The royal family

Why does Harry need to announce his visit to Canada ?

Mylovelygreendress · 04/11/2025 08:46

Harry has announced he will visit Canada for Invictus events .
The announcement is made while the POW is in Brazil undertaking important official business including representing KC at COP.
His spokesperson says the announcement had to be made at short notice for security reasons !
If this non working royal has security concerns , why announce it at all ?

He can announce what he likes as can his wife. The truth is that no one gives a flying f what they do. Of course people will want to see how Prince William is doing, his legacy after all he will be king

Have been reading more about Harry's activities.

He was spending time with the Canadian Army Reserves, specifically the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and the Royal Regiment of Canada, talking to them about balancing military and civilian life, staying connected to their communities etc.
He then watched demonstrations by different operational teams.

This feels a little uncomfortable to me, as it feels much more like an official 'working royal' engagement, rather than something associated with his veteran charities.

Happy to be told my discomfort is unreasonable (ideally with reasons) - it just seems potentially diplomatically tricky to me.

(For those interested in Royal jewellery - the Queen wore her Queen's Own Rifles of Canada brooch to the opening of the Canadian Parliament in May.)

💯 agree

I suspect the Canadians think he is pathetic.

Not the Canadians I know. I wouldn’t speak for a whole nation of people though. I suspect it’s like anything else. Some will like him, some won’t, and some won’t have an opinion either way.

Thank you !
As far as I can see no one has actually answered my question !! Hey ho ….

ReignofError answered your question. Top of page 3.

He really just needs to learn when to say nothing.

If he could I think things would turn around for him. Part of his problem is the constant need to make statements trying to correct the record but which only give the tabloids more fodder.

For the record I don't think he has overshadowed William. I suspect it's only the tabloids who are trying to suggest he has. I still maintain that it doesn't matter in terms of politics when he does these quasi royal tours because the people with power know that he has none so he can't upset the apple cart. If there is a danger if him doing so, as in the early days with Nigeria, then the government make it clear he is only representing himself.

I'm sure the charities he visited appreciated the publicity, as they do with any celebrity. But comparing visiting veterans to making a keynote speech at a globally important conference on behalf of a Head of State is just odd. There really is no comparison.

Totally agree, the media is pot-stirring as usual. I reckon most charities would be pleased to have the publicity generated by a visit from KC3's second son - he'll be chirpy and smiley and one of the lads. All good stuff.

He isn’t chirpy and smiley very often these days.

LaMarschallin · 07/11/2025 08:18

Firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it. Secondly, I was under duress. There wasn’t much choice,” said the prince, who explained he was invited to the game by the Dodgers’ owner. He says he thought wearing the team’s hat was “the polite thing to do.”

Under duress to wear a hat?
Who put him under duress - Meghan?
At least he didn't explain that sporting his little cap was the "honourable" thing to do, just the "polite" one 🙄

That’s utterly pathetic.

'Part of his problem is the constant need to make statements trying to correct the record which only give the tabloids more fodder.'

Gyles Brandreth is sometimes described as a friend of Prince Philip. I have heard him say that he wasn't exactly a friend but he talked to PP a lot at one time because he was writing a biography of him. After PP died there were many programmes on about him, and I heard GB talking about him. He, GB, said that he'd asked PP about the times when the press said things about him which he felt were unjust or knew to be untrue and PP said that if he spent his life correcting everything, or suing(?) the press he'd never be done with it. In effect, it would be a huge consumer of time and energy.

Have you ever been on a local committee which was mis-reported in the local paper? You can bang your head against a brick wall or you can let it roll off your back and say, "Bugger the paper".

bubzie · 06/11/2025 21:19

Only certain people allowed in though. Relatives are too dangerous.

WHAT??!!! Shock

Whoever's running this, or allowing Harry to, must be out of their minds. Hasn't it occurred to them that families are the very people who'll be supporting the vets when the spotlight isn't there and might just like seeing their success, or doesn't that matter?

If challenged I've no doubt there'd be some excuse about space available at the venue - in which case get a biigger bloody venue Hmm

I'm sure I read somewhere that Harry had simply mis-heard the name of that LA baseball team & believed he was showing support for The Todgers,

Screamingabdabz · 04/11/2025 09:00

I agree. He still thinks his presence is announcement-worthy. It isn’t.

Some people obviously think it is. But MNers can’t let a chance to have a pop at him go.

bluegreygreen · 07/11/2025 09:42

For the record I don't think he has overshadowed William.

I agree, and worded a previous post poorly.

By timing things as he does to coincide (every time), it looks like he is trying to overshadow William, and in this case by implication the King, as William is representing him at COP30.

Does he not realise this shows his status?

" available for purchase by anyone for the right amount of bucks"

In trying to explain it, he shows himself up.

StartupRepair · 07/11/2025 10:23

Now he will go back to LA and tell the Dodgers 'the Canadians made me say it'. They won't get invited to the game again after this.

Yes it’s disgusting isn’t it!
there is actual proof that the families of these elderly and vulnerable people ( it’s a care facility, many have dementia) were told they were not allowed to attend.
and the released pictures are basically of Harry and different veterans, the excuse about space is completely false because even with extreme close cropping the amount of space and empty seats is very clear!
this was purely Harry using these elderly men and women for pr for himself! 😡
who gave informed consent for these peoples photos to be shown publicly? They themselves are not in the position, their families were not there to give consent.
its just another example of Meghan and Harry using other people’s children and elderly families for their own benefit while refusing to use their own.

Choux · 07/11/2025 12:53

@bluegreygreen exactly. H&M act like some rival court to the King’s competing for attention. Sometime soon Harry will be a monarch’s sibling. If he wants any chance of reconciliation, it’s time to start behaving like Princess Anne and quietly working in the background when Charles or William are doing something global.

I think it’s too late now for reconciliation though. And Charles has set a precedent in using letters patent to remove his brother’s titles. It wouldn’t surprise me if William does a streamlining of the HRHs like Sweden did a few years ago and removes some titles and styles from the Sussexes, Yorks and Edinburghs. The Edinburghs won’t mind as they don’t use the prince and princess anyway. The Sussexes absolutely would mind.

bubzie · 07/11/2025 12:58

There will be no reconciliation. I would bet my last cent on that.
