The royal family

Royals attending high profile events - business as usual or tone deaf?

Over the past week Charles has been at London Fashion Week, Kate at the rugby and her and William at the BAFTAS. They may have attended other things, I don't know.

These are all very high profile events. the sort of thing my late mum would've described as 'glitzy' so I suppose not the less glam outings, or charity events.
In light of the fact no official statement has gone out from the BP, do you think it's appropriate they're still attending this sort of thing, or it's a bit tone deaf considering the conversations happening about the future of the monarchy, how much Charles already knew about Andrew etc?

If they didn’t attend, they’d be accused of ‘hiding away’.

Hilllbillbilly · 23/02/2026 09:30

It’s typical of the royals, head down business as usual.

Mischance · 23/02/2026 09:30

They were committed to attend so they went. What do you want them to do? - let everyone down? It is all part of their duties.

PistachioTiramisu · 23/02/2026 09:32

I think they are absolutely right to carry on with pre-arranged events. Think about the people who organised these events and were probably very pleased to secure a royal visitor. They have done nothing wrong at all so why wouldn't they carry on as normal? Princess Anne visited a crisp factory last week, so that was hardly 'glam'!! I sympathise with W&K having to attend the BAFTAs - what a desperately boring evening for them - such a non-event.

Hoolahoophop · 23/02/2026 09:33

I think generally they are invited to the events they attend.

So If they are uninvited they should stay at home, and the hosts should make a point of giving a reason why the invitation was retracted.

I think if they are not uninvited they should continue to attend the events they have committed to.

Wonderfulequipment · 23/02/2026 09:33

There have been statements?

Yukal · 23/02/2026 09:33

theyre doing their job, if they didn’t people would also complain

Miranda65 · 23/02/2026 09:33

Business as usual, which is absolutely what they should be doing. There is no need for them to hide away.

Denim4ever · 23/02/2026 09:33

Of course they should attend, it's presumably an official engagement. Additionally, the King has said/done all the right things in relation to the issue over recent weeks.

The rest of us would have to carry on if a family member was arrested so why would they be different?

Because they are different - the Royal Family.

A 5 line statement from King Charles, which addresses only Andrew's arrest.

No problem with this.

maskymask · 23/02/2026 09:44

I think not attending the Bafta’s would raise questions but maybe they could fit in more charity work & less glitz. Although they will get criticised for that for being calculating but it might bring some joy to those in hospital etc as someone said on another thread.

They are in a lose lose situation though as a lot of the public want more transparency and openness and Andrew has highlighted that. The Royals won’t want that though & the status quo is to ignore.

VanCleefArpels · 23/02/2026 09:47

Why do so many people appear to take the view that KC3 and William are somehow responsible for AMW actions or should in some way atone for his misdeeds? There’s no evidence that the King knew anything about recent revelations (indeed it’s been reported he advised against AMW getting the trade role at the outset). There’s no evidence they had a close brotherly relationship - unlikely given what we know of their interests and character. William was a teenager when all this was going on - why on earth would he be seen as involved in any way?? It’s completely pathetic to argue they should let down the people and organisations that will have spent many weeks organising visits.

None of us are our brother’s keeper and all that .

YourBreezyPanda · 23/02/2026 09:47

why should they hide? they know they rule over a nation of serfs programmed to worship them whatever they do.

What would you rather he said?

Topbobble · 23/02/2026 09:50

We all know full well that they would be criticised either way by people who dislike them and will use any excuse to bash them. If they didnt attend the same people moaning now would be asking why they feel they need to hide away.

maskymask · 23/02/2026 09:52

I remember reading about shady financials regarding A as a tween/teen (I’m a few yrs younger than W). There is no way family didn’t see his lifestyle and have questions.

PollyBell · 23/02/2026 09:54

They do events they should be hidden away
The hide away they should be out doing events

People will complain whatever they do

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/02/2026 09:55

As this is the only ‘work’ they actually do, I think they should keep doing it. If anything they should be higher profile, not lower, so us plebs see how indispensable they are… (they are not).

lindabysteven · 23/02/2026 09:55

TBH - I don't really know and I do actually find the money spent on jewels, frocks and palaces a bit distasteful anyway.

DSis thinks it's fine and think BAU is definitely the right way for them to go about things.

Like it or not, people will be looking forward to their visits and will have done a lot of work to prepare. Letting them down would be unfair.

Well, KCIII apparently loaned AMW £4M of the 12M he paid to Virginia Guiffre. I wouldn't lend my sibling money to buy the silence of someone they 'never met" for something they 'didn't do'. I'd have a lot of questions that they were even asking for the money, & why.

Bertiebiscuit · 23/02/2026 10:00

Tone deaf as always, these pointless leeches in their ludicrously expensive clothes, rubbing it in to us poor cash strapped plebs how sweet life is if you never have to pay for anything. "off with their heads" 🤣🤣
