I've wouldn't like to guess why Thames Valley Police decided to arrest AMW on his birthday, but if not for tactical reasons it can probably be assumed whoever authorised the arrest thought it would be an appropriate birthday present for him.

Knowing police forces, I suspect it was more that the planning for the operation was well advanced when someone realised it was his birthday (if indeed they even did - it’s perfectly possible that was not something anyone considered!), and then they would have asked themselves whether the coincidence of the dates was a good reason for not proceeding as planned. Clearly, the answer would be no, and so they went ahead with the operation as planned.

Exactly - I’m sure they don’t take into account birthdays when arresting other people - would be odd if it came out either way that Andrew was being treated differently - whether that was doing or not doing it because of the birthday.

It is a nice detail though.

I don't think it means much. He was arrested, as far as i understand it, so the police could search his house and gather his files etc They probably need to analyse what they found before they proceed any further.

This is true. I saw an interview with a former senior Met officer who said that even arresting him in the first place was telling in itself and likely meant that they already had pretty strong evidence.

NoDrums · 19/02/2026 19:51

The financial crimes were committed years ago so I highly doubt they’d find anything pertinent in either of his homes. Either way I understand that’s the process.

The woman talking about the RF on Sky (India?) is showing exactly the sort of fawning that has got this country into this current mess. It’s just infuriating and nauseating to hear her going on about the RF continuing its vital work with boots on the ground and ‘serving’ the country.

I hope they investigate Beatrice and Eugenie and their mother as well, in terms of receiving bribes and handouts from Epstein and connected individuals.

Yes when is Sarah going to be hauled in for questioning! She’s just as culpable as Andrew.

I was just about to post this! 'Boots on the ground' is a total insulting thing to say about royals shaking hands with people.

Exactly. And being driven to London Fashion Week. Vital work.

He was known for his obnoxious nature and entitlement. His nickname in the navy was the Fat Knacker. There's plenty of people he's rubbed up against the wrong way

NoDrums · 19/02/2026 20:52

I find it hard to believe that anyone in the police knew when Andrew's birthday was. I think it's more likely it's a happy coincidence.

Given that he's known to be boorish and rude, I feel bad for the staff in Wood or Marsh farm who have to wait on him today.

This is like a 1980s soap opera, it’s quite funny. Seriously I wish Virginia had stayed alive to witness it but at least the other victims will know that this isn’t going to blow over any time soon .

how is that funny

That last point is depressing

AnnunciataM · 19/02/2026 22:09

Jeez, just seen a thread asking if anyone feels sorry for Andrew and 15% of responses say yes! I know it still means 85% don't feel sorry for him but I really thought that figure would be about 98/99%.

And people still wonder why women don't report sexual assault...

Odious, certainly. But she never had any official capacity, unlike her former husband and housemate.

She might be questioned as a witness in the current investigation.

I find it hard to believe with all her apparent emails and selling intros to Andrew that she hasn’t done something illegal .

Very predictable though. There’s no way he won’t be protected .

It is perfectly normal for a suspect in a complex case like this to be arrested and interviewed under caution while search warrants are executed. They are then released under police bail while the investigation continues. A charging decision may be weeks or months away (the police and CPS will want this to be bulletproof).
