Here we go, another article about that 'quiet faith' that has been completely silent until now!

As one of the btl comments suggests, is there some rebranding going on???

Surely not!

I don't think you are @simpsonthecat. Why are you answering for her? She said it . Not you.

Not that you are the thread police but I am well aware that whichever poster attacking me got me mixed up with another poster . I didn’t bother correcting her as that would no doubt be another derail accusation

Just as I didn’t report Jeffgoldblum’s rule breaking personal attacks. I’m not bothered by that sort of thing- I’m well used to royalists casting around for a shred of an argument, failing and trying to chase me away .

Andrew is always relevant to any mention of the Windsors and in any aspect.

⬆️ This!
AMW is affecting every single aspect of our Monarchy, uncomfortable though that may be for some!
He is still under investigation by Thames Valley Police and possibly also the Met. The Yorks have caused a fracture and a crisis within the British Monarchy so, of course, can be discussed on a Royal board

If W was a true Christian, or was pretending to be, should he forgive AMW?

corblimeyguvnr · 06/04/2026 18:14

Methinks you are trying to pick an argument with anyone who has a different opinion to you! 🤣

No need to @ me, I have a quiet day and will catch up with this thread when I fancy, I have notifications turned off anyway so never see them 👍😊

I'm certainly not trying to catch your attention. I was pointing out something that you said to someone else who didn't seem to even realise she hadn't said it 😂

What on the garbled piece of word salad is this? 😂😂😂
Why are you telling me about some other poster ? 🤷‍♀️ I don't care 😂😂😂

Ukisgaslit · 06/04/2026 18:56

Actually @corblimeyguvnr you were the poster who made the mistake

You claimed I mocked the coronation ( I did) by describing hairy chests and oil ( I didn’t )

As I said , I didn’t bother correcting the poster - only realised it was you by reading back .
So what . I don’t care .

I do care about taxpayers paying millions for a pantomime to make William head of church he probably doesn’t believe in.
I do care about what the Windsors knew about Epstein and when.
I do care about which Windsors have taken money and gifts in kind from Epstein associates.

I hope that’s clear enough for you .

I wonder if there would be public opposition to a lavish state funeral and coronation were Charles to die in the coming months. I’m finding IRL that a few people who were always on the fence about monarchy are now leaning anti, and I wonder if it’s the norm.

I think there would be. Far more so than when E2 died and C was riding a wave of goodwill on her reputation just a few short years ago.

I always thought the wheels would come off after her death but I didn't really expect it to happen as quickly as it has although a lot has obviously been driven by the MW scandal.

Apart from that I don't think many are going to forget the greedy skims the Duchies are still creaming from public bodies and charities, the wholesale renting of palatial properties on the cheap or be gulled by W justifying increasingly rare public appearances via his tame journos all while the SG spirals ever upwards.

They aren't value for money. Even my 85+ DM, previously staunchly supportive has been persuaded. Sadly I can't shift DH who apparently must be contrary just because 🙄👹

Re funerals and coronations - I think we are in a weird transitional time.

We have had the longest period ever between two monarch funeral / coronations.

And the most recent Coronations have been the only two to take place in the television age.

And we are in a period of time where life in general is less ceremonial and tradition bound.

Now that can go either way in terms of Royal events - they tone down to be more like the rest of the population, or they are encouraged to put on the pomp and circumstance for nostalgia and entertainment.

I think they’ll be some sort of middle ground.

Prince Phillip’s Covid funeral is not a bad starting point (just with more guests filling the whole chapel. Just one short parade within the Windsor castle grounds, military represented, family walk together. Enough room to invite representatives from all walks of life and overseas guests.

And combine the two separate ceremonies the late Queen had into one, ending in the lowering of the coffin.

Security costs will be lower than trying to police London.

simpsonthecat · 06/04/2026 21:02

I think there is so much they could do to change when Charles goes but I am not sure that William and Kate will.

I agree.

And would add that the times and personalities involved also play into the two rituals.

QE2 was of a generation that was brought up believing (or having to pretend to in order not to be thought an atheist and lose their job/friends/community respect).

KC3 - during QE2's rule, he had no choice but to go along with what she expected of him, with regard to the God- thing. God knows that he believes and why he thought it such a good idea to do all those daft coronation rituals when the Christian general population has moved on in terms of what it believes. But he is old - he got away with it.

But if W goes the mystic Christian woo-woo stuff, I think he will get ridicule. He needs to find a way to tell the C of E - I'm not doing that, especially if he actually wants to modernise. I hope he will.

Biblical forgiveness usually requires repentance to come first.

How odd. I was going to @ you Simpson but you're not showing on the list of posters currently. Do you have another name here ?

I am posting so obviously if there's a list on this thread, I'm on it! Not sure what you are actually trying to say 😳
I am not a sock puppet if that's what you are inferring?
@simpsonthecat
There! ⬆️ I've done it myself to myself so I am there all present and correct. 🫡

But there's really no need, I catch up on threads when it suits me, not when I've been @ed (if that makes sense!)

Biblical forgiveness usually requires repentance to come first.

As a Christian you ( i. e. humans, not God) can forgive without first requiring repentance.

"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do".

BemusedAmerican · 07/04/2026 02:24

William has quiet faith, he is not a saint. I suspect that a saint would have trouble forgiving Andrew.

"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do".

"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do".

That was what the Lord said on the cross.

The closest a person can get to that is probably Stephen when martyred
'Lord, lay not this sin to their charge'.

I think, as a person, you can have an attitude of forgiveness, and be ready to forgive, but I do think actual forgiveness is a transaction, with repentance on the other side.

bluegreygreen · 07/04/2026 10:59

The main passage where Jesus teaches about forgiveness is Matthew chapter 18.

People tend to focus on the pivot verse, where Peter is told to forgive his brother 'seventy times seven' times.
The section before that deals with someone who refuses to repent. The section after that talks about someone who refuses to forgive someone who has repented.

Edit: sorry, very off topic now

Aur0raAustralis · 07/04/2026 23:30

Andrew's transgressions (to use a mild word) aren't against William though. I would argue it's not William's place to forgive or not forgive his uncle. That's for the victims to do.

bluegreygreen · 08/04/2026 09:01

That's another good point (I thought I'd gone on enough!)

I was thinking exactly this- but I couldn’t think how to say it! Thank you.

I predict that anti Monarchist protesting will become bolder, more visible and loud.

There was a lot of deference and respect for QE2 so that didn't happen much during her reign. But I don't think the current King, nice and all that he appears, commands the same adulation, respect, whatever you want to call it.

We'll see.

I think people who are " into" this may feel this way but I would wager the vast majority of people really don't care. People are too obsessed with their own life , pay the bills, the price of petrol, their kids, what holidays they can afford. They are interested what they see as directly affecting that and that to them is the current Government. Joe Public is very self absorbed. The republicans are a bit like that weirdo in my village who shoves the The Light through the letterboxes. In their own groups they feel validated but real life tends to be very different.

I’m a republican and I tend to agree with corbliney. I think that many are apathetic.

I do not think that an expensive funeral and coronation will be welcomed though.
