Think who would it suit or benefit the most if we had no royal family?

Although I'm not a fan of the royal family & AMW makes me feel sick.

The common denominator is the institutional cover-ups and the collusion of government(s). That’s some serious abuse of power.

But happy to move it to a suggested existing thread if needed. Or perhaps a new one is warranted?

I agree. Harry and AMW were beloved members of the RF at the time of these allegations, and it was institutionally covered up. It's a massive coincidence that the 2 people who are now ostracised ( neither of whom are ostracised because of anything the RF did- one because he flounced off and one because of the actions of Virginia Guiffre and the US Congress) are suddenly the only ones who had bad behaviour covered up. The ' What about Harry?' crowd ignore the fact that he is a member of the RF. They hade him. It's not an either/or. He and AMW have only exposed the extent to which the whole RF are cosseted and protected by everyone .

TheAutumnCrow · 24/03/2026 07:23

In fact, the list of royals getting away with shitty behaviour and having it glossed over / quietly ‘dealt with’ is a long one, and that’s regarding just the stuff that we DO know.

God knows what is sitting behind the cover-ups.

Most critics on this thread have argued for more scrutiny of the RF because it's unlikely we will get rid of them anytime soon, and the ' President Blair' distraction always gets used. Scrutiny should be happening as part of a functioning democracy but hasn't been. Something that has been taken advantage of to the full by the RF. Making sure they are held accountable by the press and more importantly Parliament and aren't subject to special rules doesn't means an end to the Monarchy. Unless of course it's not actually ' duty' that's keeping them there but their endless ability to rinse the taxpayer while doing whatever they like with no pushback and enormous power to exempt themselves from laws they don't like, including industrial scale tax avoidance.

simpsonthecat · 24/03/2026 08:53

So agree. As the ex Head of Royal Protection said... 'there is no oversight whatsoever'.

I’m struck by how the PH / Afghanistan mumblings have not been deleted by MNHQ - as they were ruthless and never saw the light of day a few years ago…..

All too believable now..

Also if you google, you’ll find plenty of open discussion on Quora and Reddit.

@simpsonthecat

Totally agree with that statement. There is not one single member of the RF who has ever been subject to scrutiny of any kind until Virginia Guiffre put her life on the line when she accused AMW of using her for sex. That was the beginning of the crumbling of the edifice that we can see happening now.

And today the Sun is reporting that Edward and Sophie have been renting out a stable block in Bagshot Hall for £130,000 per annum and they have kept the money. It never stops.

Frustratingly enough I have been saying this for years and linking to the rather uninspiring looking office space in question for years.

Space was originally Ardent HQ and Ed charged his own company to rent it. The only year Ardent made a profit was the year he waived the rent.

He rents Bagshot for around £90k a year which means he can cover this with a nice little sum over.

As you say it never ends.

ThePoshUns · 24/03/2026 11:35

That’s appalling.

VictorianChic · 24/03/2026 12:44

Is it a massive shock that Eddie and his wife have their snouts in the trough as well though… the whole lousy family is at it.

bluegreygreen · 24/03/2026 12:48

I haven't seen the article.

Presumably it includes the most relevant fact - whether the lease contract allows subletting?

The lease contract will say whatever the RF wants it to say. £90,000.00 rent for a 120 room property you can’t make it up. I think the royalists should give up trying to defend their idols you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Gonefishingithink · 24/03/2026 13:30

Absolutely disgusting. I’ve gone from being mildly interested in them to really very anti monarchist.

The only unbelievable part of Edward's role is many royal supporters describing them as normal or boring or unpreposessing or a safe pair of hands etc etc

Of course not, but if it is allowed in their lease they have done nothing wrong, and it will be someone else's fault for allowing it to be allowed, no doubt.

Hide in plain sight...isn't that what criminals do, to never splash the cash don't show off and especially don't draw attention....

I am finding it so hard to understand how anyone can still be a Royalist now that we know Virginia wasn't lying. That their was a statement made calling her a liar saying it was not true and smearing her in the public eye. Yet no apology? How can anyone still defend them or the institution? How can we have Camilla and Sophie championing charities of abuse victims and they stay silent on this matter, I would of have had far more respect if they had spoken up about this particular matter.

I think that many people are indifferent to the royals to be honest, or against them.

Those oddballs who line the streets for them and watch them go to church on Christmas Day are different. They’re the “Royalists” I suppose. I don’t know anyone like that myself but it’s a harmless little hobby.

Ukisgaslit · 24/03/2026 15:49

@TravellingSomewhere

Exactly

Look at what royalists are supporting. Look at the history of abuse and cover up .

I see that Anne is now being questioned about what she knew and when by the public. Good . Ask the same question every time a Windsor appears .

It’s not harmless because they’re propping up the whole system.

Ukisgaslit · 24/03/2026 15:53

Really there are few crowds .
People under 50 are not interested.
That fact is covered up by bussing in school children ( I think that’s disgraceful) or doing ‘surprise’ visits

I remain convinced that they know they are not popular . If the Windsors thought there was any chance they’d win a referendum they’d have one .
