The royal family

Opinions may Vary . A genuine question about why Meghan and Harry seem to attract such differing views.

I post this more in hope than experience but I would be really interested in a proper discussion about those who are fans or supporters of them , those who aren't and indeed ( of which there are many ) , those who are indifferent.

So - I'll start. There was an interesting post on another thread which said M&H come over as David and Goliath , standing up against "the Institution" - my paraphrase.

No spitting , no fighting , mind the furniture 😂

'Harry often looks so rough and worried nowadays and I get annoyed that people blame this on his marriage!
How would ANY husband look if his wife was a constant figure of harsh scrutiny and ridicule.
How do people expect him to look?
How would you look?'

But he's not the only one, is he?

Do you have similar feelings for William and Kate? They have been subject to the vilest abuse on SM by Harry and Meghan’s fans, and the press and mainstream media were fairly awful in the run up to Kate's video confirming her medical diagnosis. William had to deal with the death of his mother, and the serious illness of his wife - I can only imagine his thoughts when he thought about his own young children conceivably having to deal with the loss of their mother.

I did have similar feelings about William and Kate but I thought this thread was about Meghan and Harry fans?

So do you think M&H fans hate Britain? Maybe some do-but I think a lot of them actually have a romantic image of the Monarchy-and feel thet M&H were unfairly done out of their part in it. I think people are giving the fans too much credit for intelligence, thinking skills and literacy…

How could they think H+M were unfairly done out of their part in the monarchy when they chose to leave?

HRH Prince Harry Duke of Sussex, 5th in line to the British throne, 3rd gentleman in the realm, multimillionaire through unearned wealth is an 'underdog'?

Really?

When it seems so many people dislike or hate you, then yeah they are the underdogs.

Maybe you don't quite understand the saying? It's a very old one, usually used in sport but apt in this case, I feel.

Petitchat · 05/07/2025 10:23

CoffeeCantata · 05/07/2025 10:09

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've read on MN! And I've read some crazy ones.

"Underdog".

Don't you know that one of the classic poses of the malignant narcissist is that of the victim? While bullying like mad all over the place?

Many people dislike, even hate them.
Underdog is the correct word...

This thread has served to prove that anti M & H people, are following and watching them religiously and faithfully.

You've given yourselves away.

Harry was one of the most popular royals until a few years ago, but basing the status of 'underdog' on the single factor of how many random strangers 'hate' you - and not on wealth, status and privilege - seems bizarre to me.

By any normal standard, Harry is the opposite of 'underdog'.

What would you class him as then?
In one word and be nice, please.

I don’t think I can say this any more clearly. These people are not, in the main, thinking clearly! Or even thinking at all.

You must be a huge fan of Prince Andrew then? He’s even more of an underdog than Meghan and Harry, by your definition.

"Be nice" is cringily passive aggressive.

If you insist on one word, then I'd say Harry is a Prince. With all the immense unearned privilege, status and wealth which that implies.

No. It's not "a bit rich" (sic) because I have never been personal to you, or suggested some sort of personality defect. Making wild assumptions about what I must find "dull"? No.
I've joined in this thread because I find the subject interesting. I don't speak on behalf of anyone other than myself. I cannot guess what makes fans, fans.

I apologise for the use of the word “dull”-although I didn’t call you dull! I just cannot imagine what it must be like not to speculate about why people vote Labour, or were so grief stricken by the death of Diana, or why individuals and groups do anything. My posts were simply versions of “Maybe this is why people like M&H”….
And actually, you were quite personal. Several times.

Ok, Prince is good...

And I've earned the right to be cringily passive aggressive.
Bet I've been on this planet more years than yourself

Yes I appreciate you think that H+M fans are not the brightest, but surely anyone can see the difference between choosing not to do something and being prevented from doing it. Unless you think members of the Sussex fandom are actually cognitively impaired? Or do they not know H+M chose to leave? I am not in that group, maybe they think H+M were banished? 🤔

I’m not really disagreeing with you, I just can’t see how even the stupidest fan could think they are being denied their part in the monarchy when their own statement and then the book they collaborated with described what happened.

But underdog status is just about popularity with the public, right? Nothing to do with why someone might be unpopular.

Or as you put it: “When it seems so many people dislike or hate you, then yeah they are the underdogs.”

Maybe you don't quite understand the saying?

IcedPurple · 05/07/2025 10:41

CurlewKate · 05/07/2025 10:37

I've seen some say that they were 'forced out', apparently because the other royals just couldn't handle the Sussex stardom and were eaten up with jealousy.

NormaMajors1992coat · 05/07/2025 10:46

CurlewKate · 05/07/2025 10:37

I assume many people think they had no choice?

But I don’t really understand how they come to that conclusion - the book was called ‘Finding Freedom’ wasn’t it? Not ‘Getting Chucked Out Against Our Wishes’. The 2020 statement they themselves issued says “we have chosen”, “we intend”, “we now plan”, “we feel prepared to make this adjustment”, “after many months of reflection”. Very clearly their decision.

I assume they think that H&M felt they had no choice but to leave. So not banished d but put in an impossible position.

So...have I got this right...just being hated makes you an underdog?

So the old brigade (Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Ceaucescu, Putin) are underdogs?

That's a new take on history!

An underdog surely has to be someone who hasn't done harm to others?

No. I was not. We'll leave it at that. I have no idea if you find astronomy, maths and economics or literature "dull", because I wouldn't care to suggest you are so ill informed or unimaginative or not well read However. You've apologised for the word dull, so it's best we move on.

There was a hilarious typo a while back on here - someone typed the title as 'Funding Freedom'.

I think Dr Freud would understand!

Incompetent. A few years ago, there were rumors that Meghan would run for president. I remember arguing that Harry would not be able to handle being First Gentleman. He'd probably slug the White House Press Corp.
