The royal family

Why does Harry need to announce his visit to Canada ?

Mylovelygreendress · 04/11/2025 08:46

Harry has announced he will visit Canada for Invictus events .
The announcement is made while the POW is in Brazil undertaking important official business including representing KC at COP.
His spokesperson says the announcement had to be made at short notice for security reasons !
If this non working royal has security concerns , why announce it at all ?

Why would they? If we decided on a Republic the Windsor's would simply be a very rich private family.

And we'd be left with yet more regular elections for a new Head of State we'd have to pay for and be left with rich, privileged power hungry leaders.

Why wouldn't they if they genuinely believe they're the best option for the job?

And if we still end up with a rich, privileged, power hungry HoS what changes other than a forensic focus on transparency, accountability and the rather desirable option to get rid after a fixed term?

That would be nice but honestly where is the transparency with our current or past government? Starmer hired Mandleson after he was briefed about his Epstein connections! 😡

Well TBF he also fired him.

Took the royals 15 plus very reluctant years to fire Randy.

Does every country send its Prime Minisiter AND its Head of State to COP?

Harry is a private citizen, let him at it.

POW on the other hand is a figurehead (so we're told) and has no input into laws or policies on climate change, and shouldn't have either. That's what we're told. So why is he there? Then again reps of the fossil fuel industry will be there, so why not him I suppose, one in, all in.

And as for COP, well the Brazilians had to cut down a swathe of the Amazon rainforest to make a road in to the conference zone for the delegates. That's nice.

All good points.

We vote for our politicians already - have you missed this?

And I genuinely have to pmsl at the quaint notion of "The public could choose who was worthy to serve as our representatives, maybe by a vote? That would stop unsuitable characters sneaking through by accident of birth.". Feck me - if the GBP had to vote for a Head of State instead of having the Royal Family - I can guarantee we would have a President Farage within 5yrs.

Why not do as some of the commonwealth countries do? Although they have Charles as head of State, his representative is now appointed by the government (no longer appointed by the monarch) and often serves for many years through multiple changes of government. And can be dismissed by them too. It seems to work well.

Just take the monarch out of the equation and there’s no change. A HoS does not have to be elected by the people. They can be appointed by the government which has been elected by the people.

Theres more than one choice for the republican model. Up until now I would have chosen a monarchy simply because it seemed to be working well enough and in these unstable times I thought what we know might be better than what we don’t know.

But given what’s unfolding with the Royal Family - abuses of position of power could not be fully known, so not able to be investigated by the authorized government officials, and therefore was not stopped. That’s a very big worry.

Mandelson should have been political kryptonite many, many years ago. Why did Starmer appoint him in the first place? Could it be because Mandy knows where all the bodies are buried? There's a bit of a difference between a corrupt spin doctor weaseling his way back in to an unelected position of power, and a family not being able to deal with a rogue family member, especially when he's the head of state's favourite child (for reasons I can never fathom).

True but it’s becoming a pattern with no balls starmer !
how many times is he going to express confidence and nothing to see hear with his party members then sack them when he realises it’s a bad look and very unpopular with voters?
I’d have more respect if he at least stuck to his guns.

Harry doesn’t seem to be very welcome in Canada, the comments on the X account of the local Toronto newspaper, about his upcoming Canada visit, are absolutely brutal, at least 95% of the comments are negative and most are really derogatory about him. It’s also the most commented on post 😀.

Seems Harry is not liked by a lot of people in Canada.

Well they were up in arms about paying for his security 5 years ago , I can’t imagine they have had much reason to warm up to him since!

Canada is the nearest Commonwealth country he can get to in order to play the royal over Remembrance weekend, which is always an important ceremonial and commemorative event for the head of state as leader of the armed forces. It's all about his ego.

I believe he’s calling it remembrancetide now ! Or at least that’s what the press release said ( apologies for spelling I’ve never heard the term before)

Remembrance tide is the period immediately preceding Remembrance Day. I think it’s associated with the church, so perhaps it’s a church service.

I found this an interesting perspective from a Canadian “America didn’t abolish the monarchy, they privatised it”

^^Good point..

As for Remembrance Tide, not a term I've heard before.

It appears to be a 21st Century invention, or at least not in common useage until maybe twenty years ago and as @BeeWitchy says it seems to be associated with the church.

JSMill · 05/11/2025 07:28

It’s interesting that he is going alone and M is not accompanying him on his pseudo royal tour. But

So he felt the need to issue a statement, 🤔🤔 they must be feeling quite uncomfortable now that the writing is on the wall. He still had to get a mention iabout his security though, he and his PR are so transparent, pretty useless.

JellyBabiesmunch · 05/11/2025 08:02

He’s not visiting in his capacity as a member of the Royal family. He’s a private citizen. He doesn’t need to announce his whereabouts at all.

Mylovelygreendress · 05/11/2025 08:27

Although I was lambasted by H and M fans for starting this post yesterday , I still don’t understand why someone who is obsessed with security announces his movements !!

I just love the bit trying to excuse his blatant attempt to upstage William by claiming it’s because he doesn’t get the same level of security as “other working royals”.

The fact that he is not a working royal because he chose not to be has clearly escaped him. He seems to be implying here that as a private citizen undertaking a private visit overseas, nothing to do with UK interests and probably getting paid for it, he should have the same level of security as eg William representing the king and the UK at COP in Brazil. Funded by us. He thinks we should pay for his security whenever he fancies a trip somewhere. Otherwise he might be forced to announce things at inconvenient times for the RF.

Plenty of the others don’t get the higher level of security - none of the non working royals do and even Anne, Edward and co don’t when not on official business - but somehow they all manage not to a) moan about it all the time, b) announce everything that happens in their lives and c) summon Backgrid to capture it.

Harry’s particular combination of stupidity and entitlement is really something else. They must be so glad he’s gone.

Does it impact you in any way whatsoever? Seriously, why is it so important to you that you've taken time out of your day to post a number of comments about.

Please, explain it to me. Why waste all that time worrying about the actions of someone you presumably have never met, when it has no impact on you at all?

I mean, I could understand if he had gone out and committed a crime. But all he has done has said he is going somewhere. Who the f**k cares?

Mylovelygreendress · 05/11/2025 09:50

Not sure if you realise this is a discussion board ? And I will post as often as I wish .
As for the repeated “ who cares” , you clearly care enough to seek out this thread and comment !
Not worried in the slightest .
Enjoy your day .

Is this exactly what you are doing right now with the OP. I could ask you these exact same questions…
