Prince Harry's Wreath

So apparently Prince Harry has asked someone to lay a wreath on his behalf to honour the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
I know the military meant a lot to him but he's being called out on it as he mentions his grandfather. I'd like to think he did this with the best intentions but the cynic in me wonders if he did it as a dig at William for only posting a message on social media.

THIS. I am so tired of Harry being used as that family's scapegoat. This is a family who:

Get away with dangerous driving/causing near death by dangerous driving
Possible murder
A king and fake queen on the throne - don't even start me about those two freeloading nasty narcissistic excuses of humans
Sex offending - Andrew
Animal killing for sport
Various other infidelities

But yes let's pick on a guy who escaped it all to raise his own family away from the parasites (Queen Elizabeth being the exception). Imagine how Harry feels having to look at that excuse of a woman in his mother's place, a woman who died when he was 13.

This country's priorities and values are totally scew whiff!

Yoy don’t think Harry and Meghan are parasites? Open your eyes.

Harry has been involved with questionable activity in the killing of endangered species:

Prince Harry should settle bird-shooting mystery in memoirs, say campaigners

Wildlife campaigners hope Harry will shed light on the killing of two of Britain’s rarest birds over Sandringham in 2007

I think the list of Harry’s misdemeanours would be rather long…..

What current royal has committed murder?

Yes you are correct on that. He was pictured with a boar he had killed. I believe Meghan has told him that she is opposed to hunting and he has stopped. It doesn't excuse the previous behaviour though.

Oh add that to the list. Charles and his crusade for wildlife and the planet. HYPOCRITE.

Who, ever, said it is "the most important issue"?

It is an amusing snippet of info, at the very least. If you read more into it, it is perhaps the latest tone-deaf attempt by the prodigal son to winkle his way back onto the Royal benefits grift.

If neighbour Fred's house across the way is on fire, that's no reason to think that someone sneaking into your back door to nick your handbag is an unimportant nothingburger.

I think Harry & Meghan are the least of the Royal Family's worries.

He didn’t escape; he flounced off when he didn’t get his own way .
And is now desperate to reconcile.

Maybe being a Prince of the Realm wasn’t quite so bad after all!

It was a buffalo, I hate that all the RF appear to hunt.

I think the all time low of twerkgate sealed their fate.

You could be right, BigWillyLittleTodger - certainly it was the end of any hope of being taken seriously by those with more discretion - and I do agree that it's a relief to see little stupidity from them ATM

That said, I worry in case silence means negotiations are going on about a return, as in "Keep schtum or all discussions are off"
I can't see that being welcomed by many, but then I've never gone along with the idea that the palace would never consider it, so as usual time will tell

CathyorClaire · 19/08/2025 17:20

I'm no candle holder for Harold but this doesn't really seem something to condemn him for when W's absence from VJ commemorations has passed largely unremarked.

Anything is possible if Camilla can be accepted as Queen Consort when she was publicly hated by so much of the population then the return of H & M is also possible.

I did raise an eyebrow myself at his non attendance, was he on another engagement does anyone know?

It's being said - how truthfully I don't know - that they're "on a summer break with the children", so another engagement seems unlikely

FWIW Anne wasn't there either (apparently it was her 75th birthday) but don't they all generally regard themselves as being on holiday throughout August?

I think Charles would consider it for sure, he would loose a huge amount of public support though, me included. How they could come back as working royals whilst doing cooking shows and twerking videos would be difficult for even the Palace to spin, they would still want the half in half out deal, i.e the state banquets, balcony appearances and meeting world leaders but not opening the recycling centre in Norwich. I wonder what Harry’s commercial venture is going to be, isn’t something supposed to be happening soon?

Hmm my other eyebrow is now raised! I will give Anne a pass, she does a huge amount of the grunt work and it was her birthday! Sometimes William really doesn’t do himself any favours, it was an incredibly important occasion I don’t think being on a summer break cuts the mustard in his position.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2025 13:07

But there's no record of that being an annual payment, is there?

Charles' accounts for the Duchy of C had a combined payment for both William and Harry on the books each year. The exact split was never revealed and presumably when Harry was single and William was married with two children the split was not exactly 50/50. It increased as a total when Harry got married and had Archie. So even if William was getting slightly more with three kids vs 1, it was still likely Harry was getting around 2 million pounds a year by the time he left. I think the total was 5-6 million.

It's also not clear whether the money was just handed over to them to use as they wished or whether they had to submit receipts and expenses for specific things like staff wages for their office, personal needs, clothes for engagements etc. with oversight from the CFO of the Duchy management team.

Also, when Harry and William split their joint office Harry and Meghan were supposed to be under the umbrella of the main Buckingham Palace office so not sure if Harry was still paying the staff or then Charles was.

It doesn’t, @BigWillyLittleTodger . I await an explanation but I would expect such an important occasion to be attended by a senior royal. I don’t actually have an issue with Harry’s letter and wreath, other than that it’s very confusing in what capacity he laid it.

Pretty sure they had to submit invoices as it was well documented in 2018 that eyebrows were raised at the amount Meghan was spending on clothes .

I agree W is in the wrong to have missed it. I respect him for valuing family time in general but in this situation he should have given up one day, especially that thousands of people gave up a whole future for the rest of us.

jumpingthehighjump · 19/08/2025 21:02

William and kate on summer break.
I think it's poor that all William (he is Heir after all...) did was send out a message on SM no doubt written by someone else when, all but Anne (her birthday), attended events... Charles, Camilla, Edward, Sophie, Duke & Duchess of Gloucester
And yet here we are with criticism of Harry (again)
If he wants to have a wreath laid and write a message, fine by me. I'm more concerned by William's absence to be honest.
I have to say, from the bits I watched, Charles hit the right note with it all.

Ohpleeeease · 19/08/2025 21:04

I think it was a misstep, and I’m usually quick to defend the Waleses for putting family first.
I know William isn’t yet King, but he is the most senior royal representative of his generation.

It would have been a clear signal that the sacrifice of that body of men was appreciated by future generations for whom they were made.

Spectre8 · 19/08/2025 21:24

Why not start a seperate thread about it then

LidlAmaretto · 19/08/2025 21:25

Yes this excuse that they can't be good parents unless both of them spend every nanosecond with the kids is very poor. Especially when most people can't get more than 4 week holiday a year. Are they irreparably damaging their children by being out of their sight for an afternoon? He really should knock that excuse that on the head and turn up for things in the kids extensive holidays. Especially important things like the 80th anniversary of VJ day.

Sums it up perfectly I think ...

Rishi Sunak quite rightly got a lot of negative publicity when he missed part of the Dday events last year. William misses this and it gets ignored by the press.
