Is Kate Middleton wearing a blonde WIG?

Saw pictures today of Catherine, The Princess of Wales at the Natural History Museum.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-15064693/Princess-Wales-natural-history-museum-return-work-summer.html

I’m glad to see her back to work and looking happy. I’m also stunned by how different her hair looks. I always admired her amazing brown hair, so the blonde is quite the shock. Maybe it’s the wind and the rain creating the effect, but it almost looks like she is wearing a wig?

Just to clarify, I understand she went through cancer treatment and that can affect the hair in many ways. If she is wearing a wig, I really really don’t see a problem with it. If anything, it would be such a boon to cancer patients and people with alopecia etc who do wear wigs frequently. They could see that even wearing a wig you could look as fabulous as Kate.

Either way what is your verdict, wig or her own hair? Does the blonde suit her or do you prefer her as a brunette?

For the Vote:
You are being unreasonable, Kate's hair is all her own.
You are NOT being unreasonable, it's defiantly a wig.

Also as a side note I love her outfit.

Good Heir Day! Kate returns to duties with blonde post-holiday hair

The Princess of Wales joined her husband Prince William to visit the Natural History Museum in London today as they returned to duties after their summer break.

I don't dye my hair. For years I have had people tell me to dye it. People telling me I am brave not to dye it. I had a really bad case of covid and lost a lot of hair and the remaining hair went very grey. After a year of very healthy living, my hair came back almost as dark as in the past.

Ultimately you should do what makes you happy. People should take a long look at themselves before they criticize other people. Charles and William are criticized for their actions. Catherine is criticized for her looks. It is 2025. Time to move past that.

I think she’s just had some extensions in or a weave.

I do get frustrated with the Royal Family. They are obsessed with Kate’s image and her being made to look perfect. I can’t think of any other Royal, other than Charlotte, where there is such a focus on their physicality by the media and public. The constant focus Kate’s image must be exhausting. It does make me worry about the mental health of Charlotte over the long term.

However, ignoring the hair, I was surprised how she looked. She looks exhausted and not her usual radiant self. l hope she is OK and not ill either physically or mentally. She has three children and it must be worrying for all of them.

With Princess Diana, I felt she was more ‘herself’ in what she wore. She also let her kids just be kids. They looked smart but they were never made to look perfect.

It's actually good that Harry spends so little on his wardrobe. It frees up his money for his many other very high expenses.

Muffinmam · 05/09/2025 03:40

You can see the doll hair extensions at the back of her head. They are really high up. Which makes me think she may have lost her hair to chemo or she’s hired someone terrible at doing hair.

Her hair looks cheap and unnatural and the colour is awful. She does not look well. Her face is all grey and haggard. She’s younger than me and has so much money to put towards her appearance and she does not look well.
The disgusting thing is - she had spent thousands on her hair during a cost of living crisis.

Coolasfeck · 05/09/2025 05:12

I’m sure I read somewhere her stylist quit. She needs to hire someone pronto who can install weave/extensions properly or at least get a good friend to check the hair is blended properly before she leaves the house.

She’s an attractive and wealthy woman. There is no way she should be rocking a weave where the colour doesn’t match her own hair.

You can see in the picture below her real hair at the top and where the weave starts part way down. You can see the change in hair texture and colour from around the ear.

Her wearing weaves was unnoticeable previously because her natural brown colour was healthy and shiny and was properly colour matched to the installed pieces. The bleach has damaged her hair and does not match the pieces.

There is no shame in adding hair, I’ve done it but it needs to be done properly. Her team let her down.

Why on Earth is it offensive neutrally to remark on the wigs worn by Ultra Orthodox Jewish women, in a chat all about wig-wearing women ?
It’s a not taboo theme. It’s just about wigs, in this present context, and nothing actually to do with religion. I was astonished to read your reaction.

[Mind you, I actually think the matter could very well be explored here, and specifically about this religious manifestation the comment referred to (and others involving hiding our hair too, beyond Judaism) since exchanging views on this cultural practice would greatly expand our thoughts about the way women’s hair is viewed in our multicultural (and highly visual, media-saturated) society, and the range of significance it attracts (and for whom, while we’re at it).

Mention of the Orthodox Jewish community which mandates women’s wearing of wigs isn’t an occasion of bashing faith nor of making generalisations, by the mere allusion to it, and we’re all free to observe and remark on it]

No it's not. It's just an attempt to have a go at her by Sussex supporters

So a negative opinion means you must be a Sussex supporter? How weird 😆

Being that invested in defending the looks of a someone who happened to marry into an unelected privileged ruling institution that is funded by us the taxpayers is extremely weird.

The poster said ‘her friends’ she didn’t say all Jewish women.

It’s like me commenting in the Hijab and saying ‘that’s similar to how some of my Muslim relatives and friends style their Hijab’.

Also - When I saw the picture I thought Kate resembled 2 Orthodox Jewish women in my extended family - that’s a good wig, very similar to what so and so wears style wise’.

There’s enough ugliness in the world today - why add to it by lambasting a perfectly innocent post.

Me too, and hadn’t seen your post until after I’d posted in reply to jamnpancakes who I also know to be a very reasonable poster

What is her name @Sidebeforeself ?

Catherine Princess of Wales is how it was announced she should be known as. Yes it’s a title rather than a surname . She is no longer known as Kate Middleton, She is also no longer known as the Duchess of Cambridge.

And those who care about titles are welcome to use them. If she doesn't officially have a new surname then I don't see how it is unreasonable to use the only surname she's ever had. It's easily understood who is being discussed.

the3robbers · 05/09/2025 07:53

TBH I think the point here shouldn’t be whether or not she’s wearing a wig because that’s very much her own personal style choice. it’s more that she is put under such scrutiny for something so inconsequential and by some people almost shamed for wearing a wig (or not still seems to be undecided) lots of women do it. Lots of men do it too.

I am not even a fan of the royal family or William and Kate (I am aware this isn’t her full name) but its really up to her how she styles herself, hair & clothing and maybe she’s just decided to try and something new and it didn’t land as she thought or she thinks it looks amazing.

She prefers to be called Catherine, not Kate, and always refers to herself that way. Out of respect, I’d use Catherine too. It’s no different than calling Meghan by her chosen name rather than her birth name, Rachel, or calling Harry his birth name, Henry.

Sidebeforeself · 05/09/2025 07:54

Why ignore what someone wants to be known as though? Would you call any other woman by her former surname? Yes I know its name v title but if that’s how she wishes to be known…

Edited

Who knows what her actual wishes are? She accepts the title clearly, doesn't mean she isn't also fine with people using her actual name. None of us have any idea how she feels or if she cares at all.

Am I imagining it, or did this thread start off in AIBU? It has an AIBU poll attached.

If it did, why would somebody start such an obnoxious and unpleasant thread on a general board rather than in the ghetto of The Royal Family board?

Like not criticising the other royals...or is that a special case for you?

Will you be taking a long look at yourself given all the criticism you throw about other royals? Will you be moving past it?

Greysowhat · 05/09/2025 08:03

"Take a long look at yourself"

Mother? What are you doing on Mumsnet?!!!!! 😅

cumbriaisbest · 05/09/2025 08:06

She looks exhausted

Why can't she just be exhausted? Now that would be modeling something useful.

If we don’t know her personal preference, the respectful approach is to use the name she gives herself. Since she refers to herself as Catherine, that is the name we should use.

Ok lets disagree otherwise we’ll be here all day

You think she's on MNs? The papers use Kate so I don't see a problem with it.

Also Kate or KM are just quicker to type!

OK, Catherine Middleton if you insist. I have no idea what she prefers herself. Has she announced this somewhere? She must have preferred Kate at some point or are you saying the press decided on that specific abbreviation unilaterally?
