Presumably, then, that's why Invictus is a foundation, not a charity. I had read H&M make demands on Invictus for private jets, hotel suites and clothes, and was cross enough when I thought charity funds were being used. That veterans are paying is now at the top of my very long lists of ways in which they have damaged their reputation. This is not 'showing upn, doing good '.

So is the use of “foundation “ the fact here?
because it’s being feted to us as a charity! And frankly I can’t seem to find any evidence that those whose name this was set up for receive anything at all!

CoffeeCantata · 10/08/2025 15:48

That’s why I found the ‘Meghan’s Invictus Wardrobe’ threads there used to be on here so hard to take. I just couldn’t get my head round the tone-deafness of them.

i may be a puritan but even if she was paying for them herself, that would be a tasteless distraction from the whole purpose of the event.

Baital · 10/08/2025 15:49

It is a charity.

There are different organisational settings ups that can be registered charities.

Trust (or Foundation), companies, unincorporated associations etc

Can I just share my thoughts about invictus?
It’s referred to as a charity - I didn’t question this
it does a lot for wounded veterans-I didn’t question this

but after looking into it and receiving information from all over the place .
its not really what we would call a charity is it?
the wounded veterans take part in the games, this obviously helps their self confidence and esteem but they have to pay for everything themselves! Did you know that?

I had no idea ! , so all the funds raised go towards paying for the venue , planning, pr and celebrity guests!
(not established but rumoured ) Harry’s attendance and fights and accommodations, Meghans wardrobe, flights and accommodation.
am I the only one slightly scandalised by this? I mean how is this a charity?
can anyone explain?

I do recall that, someone on twitter who ran a charity for people who had lost limbs wrote a post about being invited to send someone from their charity to the games, think it was the Canada games, they declined after realizing how much it was going to cost their charity, she listed all the expenses they were expected to cover, flights, accommodation, expenses for 5 people, 2 participants, coach, trainer and Physio, I think. Travel insurance. Families having to self pay their own travel expenses. And she was particularly angry about the NDA’s they were required to sign if they chose to participate.

I remember it being discussed on here at the time.

I must have missed that @Thedom! But invictus is always brought up by supporters as Harry’s jewel in the crown ! , evidence of his charitable work! 😡

JSMill · 10/08/2025 15:32

I didn’t know that! That’s awful. So H and M don’t pay to go and stay there but the wounded soldiers do?!

That's been a grumble that's been growing in volume for some time.

The competitors have to largely/completely self fund whereas it's far from clear how the "commitee's" activities during the games themselves are supported.

I would agree with a p p that if you want to supporr a veteran charity Help for Heroes is a better place for your money that IG, but that's tough on the actual IG competitors.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2025 15:58

FWIW it's not unknown for attendees to have to fundraise to enter things, charities or not, but since as jeff correctly said the Warrior Games don't charge in the same way, wouldn't that have been a good part of the model to follow?

I don't know how much of H&M's expenses the veterans are funding, though I'm aware it's a subject of active conversation among some of them, but as said already Invictus could avoid all this by getting themselves a more reputable patron and why they don't is a mystery to me

It is a registered charity in England and Wales

Harry quits Sentebale
Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/08/2025 16:05

Had to smile at your mention of possible funding for Harry's "fights and accommodation", @jeffgoldblum

Imagine that was a typo and you really meant flights, but given the way he so often carries on I'd say it serves pretty well Grin

I did notice after I posted @Puzzledandpissedoff, then thought “ what the hell ! Seems appropriate “ 🤣
wondered if anyone would spot it.

Or the Royal British Legion, which has been around longest.

The url is The Invictus Games Foundation so it must be fact. Apparently, that means its focus is on distributing charitable donations. To be honest, I'm not clear on the difference between a charity and a foundation. Probably not much as charity appears in brackets on the charity commission website.

So .. smoke and mirrors as always @IdaGlossop! , obviously I imagine they don’t expect people to actually look too closely! 🙄

wonder what is the real story behind this?

The MOD considered proposals from the Invictus UK partnership and have chosen this route moving forwards.”

The list of income sources is quite diverse, including government grants. I'd like to know why, with an income of £2.72 million in the last financial year reported on, investment income is stated as zero. Why aren't the trustees questioning this?

For typo

Good question!
I have no idea , but I’m not very good with these financial things, I thought archwell looked like a money laundering scam!
but someone more knowledgeable told me it’s how these things are run! 🤷‍♀️

Has anyone seen the article in today's Mail on Sunday that states that Harry has issued a formal complaint about Dr. Sophie's conduct since the CC report was made public accusing her of "recycling" unfounded claims. Sorry I don't have the IT skills to share but it is not behind a paywall.

IdaGlossop · 10/08/2025 18:26

It is also five charities, of which one is a foundation.

I'd like to think the MOD could see the way things were going and decided their resources were better used elsewhere, Thedom, but who can say?

At least the British Legion has a long and honourable record and isn't constantly overshadowed by H&M, so there's that ...

What a fool he is. His complaint to the CC revolves around Dr Sophie repeating allegations of bullying in contravention of the CC's comment about not conducting arguments in public. He did exactly the same thing after the report was published, saying that the charity had been subject to a hostile takeover, adding that the CC isn't fit for purpose. Here's what H actually means: 'Sentebale is mine. I want my charity back. The CC has made a mistake. I am Royal. Now I want you to say Chandauke is unfit to be chair so I can have my charity back. That is what you should have done after your investigation. It's obvious. What Harry wants, Harry gets.'

ThePoshUns · 10/08/2025 19:06

Absolutely @IdaGlossop

Holdingonfornow · 11/08/2025 08:00

I wonder what Sophie’s next move will be? As a lawyer I don’t imagine she has made any claims she can’t evidence, whereas Harry seems to be flailing around saying things like “how dare she mention Diana” and citing details from when She was appointed Chair.

there are some details there that don’t ring true also… no one can demand pay for an unpaid role, and in the end she did it for free… so what is that all about? Trying to make her look greedy when perhaps it was her demonstrating her experience/what her time is worth? The idea that she forced herself into the role, also sounds more to me like a demand for a transparent recruitment process rather than a jobs for the boys kind of appointment. And at the time Harry seemed happy about it. It seems that he is struggling really to name something she’s actually done wrong.
