What to make of this??

I don't think any funeral details would be discussed with the couple's PR person present would they?
If that was what they were discussing then it makes it even more unlikely that the palace are behind this meeting leak.

I'm veering towards Harry wanting a meeting (for whatever reason) and KC sending Tobyn Andreae and using it as a test, which the couple have failed (again).

Senior people appoint others to deal with things for them. Given the platinum jubilee and QEII funeral, I would expect the Royal family to want a 'sounding out' sort of conversation. KCIII won't be close to the detail but it would help everyone to know whether in principle they (H&M, or H, M and some combination of A & L) want to attend. H&M are so difficult that it would make sense to be able to say down the line that the Royal household has been reasonable, even if they are reasonable in vain.

perhaps the tough outer shall is the real.persona and she plays the vulnerable role to keep H hooked. She has gone out of her way to present herself as Diana mark 2 and the suicide threats , car chases etc etc could be her way of subconsciously triggering H to.protect her . She has subtly aped Diana and even claimed to have sought advice from her spirit at the graveside etc.
She has presented the narrative of H as her defender ( slaying the metaphorical dragon to save the fair princess etc ) and I think he is desperate to save her at all costs. Because of course he couldn't save his mother ! He has a chance to atone for that in some way with M. ( not that he has anything to atone for of course)
As I say they are fascinating and their relationship would make a great case study .

They must have realised it would be leaked. I doubt BP did but that is just a hunch.

OTOH the BP comms guy looks genuinely startled as he spots the snapper. Possibly pap shots were not part of the deal.

The question is why? It's obvious what the Markles are up to, but anything other than a very low key family reconciliation would play very badly with the public. There are now over 7500 negative responses on the article.

I am not @GiveMeSpanakopita but I am a PR person. I am sure this meeting was agreed by BP. Aides would not meet with a representative of H otherwise. I agree with you that the first move was made by Harry's camp and that BP agreed to cooperate with the article and that they didn't expect the pap.

Overall, I see this as more of BP's quiet, reasoned approach to dealing with the H&M problem. Meeting commits them to nothing. In the eyes of the public, it builds their reputation as reasonable people should Harry continue with his 'My family won't speak to me', especially at a time when KCIII is unwell. The RF has subtly kept the upper hand because the meeting took place in London, with Meredith M (those initials!) as supplicant. The photo helps them as MM looks deflated. The leaking helps them because it shows without them having to lift a finger that H is not to be trusted and has learnt nothing about respecting their privacy. Meanwhile, the family continues with business as usual - France state visit, Princess of Wales at Wimbledon, Duchess of Edinburgh in Serbia, Duke of Edinburgh in Canada.

I'm still going with Harry needs help, he hasn't looked good mentally since the last invictus. He's not a great actor. It would be the only reason I could see William giving a seal of reluctant approval. Charles is not stupid and can see that it's William and Catherine most in demand. The soap opera that would follow if Harry did make a limited return would be top notch entertainment. How the PR would attempt to appease the Sussex supporters would mean them earning every penny/cent. Would Harry be a hero or traitor? Who needs Eastenders when a meltdown of any engagement that has Harry near Catherine.

Is it too far fetched to think that M deliberately leaked this as she most definitely does not want to return to the U.K.?
Judging by most people’s reaction she will say that the RF has turned everyone against them and it wouldn’t be safe for them here.
