Splitting hairs. Surrendering the use of them better for you?

There's a big difference. He is not using them. He still retains them.

TheNightingalesStarling · 17/10/2025 19:45

Is he still a Counsellor of State... thats a bigger issue than some robes really.

canklesmctacotits · 17/10/2025 19:45

Yes it’s left unclear: is “in abeyance” royal speak for “stripped”? I suppose when you’re talking about hundreds of years of titles never being owned, just embodied in this person or that, “in abeyance” could mean “removed from this person”.

Or it could mean “he still has it, it’s just suspended”, like a kid suspended from school is still technically a student of that school.

He remains a Prince but the BBC article said he would "cease to be" the Duke of York. It may seem trivial to us but I don't think it is to him.

Then the BBC are wrong.

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 19:46

The BBC news said he had given up the title. It could only be removed from him by an act of parliament so he had to give it up. He is no longer The Duke of York. There is dwindling some face saving being allowed in his statement but the facts are he isn't HRH, he isn't a royal Duke and he isn't a Knight if the Garter anymore.

Nothing is in abeyance. He has not been stripped of anything.

I wonder if Prince William had a hand in this. There have been rumours going back to the early 2010s that William doesn't have a great relationship with the Yorks.

the woman he had a relationship was 17,which doesnt make him a paedophile. also who knows how much of the book is true shes dead so she cant be questioned'when are the other friends of Jeffs going t have their lives ruined?

He didn't have a relationship with her, she was a victim of trafficking

He is still an HRH. He has not given up the title.

Knight of the Garter is not clear yet.

But his title has not gone. He's just not going to use it.

I think 'in abeyance' is a bit more than just not going to use his titles.

notacooldad · 17/10/2025 19:41

soupyspoon I couldnt care less if someone is an 'adulterer'
Neither do I.
I dont have an interest in the Royal family on the whole, but I don't think 'her moments' as it was referred to are that bad compared to some one who was to become a King and with all the responsibilities it entails.

He didnt break any laws thats what I meant. I dont mind him or her but someones sex life is no ones business

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/10/2025 19:47

The BBC, which I've turned on to see what is happening, is talking about pressure being put on him to voluntarily give the titles up. So yes he had to do it but they basically made him.

Sorry what?

These were poor women and girls abused by disgusting perverts/paedophiles.

He didn't have "a relationship" with her. He fucked her after she was trafficked by convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and convicted child sex offender Ghillane Maxwell.

Zeroinon · 17/10/2025 19:48

Well I'm glad to hear that, thanks for reporting on that OP.
I don't go out of my way to read up on the royals, and I think this demotion of title that Andrew has carried, and Sarah Ferguson as well , for a long time, should be a well deserved humiliation for them both

Yes. Exactly. His title is not in abeyance, because he still has it.

JJWT · 17/10/2025 19:48

I think it's a protective move designed to distance the core of the family from him and therefore protect the monarchy. I get the feeling the sh** hasn't all hit the fan yet in terms of his past. If there's more scandal to come I imagine they want as much distance as possible.

Sorry that was in response to someone asking what does this mean. Not got the hang of replying!!

Ihateboris · 17/10/2025 19:49

Would someone like to take this over from me? I have to make some food 😆

Well said. Not just Virginia but all those girls. Not just that situation but all abused girls. As a SA survivor myself I'm going to raise a glass to this news. THANK YOU Virginia x

You are absolutely right. I’ll join you x

He hasn't been stripped, he was pressured to give them up voluntarily, according to the BBC I don't really care about the mechanics to be honest I'm just glad it happened. It's a really big thing as far as he is concerned.

I couldn't care less what consenting adults get up to in their sex life, but presumably certain standards of conduct are expected of the head of the church?

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/10/2025 19:50

How interesting. Place marking to read later. I'm also going to go nuts and attempt a bookmark and maybe even that will work, who knows?

HE HAS NOT GIVEN UP HIS TITLES

Published 17 October 2025

In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.
