do you just think it's okay not to offer much while he's the man-in-waiting?
