I thought I’d start a new thread as the previous one is full!

Here’s the first thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_royal_family/5429027-andrew-to-lose-duke-of-york-title?page=1

Various of the news items I watched quoted directly from the statement issued about focusing on the Vatican visit and not other matters

I've tried to find reference to it but it's all about the actual visit now.

It really annoyed me, and seemed like a directive to tell people what they should be thinking about.

Same. I’m equally happy with the historic trappings of monarchy, it’s not like they were all purchased yesterday. I really wish someone would crack on and deal with Andrew properly, this is currently distracting from the inquiry into grooming gangs.

But it's all the same thing isn't it?

Grooming gangs in the north of England, a grooming network in Florida... it's all the same, men abusing and pimping underage girls. Survivors speaking out and struggling to be heard

Shetlands · 23/10/2025 13:43

If Charles were a stronger character he'd have told Andrew long ago that he had to volunteer to speak with the FBI and tell them everything he knew about Epstein and Maxwell. If Andrew refused then Charles should have told him the alternative was the loss of his Dukedom (via parliament) his HRH and Prince (via letters patent). Instead, we have Andrew calling the shots and refusing to assist the FBI with enquiries while his daughter Eugenie promotes herself as an anti-slavery campaigner! It's ludicrous and Charles needs a rocket up his shirt (yes I know he's ill but not too ill to still be king and show some leadership).

The release about refocusing on the King was a reflection on the press rather than the monarch. They'd rather focus on scandal than faith.

Agree - though did find it a bit of a PR mis-step to point it out.

(Listened to the podcast last night - agreed with your thoughts re the two viewpoints. Did agree with the journalist that the message would have been better as a BP press release, though)

Absolutely. I can't believe that the palace let that entitled idiot release his own statement. Anyone could have predicted he would refuse to apologise or show any concern but instead paint himself as the model of duty and service. When it is going to occur to him that no one sees him like that.

The palace PR really need to learn from "Recollections may vary" and stop giving Andrew agency in these matters.

I also agreed with the podcast that asking people to focus on the King rather shows that they know they have lost the PR initiative at the moment.

I winced during the coronation when it was said TLQ cypher E11R would need unpicking on official robes/uniforms and replaced with CR111 with gold thread, my fingers bleed just thinking about it. Especially as it may not be finished before having to unpick again for William. Ouch. Sorry to derail.

Another way to look at it is to see it as a way of keeping old crafts going. There can't be many who require that sort of embroidery.

MrsLeonFarrell · 23/10/2025 15:01

How does Charles make Andrew speak with the FBI? I don't think the titles is a sufficient that when his liberty is at stake.

He could invite FBI to interview A in the safety of Windsor on crown land where he has protection. It's not like they will try to kidnap him and fly him to Gitmo. If I was A I wouldn't be popping into Langley for a chat but I would have no problem at a place of safety with a top barrister and assurances if I had nothing to hide.

That would be a way to do it but i wonder if Andrew would cooperate. I can't decide whether he is afraid of someone or simply too arrogant to consider it.

The "suggestion" around what we should concern ourselves with came via the BBC, @upinaballoon, which being funded by a government-mandated licence fee is clearly subject to their interference

I'm aware of course of their claims of "independence", but since when was something whose income is controlled by government truly independent?

They did all right with the Maitlis interview that brought Andrew down initially.

bluegreygreen · 23/10/2025 17:17

It was originally a Panorama programme, and it was only when Andrew was asked for a response to the allegations being put forward on that programme that he said he would do an interview instead.

I wonder if he has since regretted that decision?

Does the FBI still want to interview him? I thought they had shelved the investigation.

I think they have under Trump so we will have to wait to see what happens when he leaves office.

bluegreygreen · 23/10/2025 17:24

Andrew could still offer, of course - might stir things up a bit and put some pressure on across the water

Of course - let's imagine he's innocent (as he categorically insists). He'd have been making statements about being disgusted to find out his friend was a sex abuser. As stories unfolded, he'd have been making supportive comments to the women (and all victims) while continuing to let it be publicly known he'd help any investigations as much as possible. He'd have insisted he'd never had sex with Virginia, she must be mistaking him for someone else and he'd go to court to prove it.

Instead, he gets his Mummy to fork out £12 million quid to stop a woman he's never met from accusing of something he never did. Plus, he's emailing his convicted sex offender friend saying 'we're both in this together' and 'we'll play again soon'.

He's a lying snake isn't he - no doubt about that!

The interesting thing is that there’s an argument that the late Queen made that payment in the face of insistence from Andrew that he wanted to fight the charges in court and he was furious when he was told it wasn’t happening. QE/the men in grey suits wanted all the furore closed down before the Jubilee. Anyway there’s a rumour that he’s going to leave the country now (undoubtedly bankrolled by one of his wealthy mates) so we can just forget he exists.

The visit to the Pope is pretty historic so I can understand his frustration. At this point the press are really going round in circles with nothing very new being said. I feel it's up to the government to act now.

Perhaps the RF will learn something - that KC3 is out of touch if he thinks many people are that interested in him meeting the Pope and doesn't realise that many people are very interested in the Adrew situ; and that issuing statements hoping that what he's up to and considers important won't be overshadowed by what's going on elsewhere is so Last Monarch.

Middlemarch123 · 23/10/2025 20:55

I think it’s quite insulting to us plebs, you know the ones who pay taxes to think that saying your prayers is enough to side track us from what’s really happening. Might have washed in the late Queen’s day. Not now. Are they really that deluded and dense?

ThePoshUns · 23/10/2025 20:59

Apparently he already owns a palace in the Middle East that’s was gifted by one of his cronies out there. God know how/ why but to be honest if him, his ex and his daughters all fuck off there together, happy days.

Rhaidimiddim · 23/10/2025 21:03

binkie163 · 23/10/2025 11:49

I understand that but reporting on it is sufficient, personally I find it distasteful of KC to want to be SEEN and wanting all the headlines for it but as I said I got out the wrong side of the bed today.
I grimace at H&M constantly pushing for headlines, the king should be above chasing the popularity competition. His stroppy I want the headlines not A it should be beneath him, obviously it isn't.
ETS. And yet they made TLQ entertain Adams & McGuiness who were involved in Mountbattens death, that was outrageous.

Edited

I agree with you entirely that the Press and the populance decide for themselve these days what they are interested in. Gone are the days when, if the Monarch was doing it, it was Important and got the headline regardless of whether it was visiting a war zone or getting an ingrowing toenail removed.

Ss for the Ireland thing, the Queen's predecessors saw off a lot of Irish people in nasty ways over the centuries, so I think both parties to that meeting were swallowing a lot for the sake of future peace. Far more relevant than praying ( what for, I wonder?) with the Pope.

Newscast talked about the book this week. At no point did anyone mention the lack of other names. The longer this goes on the more peculiar I am finding it that only Andrew is being mentioned.

I’m increasingly uncomfortable with this. He’s clearly culpable but why is he the fall guy?

Tiredofbullsit · 24/10/2025 01:58

binkie163 · 23/10/2025 08:53

Feeling a bit annoyed at KC this morning, BBC banging on about his visit more important than the A allegations. I will decide if I am remotely interested in KC praying with the pope FFS. For me, praying is personal and private, it is not a public spectacle done for attention. So NO I do not give a feck, I am not interested thank you.

It brings to mind how petulant KC was about Diana getting all the adulation he was really spiteful about it. A man his age wanting all the attention is just pathetic. Jealousy runs deep in the men in that family, they have everything handed to them on a plate but it isn't enough, they still manage to complain and dictate! Charles, Andrew and Harry really are the bitter end poncing around thinking they have star power demanding attention.
I think I got out of bed on the wrong side today.

I think you did!

Why wouldn’t the King want this historic occasion to be recognised?!He’a always stood for reconciliation between religions and his debauched rent a prince idiot brother is overshadowing him! I would be pissed off too!

ThePoshUns · 24/10/2025 07:32

Well if Charles had taken a stronger stance sooner then he would be front page and not his brother. He’s had plenty of time.
