I've never started a thread here before, but I thought some people might be interested in this take on the story by a PR podcast I listened to yesterday (started listening to this podcast as I know very little about PR!).

It would be good to know if any of the resident PR people agree.

It would also be nice if Meghan could reconcile with her father so he can see his grandchildren.

Lime, I’m sorry to disillusion you, but it’s crystal clear from many different sources that the late Queen did not trust Meghan, was concerned as to her motives for marrying H, and unhappy about her treatment of royal staff, to name just a few well-documented issues.

Have you by any chance seen that photo of the Queen’s expression as she looks at Meghan at the wedding? It’s not exactly a look of uninhibited ecstasy.

I think at the time, a lot of people thought it was because the Queen (forgive me for this) had a ‘resting bitch face’. It does look now like she really was unhappy. If you compare how happy she was at K&W’s wedding, it says it all.

The demand does seem to be coming from the Sussexes but I'm sure Charles would love to see his son and grandchildren again. The institution certainly doesn't need them but how lovely for Charles if Harry could apologise and they could have some sort of relationship.

I don’t think he can, and I don’t think M would countenance it.

Im not convinced either that interfering with the status quo in terms of the children is a good idea. I think they should be left to grow up in the US without complications.

The logistics would be difficult - Meghan might not allow them out of the country without her, and either she wouldn’t come to the UK or - mor importantly - would W and + want her around, potentially messing up their lives again.

Hoolahoophop · 23/07/2025 15:33

I wish people wouldn't use one unflattering snap of the Queen, (who could at times have quite a resting disapproving face) and say she didn't like Meghan. While the camera never lies, a candid snapshot taken from reels and reels of snapshots can be selected to tell a story. Though I did google, The Queen looking happy at Meghan and Harry's Wedding to make my point and there was just the one outside the church. So maybe in this case it is representative.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/07/2025 15:36

That's what I raised back on the first thread, @CoffeeCantata

As things stand, a return for Harry which made him happy would likely involve the same for Meghan and the kids and I just don't buy that she'd agree to it

Which leaves the question of what would happen then ...

Profhilodisaster · 23/07/2025 15:06

Harry has said that under the current security arrangements (which won't change) he won't bring his family to the UK, so what sort of reconciliation is he after (a financial one most likely) . He just needs to have a quick phone call with Charles every so often, talk about the weather, the kids, how's everyone doing and leave it at that.

… don’t forget the bit where he asks Pa for a handful of gold Great British coins from the public purse to squander on his lifestyle … the one they can’t afford!

HonoriaBulstrode · 22/07/2025 13:37

I don’t think H&M realised how badly the exaggerated curtsey would land. I think she saw it as ‘cutesy ditsy American meets daft old Brit customs’ without contemplating the insult it would be to the Queen.

And also the idea that someone who had had ballet lessons and was a trained actress should not know how to curtsey. Or that an intelligent woman couldn't find out beforehand. It made her look disingenuous at best, dishonest at worst.

To be fair, a ballet curtsey is called a reverence, and is considerably more exaggerated than what you would do as a normal curtsey.

HonoriaBulstrode · 23/07/2025 16:43

The deep one, yes. But the curtsey little girls do at ballet classes is more like the 'bob' one would do on meeting the late Queen.

Yes , and let’s not forget that she did in fact do a curtsey properly in an episode of suits!
it’s on film , been broadcast , re shown on YouTube, how she thought that little lie would fly is beyond me!

A truly grotesque sequence, including M looking at H afterwards as if to dare him to defend his grandmother.

Edited for typo

H claimed in Spare that he was at school in England alone when he heard the Queen Mother had died.

Waiting for NewPR who swears by H's varied recollections why international media place H at a ski resort (not school) in Switzerland (not England) with this father and brother (not alone)

Feel free to explain belief in blatant lies.

IdaGlossop · 23/07/2025 17:37

Does NewPR get paid or is she working out of the goodness of her heart?

These shows know that mentioning Harry and Meghan gets them attention and free publicity. Nobody takes Family Guy seriously, and if you do, well nothing I say will make a difference.

Provide evidence that nobody takes Family Guy seriously. Otherwise, you are a liar.

It's very important for PRs to be able to back up their assertions with properly sourced evidence.

No need to refer to international media for that one. My own memory told me that the QM died over Easter weekend. No way H would have been at school.

Family Guy is very sharp and written by the multi-talented Seth McFarlane, I think lots of people rate it, especially in the US.

onehorserace · 23/07/2025 20:04

Meghan will never come to the uk again. She has to be the centre of attention and to feel loved so that's not going to happen. She struggled with the aftermath of the Queen's death while in the UK. She probably realised the only reason the crowds were polite were because of the situation. She nearly crapped herself when she came face to face with Catherine that day.

This is the first time I've seen this and my jaw has hit the floor.

I'm just bemused as to why this hasn't been trawled out endlessly to counter those who insist her antics were a result of Harold not briefing her sufficiently.

Pair of duplicitous clowns.

I don't know if she was taking the piss out of herself (doubtful) or if she thought she was being cutesy, either way she got it so so wrong and I think it's a sign that her personality is a bit skewed.

I know!!! , I having never watched suits had no idea until it was brought to my attention on YouTube!
but let’s be honest there is proof of almost all the lies they tell , yet strangely actual journalists seem to be blind , blinkered or silenced! 🙄

I’m sure she thought she was “kooky”, ditsy, cute etc etc but she’s also over- confident that the audience finds royal protocol just as ridiculous as she does. The look on Harry’s face, though….he knows she’s made an error of judgement but he’s too weak to know how to handle it.

i think it was just before the curtsy that she likened royal life to a mock-medieval banquet, which again, showed her total lack of understanding of either it or her wider audience.

I know the SS love this bit but for mainstream viewers she made herself an easy target.
