Andrew to lose Duke of York title

News banner from the Torygraph saying Andrew and Sarah are losing their titles. They will be ‘put into Abeyance’ Andrew also to lose the Order of the Garter. Sarah will be known as Sarah Ferguson, he retains ‘Prince’ as he is the son of HM QE2.

As he wasn't a working royal there wasn't much else they could do. I think mostly this is something that will matter to Andrew rather than anyone else. Since no one can apparently prosecute him at least he's lost the titles. It isn't enough but they have removed something from the person they matter most to.

I agree it's window dressing but window dressing sometimes is important however trivial in the grand scheme of things. The BBC is being really very interesting about the impact of this.

What a horrible, horrible man - this is not before time. Although I can imagine Meghan on the phone right now, wondering if she can be the next DoY!

Speculation from an expert on the beeb was that they threatened him and the trade off was that the daughters will still be in the fold if he does this.

I agree, I think there will be sweeping changes when William is King, l think he will completely restructure the titles.

So let me get this right... daughters can still be called Princesses.
Sarah (ex wife of 30 years) can't sell any more books under the title Duchess of York (70 under her belt for that)
And Andrew? He will not 'use' his Duke of York title but he will retain the Dukedom because it can only be removed by an Act of Parliament.

There might be skeletons in all the RF's closets, and Andrew might just know where they are. Hence the optics of the garbled press reports that make it LOOK like he has been stripped of everything, but smoke and mirrors.

I disagree. They left as working royals but they haven't behaved like Andrew.

I think the pay off may well be being allowed to continue residence in the ridiculously oversized gaffe without the 'C3's gunning to evict' sabre rattling.

I think, because he only had girls, it will revert to the crown on his death if he hasn't formally given it up (and he may have done that going by the BBC). I doubt it will see the light of day again.

I think looking to be decisive and stern (while not actually doing much in practice) will matter greatly to C3 and his PR.
