Since you brought it up…because it’s not what we’re discussing, but I can’t let that go!

The DoS has attacked the RF and particularly the Princess of Wales. The DoS also has a number of serious bullying allegations hanging over her head in the UK and US.

The Princess of Wales is guilty of neither of these things. She’s just done her job and been very ill.

That’s why they are treated differently on these threads.

End of derail as far as I’m concerned.

Thank you Coffee, you made a better reply to the post than I could have.

Thedom · 05/08/2025 09:54

The thing is, the RF are still really popular. Prince William apparently has a higher popularity rating than any politician has ever had.

Let's face it Satan is probably more popular than most politicians. As for the RF they sound like any other mumsnet family.

jumpingthehighjump · 05/08/2025 10:07

The RF are rapidly losing support amongst the younger generation and they know it

I sometimes wonder if they are just grabbing what they can while they can

When I read this article this morning with all the household spending and collapsed enterprises it actually made me think of Meghan. We obviously have no idea of the current state of M and H's finances but it wouldn't surprise me at all in the future if something similar was unveiled .

Striking similarities between the two couples.
It’s looking like H&M graduated, with flying colours, from the School of York!

Haha... the big skip made me laugh! If only!

I'm just not sure anything will change. Look at the outcry with the Panorama programme about profiting by the Duchies and charities... big outcry, two days later, chip paper.

I think this will just die a death like all the other stories sadly.
I think all members of the RF are immune and it all just carries on as before.

I think that it will result in more scrutiny and I wouldn’t argue with that - I don’t think any of the constitutional monarchists on here would. I’m all for slimming down where it’s sensible.

i don’t believe that the RF are “100% rotten”. Of course they’re not. KC is a sincere man and there’s zero evidence he’s behaved like the Yorks. His faults are petty ones. I think William is super- conscious of the need to do, and to be seen to do, a good, squeaky-clean job - for a number of sound reasons I won’t go into here (unless asked!). Princess Anne is acknowledged even by royal detractors to be hard-working and genuine about her duties. Catherine is doing her best in difficult circs, and I don’t think she’s put a foot wrong.

It’s not that the RF are all bad - the issue is how the completely worm-eaten apples in the barrel have been allowed to get away with their gross misconduct for so long. If that was to do with the late queen, and I’m not saying it was necessarily, there’s been a regime change to a far less sympathetic lot now!

I'm time travelling a bit here but I've been reflecting today on Harold's dramatics.

Why does he vociferously refute the allegations of physical violence while staying silent on the allegations of making a homophobic slur?

Are we to assume this part is true?

I don't see why not, Cathy

By his own words we already know Harry's racist and ableist, so being a homophobe as well would hardly be a suprise

Someone I know works making stained glass windows, as part of a woman-only team. They were working on York Minster at the time, and Prince Andrew visited. They were ready to demonstrate their skill and artistry, and his opening gambit was, “Oh, I thought you’d all be in bikinis!”

Tosser.

What the hell?!

with regards to age playing a part in people’s shock at today’s article on SF. I’m 67 and was aware of lots of what was said but the bits I didn’t know well and truly have me agog.

Seconded! Not news in the general sense, but the scale ….wow.

And I knew A was a disgusting lech who thought he just had to snap his fingers at women, but again, it’s the scale and the level of his depravity.

In the bin…if not in the gaol..with him. I’m no supporter of the extremely unpleasant Ghislaine Maxwell, but she is serving 40 years - that’s longer than the Moors Murderers got - so I think Andrew could benefit from a spell behind bars.

LidlAmaretto · 05/08/2025 08:02

Yes that is one of the most outrageous things. Alongside the Monarch and the heir being able to lobby for exemptions to legislation before it's gone through the Parliamentary system. Their exemption is written into legislation but can't be discussed ( because see above), passed into law and given Royal assent. Then when someone questions why the Royals have an exemption the Palace says 'we fully comply with all laws' well of course they do because the law contains the exemption they themselves demanded! It's absolutely ridiculous that this is seen as acceptable.

Precisely, LidlAmaretto - and then folk try to claim that they don't have any power Confused

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The late Prince Philip was a racist pig and it was all treated as a joke.

I think Harry and Andrew probably have a lot of dirt on each other from their military days and military contacts, and just from general forces’ gossip.

A lot of the rumours about them both are bloody grim.

What’s especially interesting is how Harry was protected not just because he was a member of the royal family but because he was an IPP (Internationally Protected Person).

Harry really doesn’t like losing his IPP status, does he? He’s made quite the fuss.

I suspect Andrew may also have been an IPP in his trade envoy role …

CoffeeCantata · 05/08/2025 10:29

TheAutumnCrow · 05/08/2025 08:15

There seem to be a lot of unwell people in the royal family.

No more than in most families, but with high exposure and more opportunities to exploit things and make public asses of themselves.

BigAnne · 05/08/2025 10:28

Oh, not this again. He was a man of his time - he probably othered’ other races but he was not a simple racist in the modern sense. He hugely admired indigenous people and championed their survival in the face of consumerist modern society, which he did think was crazy.

I hate the lack of nuance.

No support for Andrew here at all but GM was involved in recruiting and being involved with physical exploitation of 14 year olds with Epstein over many years.

I’m surprised that you’re so shocked about the rumours about PA’s parentage. They’d aren’t new and were skirted around in The Crown. Certainly the Queens close friendship with the alleged male is very well known.

Edited

I doubt anyone was shocked by these rumours, I certainly wasn’t, just as I’m aware and not shocked about all the other rumours about other royals.
but my stance is this… we cannot allow these rumours to stand because we don’t like or support certain people and then complain when they are made about people we do like!
either it’s wrong or it isn’t.
ps the crown is fictional.

A very good point cathy ! And one I hadn’t noticed, I admit the homophobic comment actually passed me by when I read it.

I’m not shocked about the level of spending it has been floating around for years, what really surprised me was the stories of her behaviour to staff !
the shouting the bullying, it’s very reminiscent of someone else!
I was under the impression ( that was clearly clever pr!) that Sarah was this fun , down to earth, bumbling slightly stupid, harmless person.
apparently not.

gishgalloping · 05/08/2025 11:08

That latest excerpt was an eye-opener. I knew Fergie had a spending problem but I had no idea it was that bad. In some ways I feel sorry for her, another woman with a deeply traumatic childhood marrying into the royal family and left to flounder. She really is a terrible money-grubbing grifter, though.

stillavid · 05/08/2025 11:14

I am not defending Sarah at all but I seem to recall her divorce settlement was pretty shit.

The RF seem to be rubbish at dealing with money and the extended family - if you leave someone like that relatively poor you are sadly asking for trouble.

I think the same with H&M - personally I would have given them a nice healthy settlement agreement with an NDA and wished them well. Charles totally has access to funds to have done this.

And the frugality of any member of the RF is totally laughable. Tupperware containers and stable fulls of race horses - so frugal indeed.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 05/08/2025 11:43

The phone line references - phone lines used to be expensive. There’s another mention later on in the article that her phone bill was £1,600 a year, a lot of that would be paying fees for extra lines. She could have had an argument for a second line (one for her and the girls, one for staff) but the 6 or so was unnecessary. It’s a good example of her always going for the most expensive option.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 05/08/2025 11:44

Paying extra to fly a suitcase full of hangers.

JSMill · 05/08/2025 11:59

I have a relative who was a traffic police officer. When SF was still married, he pulled her over for speeding. Her protection officer got out and asked him to waive it. My relative initially refused but when the man said ‘look mate, she’s going to give me so much grief over this if you don’t do it’, he gave in. To me that just told me the kind of person she really is. Of course, the level of extravagance is incomprehensible to me. It’s bad enough when I read about the excesses of Saudi royals, for example, but at least they have the money! She’s extravagant with money she doesn’t have.
