Anyway Meghan is no longer a trad wife/jam maker but a hip cool indie film producer at Sundance. Keep up.

Isn't the film about selling Girl Scout Cookies - so tradwife tie-in

Lunde · 26/01/2026 21:18

AtIusvue · 26/01/2026 14:12

The doc is able how girls are exploited to sell these cookies( that bring in 800 million dollars in 6 weeks) the lengths that everybody goes to to make sales, the sacrifices low income families have to make to support their kids selling these cookies.

yet….megsy is selling it as a cutesy film and reminiscing about the fun times she had selling cookies. Makes zero sense.

Well it seems to tie into Meghan's As Ever - it sounds wholesome (like the jam) but selling factory produced, high UPH foods at ultra high prices using the unpaid labour of kids .... Basically child MLM

Wait is this meant to be based on fact? Selling 800 million dollars of cookies in six weeks?
I realise many Americans have a sweet tooth and love a cookie - at least the obesity epidemic would suggest so but that is A LOT of cookies.
How much does the occasional MacMillan bake sale make? They can only look on in awe at that sort of figure.

The kids don't make the cookies - they sell pre-packaged, factory cookies at huge mark ups

See this is why I think it is Netflixey.

It is a mainstay of American childhood (@BemusedAmerican feel free to challenge, but from a UK viewpoint it seems so) but it turns out it isn't a wholesome experience but rather a MLM that pits families against each other and damages those on lower income - had it been produced well I think it would be on Netflix.

Same as she does with her own kids for As Ever - privacy exploited without consent to make her $$$$$$

Atlanti · 27/01/2026 02:13

Excellent advert from Ireland about the dangers of “Sharenting” - how posting even minor details about your DC can be dangerous:

- YouTube

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

😂😂😂

So, we are now going to hold her personally responsible for the child exploitation done by the girl guides, in America, and selling (or is it dealing?) UPFs to the entire country.

Quite a feat from her and from you lot!

Soaring new heights here ladies!

Not at all, but merely pointing out the similarities between the exploitation of the Girl Guides in the pressures to sell these cookies, and the exploitation of influencers using their children on SM to sell their products.

No need to get excited.

I think Harry and Meghan are personally responsible for sharing information about their own children online, yes, which was @Atlanti’s point surely?

I also think that like their acquaintances the Beckhams, they are creating some kind of family brand around them all that ties in with their commercial ventures.

I think the long-term damage of ‘sharenting’, particularly for brand value and commercial gain, are now well known enough to be causing significant concern and will probably be the subject of government legislation in the UK eventually. What Harry and Meghan do in the US, however, could remain unregulated. But Harry is looking like a massive hypocrite (again).

And H&M don’t see the irony of promoting a film about the exploitation of young girls as ‘cute’?

Has either of them even indicated that they are aware that the film exposes the raw underbelly of using children in the world of corporate greed?

I am referring to H&M commodifying and exploiting without ther consent the personal details and images of their own DC to share publicly just to make money. You would expect a couple campaigning for SM restrictions for children due to the evidenced sometimes catastrophic harm would be more informed and pretext their own DC?

God the whole thing sounds ghastly - I had no idea this went on. And "Shannon Elizabeth, whose working class parents find themselves foregoing mortgage payments to pay for the boxes of cookies that their daughter then sells to benefit The Man." Foregoing mortgage payments so their daughter can sell cookies? WTF

I guess it's an American thing, so maybe the documentary will attract viewers there but it's certainly not something I would watch.

Noseyoldcow · 27/01/2026 11:46

Using kids to sell cookies, sausages, cheese or whatever else it is they get kids to flog as “fundraisers” but that ultimately benefit the manufacturers is exploitation, isn’t it? And filming said kids flogging said crap is yet further exploitation. How can this pair of grifters, so called champions of guarding child privacy, associate themselves with this? Because they are utter and absolute hypocrites, that’s why.

I didn't realize it was that extreme. I do know of stories where people felt pressured to buy cookies sold by their boss's kids. The parent brings the sign up for to work...

bluegreygreen · 27/01/2026 12:23

It does feel at a different level to UK Scouts/Guides fundraising

MrsFinkelstein · 27/01/2026 12:27

Did Meghan watch the film?
Sounds a bit like she's missed the point about these girls getting exploited, and just talking about how much fun she had selling them and how cute the film is.

It does make you wonder if they watched it, if this film is highlighting child exploitation why on earth are they endorsing it?

Sorry-I read the thread title and thought this was a thread for general RF PR disasters - and this is by any measure huge- not specific ones….. my mistake.
