The royal family

Why does Harry need to announce his visit to Canada ?

Mylovelygreendress · 04/11/2025 08:46

Harry has announced he will visit Canada for Invictus events .
The announcement is made while the POW is in Brazil undertaking important official business including representing KC at COP.
His spokesperson says the announcement had to be made at short notice for security reasons !
If this non working royal has security concerns , why announce it at all ?

Although I was lambasted by H and M fans for starting this post yesterday , I still don’t understand why someone who is obsessed with security announces his movements !!

It's very odd, isn't it. Publicity means security. Signposting my whereabouts makes me safe. Notifying the press ensures my privacy. I'd say it was almost Orwellian, but Harry probably thinks Orwell is a duck operated by Keith Harris.

Harry doesn’t seem to be very welcome in Canada, the comments on the X account of the local Toronto newspaper, about his upcoming Canada visit, are absolutely brutal, at least 95% of the comments are negative and most are really derogatory about him. It’s also the most commented on post 😀.

Seems Harry is not liked by a lot of people in Canada.

Is anyone surprised, Thedom? Canada's a very decent country who got his measure when they were expected to pay for his princely whims, and there's a reason why other fake "royal visits" have needed to be to countries where the leadership consists of people even shabbier than he is

Who would have thought a discussion forum relies on members to create a discussion?

Crazy isn’t it ? 🤷‍♀️

“why waste all that time worrying about the actions of someone you presumably have never met, when it has no impact on you at all?”

That’s rich😀😀😀 irony is lost on a lot of H&M supporters.

The influx of new names to this board recently have resurrected the tired old why do you care? trope. I think there is panic in the war room now they know William can do whatever he likes without going through parliament, probably on defcon 2, under severe threat 😂

I have been away from mn for awhile as I’ve been unwell but I can’t help but notice that there seems to be a recent trend in multiple posters trying to stop any discussion thats not about Andrew !
this is the rf topic and posters are allowed to start threads and discuss any members of the rf family they wish to .
if people don’t want to discuss a topic why storm onto a thread and attack posters that do?

No one is “attacking” anyone. Has it occurred to you that posters may be making this point legitimately, simply because it is a valid point to make?

And there we have it! When republicans make genuinely held points; certain monarchists always respond by questioning the legitimacy of whoever is making a point they dislike!

As has been pointed out time and time again on these boards; regular name changing is completely within Mumsnet guidelines. If you have a problem with that, please take it up with Mumsnet HQ.

Therefore, it’s fairly obvious to conclude, that just because someone has a new name, it doesn’t necessarily indicate that they are a new poster or a bot programmed by Republic UK! Or , for that matter, that their pov doesn’t hold weight.

Normal posters, long-standing or not, with genuine legitimate views that differ to your own, are also allowed to express them and post on the RF boards too, without their legitimacy being constantly questioned.

Snorlaxo · 05/11/2025 10:56

Was there speculation about whether or not he’d attend like the annual shenanigans about Christmas at Sandringham (Will he/they be invited and will he/they attend?)

Bring generous I assume that he doesn’t want anyone like the DM being able to say that they broke the news of his trip and posting “first pics” to prove it. I think that this is news that Invictus would want to announce but 🤷‍♀️

Crying with laughter at the idea that I'm some sort of William fan. I genuinely don't give a shit.

I'm also not new...

I just regularly see these threads on active on Mumsnet (I don't seek them out) and am always confused as to why people are so passionate about such minor issues. I really, really don't understand why someone saying they are traveling somewhere is causing so much angst 🤷🏼‍♀️

I just love the bit trying to excuse his blatant attempt to upstage William by claiming it’s because he doesn’t get the same level of security as “other working royals”.

The fact that he is not a working royal because he chose not to be has clearly escaped him. He seems to be implying here that as a private citizen undertaking a private visit overseas, nothing to do with UK interests and probably getting paid for it, he should have the same level of security as eg William representing the king and the UK at COP in Brazil. Funded by us. He thinks we should pay for his security whenever he fancies a trip somewhere. Otherwise he might be forced to announce things at inconvenient times for the RF.

Plenty of the others don’t get the higher level of security - none of the non working royals do and even Anne, Edward and co don’t when not on official business - but somehow they all manage not to a) moan about it all the time, b) announce everything that happens in their lives and c) summon Backgrid to capture it.

Harry’s particular combination of stupidity and entitlement is really something else. They must be so glad he’s gone.

First, as has been pointed out previously, this trip was planned months in advance so it was not intended to upstage anyone.

Second, it’s fairly obvious that Anne and Edward do not attract the same level of vitriol and threats as H&M. The same level of hatred hasn’t been stirred up against them globally, and nor do they have to contend with racist, right wing hatred, which is a growing threat.

Anything more recent than 3 years ago ?
Also , maybe you could say why the trip had to be announced ?

But they do! How many times have people said ‘well what about Andrew then …’ or ‘why aren’t you interested in Andrew he’s far worse …’ there’s even a thread about more vitriol to Meghan than Andrew
H&M are constantly promoting themselves, almost all of which is pathetic and well worth a Winge / comment on their lies / mis truths / generally blowing up their own arses to try to make people think they’re amazing … we all know they’re 🤡🤡

Don’t see it that way myself! People have different perspectives. I don’t think there is anything particularly bad about wanting to support charities when you don’t actually have to anymore. Rather the reverse.

Proportionately, if we are just going on the seriousness of misdemeanours, there definitely should be far more posts about Andrew. And yet …

There's a small group of regular posters who try to shut down any discussion about the wider role of the royal family by drowning it out with droning on and on about M&H and being just rude enough that anyone with a different view won't come back. On this thread I've been called dishonest, incapable of understanding, and so on. Nothing worth reporting but I can think of more fun uses of my time than putting up with crap from strangers.
I would be interested to know whether it's a conscious attempt to stifle discussion or whether the regulars here are honestly just that obsessed with M&H.

Well said. I’ve experienced exactly the same EllesmereP

Fwiw, just my opinion, but it definitely comes across as strategic to me.

Canada is the nearest Commonwealth country he can get to in order to play the royal over Remembrance weekend, which is always an important ceremonial and commemorative event for the head of state as leader of the armed forces. It's all about his ego.

I have to agree with this. He's hanging on to the coat tails of the RF while his grip is loosening.

^^Good point..

As for Remembrance Tide, not a term I've heard before.

It appears to be a 21st Century invention, or at least not in common useage until maybe twenty years ago and as @BeeWitchy says it seems to be associated with the church.

It's elevating Remembrance 😂🙄

I don’t recall a time where Anne or Edward lied and moaned about their lot in life. Harry and Megan are now infamous and the vast majority take neither seriously and they are just laughed at with their latest attempts at relevancy.

I think this is the point - the more Harry does the more pathetic he looks. He just can't stay away from the life he walked away from. He's like those people who can't stop an affair in Relationships.

Agreed. He made the choice with little or no real understanding of what it actually meant to walk away. A more intelligent considered person would have kept the doors open to go back should the new way of life not work out but he went for the scorched earth tactic which has meant he has no options and has clearly run out of ideas to keep himself relevant.

Valid points are not - why do you care? Don't you have a life? How sad are you? You have never met this person... blah blah. I'm not interested in all the Andrew threads littering the Board so I don't go on them and ask things like this. That's the difference.
