I know what you're getting at but I think the optics matter in this case. And I think it would mean something to the victims.

It might but the only thing I imagine would really matter is him being charged with those crimes. I just hope that the whole line of succession activities are not just to placate the public.

@Lalgarhgood one! I immediately thought spider web

Great web graphic in the DM today. I find the discussion around removing AMW from the line of succession to be largely performative. It’s very unlikely that the seven or eight ahead of him would suddenly vapourize.

It would only take a terrorist atrocity at a major event he was excluded from but that Harry and children had also turned up for. Eg Charles's funeral if Andrew was in prison at the time.

I agree with @Isabella70 here. Yes it is highly unlikely that 8th in line would take over . But I think it would send a powerful message. It's almost damned if they do damned if they don't in some ways. Personally I would like to see him removed . It won't be quick though because as I understand it they have to get agreement from Commonwealth countries.

See I don't understand this. They seem to be able to do things quickly if they want like patronages, titles, military for Andrew

Surely it's just a tick box YES or NO for the commonwealth countries. I don't imagine any of them hold Andrew in their affections!

NewAgeNewMe · 21/02/2026 18:07

Someone was on the news, where it was said it took 2 years (!) to agree with all commonwealth, change of line of succession, to be on first born not eldest male.

simpsonthecat · 21/02/2026 18:08

Good lord wot a palaver

NoDrums · 21/02/2026 18:50

Commonwealth countries don’t care one bit about who is the monarch, who’s in line of succession. That time has passed. At best, it’s an article in a newspaper that some might read. But there, much like here, people aren’t invested as much anymore, as that same generation 75+ are the OG Royalists. The younger gen are far more concerned with topical issues that directly affect them.

So it goes back to the changing the line of succession being a waste of time.

I’ve just read that Ferguson may have been questioned by police and may flip on AMW in exchange for immunity. It’s not confirmed but that would be something, if true!

Any delays in signing would purely be due to red tape and beauracracy and nothing more

I can tell you in my Commonwealth country, no one even knows who anyone is in the RF except Charles, Camilla and Harry and Meghan.

The entire family can all disappear today and no one here would care. The disinterest actually surprises me, even as an anti-monarchist. I have not heard a single mention of Andrew's arrest and my various circles are all well-read, well-educated and very much informed people. No one cares.

Same. My mother, grandmother, die-hard royalists. My mom always read everything to do with William, Katherine and their children. Always on top of what Harry and Meghan were up to. And so on. Both were highly educated professional career women but the RF was their weak spot.

I never felt the same and was mostly disinterested and sometimes irritated by the RF. Currently Gen Z? As you say @PumpkinPieAlibi, no-one is remotely interested beyond a cursory glance at a headline. The politicians aren’t either.

Edit: I’m in the UK so neck-deep in all the Royal goings on now!

Exactly!

Here we are!

My mum is a republican, I’m still a constitutional monarchist (not sure for how much longer), and my mum Is enjoying the fall from grace.

I do believe it is not a tick yes or no from Commonwealth countries. And those countries may not give a flying hoot about the RF. But there may be more to legally removing Andrew from LoS than it first appears. I'm not an expert but I think Commonwealth countries have a say in legal removal of things like this. Look , I'm not arguing with people who don't care about AMW's legal status and I fully admit I don't know the whole process. I personally would like him to removed legally from Los and being a councillor of state. If I were in the Navy I think I'd like his remaining ( technically - will never be used methinks) title of Commander removed. But I am sure there is process which hs to be gone through which I don't know the ins and outs of.

You'd think but I did see speculation that some might try to use any such request as a bargaining tool to further their own interests .or gain concessions. How accurate that might be is anyone's guess.

Really though it seems like an awful lot of palaver that simply wouldn't arise if we weren't in thrall to a feudal hereditary system.

BoxingHare · 21/02/2026 19:38

I think it's important to have him removed from the list of councillors of state. And if he has to be removed from the line of succession in order for that to happen, so be it.

It doesn't matter if it takes time and effort because he'd still be a CoS when William is monarch, and I don't think that would be accepted. So the process may as well start now.

I thought that was Kate and Zara who were sniggering?

It was Camilla. It seemed she couldn’t stop sniggering. She was sat beside Kate and kept sniggering and whispering to her. Kate looked disgusted.

Ukisgaslit · 22/02/2026 12:49

PumpkinPieAlibi · 19/02/2026 13:27

While that is true, it's a moot point either way. It doesn't matter if it's Republic or Joe Public who demanded this - the point I was trying to make was that it was NOT the RF who handed Andrew over.

Quite frankly, I am cynical enough to think this plays perfectly into the RF's hands. Andrew is arrested on, relatively speaking, the less offensive charges, it gives the impression that the RF are not above the law, it also forces the media to quiet speculation so as not to influence current ongoing legal proceedings and eventually, it all dies down and the RF can say 'see? we did what we were supposed to.'

It's obvious they knew of all this before the news came to light. William's hiring of a crisis manager was very likely in anticipation of this.

Sorry - deleting as replying to wrong post

That’s not true . Kate was smirking along with the rest of them . I think she was sitting beside Andrew in fact but I’d need to check that.

I saw another royalist claim Andrew wasn’t at William and Kate’s wedding . Also untrue . Andrew was there along with his daughters.

Changedname9999 · 22/02/2026 12:52

It is true. I remember it very clearly. Maybe look it up again for yourself.

They have resisted so far as doing so will put an end to the ‘it’s too complicated to remove them’ lie
Start with Andrew and keep going .

Changedname9999 · 22/02/2026 12:53

Queen Camilla could bearly control herself from laughing and she kept whispering to Kate who was looking very uncomfortable. Surely quite easy to check?

Ukisgaslit · 22/02/2026 13:00

Tiresome back and forth @Changedname9999 -
Look it up yourself . The tabloids described it as ‘ a fit of the giggles’ . I have no doubt that Camilla was openly rude as I’ve seen that many times but Kate was laughing - she put her head down .
