The royal family

Royals attending high profile events - business as usual or tone deaf?

lindabysteven · 23/02/2026 09:29

Over the past week Charles has been at London Fashion Week, Kate at the rugby and her and William at the BAFTAS. They may have attended other things, I don't know.

These are all very high profile events. the sort of thing my late mum would've described as 'glitzy' so I suppose not the less glam outings, or charity events.
In light of the fact no official statement has gone out from the BP, do you think it's appropriate they're still attending this sort of thing, or it's a bit tone deaf considering the conversations happening about the future of the monarchy, how much Charles already knew about Andrew etc?

If you don’t have a problem with my posts and understand I am stating my personal beliefs why are you replying to me about facts?

You don’t need to answer 😆

Would you expect the future Queen to rock up in primarni?

No, of course not but there is lots of middle ground and wearing a dress twice doesn't mean a thing. She should be wearing all of her dresses on multiple occasions.

There is so much obfuscation on this thread. Royalists going to Royal I guess!

VanCleefArpels · 23/02/2026 12:16

maskymask · 23/02/2026 12:04

@VanCleefArpels why would you need to read someone’s emails to know things seemed shady?

I have never read Harvey Weinstein emails or met him but I certainly knew all the rumours about his conduct from various press articles over the years. Do you think people close to him had never heard rumours?

Because the focus of current investigations are emails in which he forwarded confidential info to JE and others - none of which the King or anyone else could possibly have known about at the time. Again, being sleazy is not in itself a crime, and no sex related charges have yet been made against AMW

Badbadbunny · 23/02/2026 12:16

The organisers and attendees of such events would be really pissed off if the royals cancelled their attendance. For a lot of events, it's the presence of a royal that drives attendance/visitor numbers.

Brightlittlecanary · 23/02/2026 12:21

I can’t work out why you think they should start cancelling events to self reflect, they didn’t commit the potential crimes, and at the time of them were powerless to stop anything, the queen was in the seat. Charles has acted, he now can’t interfere in the legal process, like anyone else’s brother or nephew can’t.

of course they should continue as usual not all stay at home and naval gaze.

Do you really think people would drop out of the BAFTAs or the Rugby if the royals dropped out?

My point is these aren't charity events, they're very high profile 'showbiz' events. I think the optics are really off, but according to this thread I am very much in the minority.

actually I think you’re jealous.

Because @CurlewKate was claiming as a fact that William and Charles were complicit in Andrew’s crimes and you joined in the conversation.

I'm really not. I am many things in life but jealous of the royals is not one of them.

The King has gone as far as he can do given that AMW is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation. If AMW is convicted then would be the time to say more but this may be some time off. Anything he says now could impact on the right to fair trial.

Applecup · 23/02/2026 12:31

I think that when the Queen was alive it would have been very hard for Charles or William to overrule her on the subject of Andrew. Since she has died they have both had other serious worries with the King and Catherine being diagnosed with cancer and Harry's shenanigans. I don't suppose dealing with Andrew was top of their list at that time. But that probably isn't what you want to hear. Fortunately most people feel they should be cut some slack.

ShanghaiDiva · 23/02/2026 12:32

Business as usual- as per the last line of KC’s statement.

Brightlittlecanary · 23/02/2026 12:34

Also what he’s been arrested for is historic crimes, he stopped being trade envoy in 2011, which was 12 years ago. Blaming the current royal family and arguing they should stay home and self reflect is bizzare.

I think you’re jealous of them going to glitzy events.

Tiddlywinky · 23/02/2026 12:35

Of course they should carry on with their engagements. I wouldn't get time off from work if my brother had been arrested, why should they?

Believe it or not, I do attend a few myself.

Is that wise? , surely you should pull out and self reflect.

lindabysteven · 23/02/2026 09:55

TBH - I don't really know and I do actually find the money spent on jewels, frocks and palaces a bit distasteful anyway.

DSis thinks it's fine and think BAU is definitely the right way for them to go about things.

The Princess of Wales wasn't wearing anything new

user1492757084 · 23/02/2026 12:49

They are right to keep commitments to support events.

They were not arrested and they are not responsible for Andrew's poor judgement.

gototogo · 23/02/2026 12:53

The organisers were expecting them, if they cancelled you would be posting that they were hiding away. Whilst the full extent of what they know is not yet known, I do not think William and Catherine are in any way complicit and Charles was pretty limited as he wasn’t king, the only person who definitely protected him was his mother, the late queen.

derxa · 23/02/2026 12:55

lindabysteven · 23/02/2026 10:07

Exactly.

While it's not their fault how their uncle has acted they could start to do / attend events that maybe showed there was some self reflection within the family as a whole.

Don’t be ridiculous. You want them paraded around wearing sack cloth and ashes.

gototogo · 23/02/2026 12:56

And by the way, anyone speaking to the media whilst there’s an ongoing investigation could be held in contempt of court. Even discussing it online is not without issues. The law is strict to enable fair trials
