Imo, no different to me kissing the hand of my cousin’s husband, who is a Greek Orthodox priest on first seeing him that day, or any priest actually, or when my Indian neighbour see their grandmother and bow down to her in greeting. Or when the judge walks into court and the legal team and judge bow to each other.
I see the bowing/curtseying for the role and not the person. Possibly because that’s the way I’ve been brought up.
I have to say the Maitliss interview was so clear what a weasel he was.
