The royal family

Is Meghan a narcissist?

Clbs · 28/09/2025 08:20

I keep seeing these reels and social media smears on Meghan being a narcissist and abusive partner to Harry. She certainly doesn't seem overly popular with the royal family or understood the expectations of her as a royal when she married him.

I'm by no means a royalist or a fan of Megan's. But I'm the same age as Harry so always felt I could relate a little to him. I haven't read his book or watched the netflix docs.

The main thing that doesn't sit quite right for me is they wanted a 'private life' and then done anything but. Did Megan use Harry's desire for privacy to isolate him from his family and friends?

I think she is a fame hungry, money grabbing grifter who was shrewd enough to grab herself an emotionally weak, mentally ill royal and the rest is history

That just about sums it up !

What a load of shit

At least elaborate on how my post was a load of shit.

There must haven been a reason Meghan was called out as a bully within a few months of marrying into the RF. What came afterwards only seemed to reiterate it.

Makes you wonder if the kids not having any relationship with Charles and their cousins is Harry's choice. Same as their other grandfather has never met them or even Harry!

SpottyAardvark · 29/09/2025 12:12

You make an excellent point about the pecking order.

Markle thought she would become the shining new A list star of the RF. She thought her celebrity would enhance their status. Wrong. Because she didn’t understand the reality of the pecking order. She didn’t understand that she would never outshine Catherine, no matter how much media coverage she got because C will be Queen. She didn’t understand that her own place in the pecking order will inevitably decline when W&C’s children grow up. Because that’s how the monarchy works. She thought she would become the new Diana, but when she realised that her actual role was to be the new Fergie her ego couldn’t handle that so she decided to get out.

The bonkers part of threads like this is how people post things like this as if they’re stating facts when it’s all just made up bollocks. No one knows what she was or is thinking.

Some people clearly have their own royal family reality running in their heads and they merge that with reality.

Yes-I find that baffling too. Unless people have access to sources of information us ordinary mortals don’t…..

How do you square that they are known lies?

I believe that she was cold shouldered and shunned by certain key figures because she was not the wife they would have chosen for Harry. I believe they had a preconceived belief about her and treated her with disdain

Do you have any evidence for that? There is evidence that she is a liar - for example she was caught out lying to the court and had to apologise.

No. It’s my belief based on my perception of Kate and how flinty and cold she appears to be towards Meghan

I don’t pretend to have any idea of what the dynamic between Meghan and Kate was behind the scenes.

What I do know is that just months after Meghan’s relationship with Harry became public a story was passed to one of Meghan’s Toronto social circle, Elaine Lui, who runs the website LaineyGossip, that snooty Kate had refused to give her a lift to the shops when Meghan was the new royal girlfriend staying with Harry at Kensington palace.

At the time Elaine Lui worked with Ben Mulroney, Meghan's then very close friend Jessica Mulroney's husband - they were co-hosts on a tv show called e-talk and they were all in the same circle (there's a photo of them all out at a big dinner together, for example). The overwhelming likelihood was that this story came directly from Meghan (it also appeared later in Omid Scobie’s book Finding Freedom - for which Meghan contributed notes, remember).

I can’t imagine that Harry’s new girlfriend giving Toronto gossip sites stories about mean-girl Kate would endear her in the slightest to her boyfriend’s sister-in-law who is known to guard her privacy closely. It would justify keeping her at arms’ length for fear of what else she might say about you (with hindsight, a very sensible approach).

Yes I understand that - I’m just wondering what you base your inference on and which on occasions you picked up the flintiness and coldness. I am not challenging it, just wondering what makes you think that.

I remember that Catherine was much less easy in front of the cameras than Meghan, understandably enough. No idea whether she was flinty and cold-she was certainly much stiffer. They are both excellent with people on walkabouts and things like that. Meghan is better in more formal “interview” type situations, like the early days when it looked as if they were going to be able to work together on projects….

Neither Frogmore Cottage nor the UK Ambassador to South Africa's residence was up to scratch for M, a former renter of a modest home in Toronto.

To paraphrase the late QE2, M was far too grand for the House of Windsor.

Don't forget that a wing in the Gov Gen's official residence in Sydney, Admiralty House was not sufficient for accomodation. She wanted the whole mansion.

That was very long.
You could have just said that there is a story that once Kate didn’t given Megan a lift to the shops.

With no background or repeats that doesn’t mean much.
Do you always give people lifts when they ask?

The point of the story isn’t the lift to the shops, it’s how the story of the lift to the shops got into the public domain.

Given the number of posters who insist that nobody can know anything they haven’t directly witnessed, Serenster gave the full
background.

But you can take a horse to water, and all that!

Yes. She wasn’t born with connections and
money. She had had to work for everything she has. I don’t like her as a person but I understand her. The British aristocracy hate that she has married in. However, Harry was given a hovel to live in when he was with Megan and the workers cottage he was later leased was decrepit and he had to fix up using his own money.

Where on earth did you get this rubbish from?

I’ve just spent a while looking and can’t find that this story actually first came from Lainey Gossip. I asked AI and it has no origin for this story. Here’s what AI said,

“While Lainey Gossip has played a role in discussing the tensions between the two duchesses, the story itself likely originated from a mix of tabloid reports and media speculation that circulated prior to Lainey Gossip's coverage”

Outig · 30/09/2025 09:22

Definitely came from Laineygossip. It was a ‘blind gossip’ item.

Didn’t offer a ride

Here’s a scenario to consider:
Let’s say you’re dating a guy and you’re super into each other, and you’ve been staying with him, and he’s really serious about you, the most serious he’s been about anyone. He lives in the same complex with someone he’s very close to. And the person he’s close to has a partner too. You and she don’t know each other well. But since you’ve been staying there, you run into each other one day. And you tell her you’re going shopping and where. She says she’s going shopping too and leaves in the car. You head out on foot. Turns out, she went shopping exactly where you went shopping. And she knew that’s where you were going. But she didn’t offer you a ride.
Is that weird?
Maybe it’s not that weird. But considering who they are, it IS super gossipy.

TooTooMuchEverything · 30/09/2025 09:30

I know Lainey gossip wrote about the story ( I wasn't aware that it was a blind item though, and I don't have much faith in those) but I can't find any confirmation that Lainey Gossip wrote about the story first.

Outig · 30/09/2025 09:46

Her blind is the first one, it’s the one which started all the rumours elsewhere. She has never denied it came from Meghan. Lainey is also best buddies with Scobie going back years. We know Meghan passes on gossip.

Serenster · 30/09/2025 09:56

You might just have to trust us - she did.

If you’re interested the commentators on this site (which at the time had a lot of Royals coverage) are discussing the item coming out on the Lainey gossip site that day.

https://www.gofugyourself.com/royals-round-up-february-17th-2017-02-2017

It was presented as a blind by Lainey - i.e. no names given, but was obviously about Meghan and Kate. The same story was included by Omid Scobie’s book Finding in Finding Freedom, thus confirming that it was about Catherine and Meghan

Nott Cottage was featured in a magazine spread ( metal dog bowls in the kitchen) when H & M lived there. The Gloucester family was moved out of a 20 room apartment in Kensington because it was to be renovated for H & M. Frogmore Cottage, which is actually very big, had millions spent on it to renovate it for H & M. Look at those Frogmore kitchen photos - obviously a new, pricey kitchen.

Harry even says in Spare that he didn't have to do any cooking or cleaning or laundry when he lived in Nott Cottage. The royal staff took care of all of that. The problem appears to have been that the staff didn't hire an interior decorator as Harry was apparently incapable of buying his own couch. Probably because they don't sell furniture at T.K. Maxx.
