I post this more in hope than experience but I would be really interested in a proper discussion about those who are fans or supporters of them , those who aren't and indeed ( of which there are many ) , those who are indifferent.

So - I'll start. There was an interesting post on another thread which said M&H come over as David and Goliath , standing up against "the Institution" - my paraphrase.

No spitting , no fighting , mind the furniture 😂

Never sure how Harry is not the villain in Meghans suicide ideation and how Catherine somehow got dragged into it will always be a mystery.

Because Catherine wouldn’t go shopping with her and didn’t enthusiastically share her lipgloss .
No wonder Meghan had poor mental health.

What always seems to be forgotten is that at the time those stories were happening, Catherine was either pregnant or getting over a birth whilst looking after a baby and two other children. She didn't have much time for shopping or stepping in for her useless BIL.

I understand what click bait is. I’d be interested to see how you would react if the name in the headline was the late Queen or Princess Anne -although I’m not sure I can see either of them having avocado for breakfast!

bored blah blah blah GIF by Padma Lakshmi

This is it you see the more you blab about yourself then the more opportunity you give others to snipe. Who really knows what eg Sophie's favourite snack or breakfast is 🤷‍♀️

Oh come on! “Meghan Markle’s favorite snack fuelling drought and murders” was the Mail headline-I just looked it up!

Actually, the headline was “How Meghan's favourite avocado snack - beloved of all millennials - is fuelling human rights abuses, drought and murder".

Interesting how you edited the headline to focus on Meghan and ignored the fact it also includes a reference to “all millennials” as well. Editing the headlines to make them seem worse than they really were? We’ve seen that before when it comes to Meghan’s narratives, of course.

How weird to continuously criticise a couple that in all honesty you know nothing about.

• Just dubious news and articles gleaned from a hawkish "media"

• SPARE which was written by someone recovering from a breakdown

• Just heresay from people who have met or known them.

Some people have no judgement at all!

You may know nothing about them - I don’t know you!

Many of us have however read, listened to and watched what Meghan has told us at length and directly in her engagement interview, her Vanity Fair interview, Oprah, a six part Netflix documentary, the many hours of Archetypes podcasts, speeches at the awards she has picked up, the magazine interviews she has done in The Cut and Variety, the interview with Tom Bradby, the Ellen DeGeneres show, her panel appearances at various events (most recently SWSX). Plus what’s been disclosed in her court case and said in evidence in that proceeding. There there has been everything she has said in the first series of “With Love, Meghan” (second series to come) and several more hours of “Confessions of a Female Founder” plus guest podcasts to add to the list. Plus her instagram content since January.

And then there’s all the things Meghan wants us to know via Harry in Spare, The Me You Can’t See, his Dax Shephard podcast, and his tv interviews to promote Spare, and all his court cases. Not to mention via Omid Scobie in Finding Freedom, Endgame and all his other content - most recently his BBC interview.

That’s quite a lot to be going on even before we get to the media articles and third party opinions (you can probably ignore them to be honest and just work your way through the above list. It will give you a sound basis for judgement…).

So the spread is for dipping things into it. That explains the consistency at least.

@SerensterApologies. The headline actually said “Is Meghan Markle’s favorite….etc”

Of course they are. I have said that many times. Althoygh it is a little naive to think the Mail didn’t choose M as their avocado eater, rather than a more popular royal.

I think after the initial Meghan is a Good Thing ( and of the most egregious press , the DJ / monkey thing - he was summarily sacked , Rachel Johnson fulsomely apologised for calling her exotic , and the Straight Outta Compton headline was very poor and was condemned) by and large M had positive press before the wedding.

After OW / Netflix doc etc I think in the UK at least their popularity tanked. (& I would rely more on the likes of @My2cents1975 and @BemusedAmerican to provide better opinions than me as to how their popularity went in the US for those who cared)

I think what M has slightly fallen foul of is that she is very high profile , her popularity in the UK is woeful ( if polls to be believed 1 above Andrew. ) So I think when there is a slow news day she is subject to "Oh and another thing" type reporting. Because people will read that. So is she a handy hook to hang an article on when she's an avocado eater? Yes . Is it fair ? No. Do I care if she eats avocados - No. I do (& thankfully am gloriously without fame so no-one cares.) I think the NF curtseying thing & comparing Windsor Castle or wherever it was with Medieval times was an ill-judged joke - I thought it made her look a bit silly - had she been genuinely funny she might have got away with it. But she wasn't, so it did come across as slightly disrespectful to some . But am I bothered about their vague insinuations of racism without naming specifics , eg implying A was not going to be called Prince because of his skin colour? Yes that annoyed me far beyond ham curtseying and avocados

So yes IMHO she's had some unfair press , but a lot of it trivial. I think the trouble is, it is easy for her fans to latch on to these more trivial things to say M is vilified / targeted etc. , if I am honest I think she's dished more out more important things than she has taken. The WLM / As Ever thing I think is a bit different in that it's just a soap opera to most people. Slightly fascinating from a business /PR etc POV but essentially a soap opera.

Other opinions are available.

She’s not very good at making fun of herself because she seems to thin skinned to do so.

If she’d told that anecdote about the first curtsy making fun of herself rather than the practice and the institution that required it, then she’d have come across as more likable.

Similar to how she couldn’t lean in with fun to Mariah Carey calling her a diva but seemed offended and upset.

If you ever watch the highlights reels of the best of Graham Norton’s chat show almost all the best stories have the person telling the anecdote making fun of themselves or making a mistake or doing something outrageous.

Oh please save us the “you know nothing about them” line.

Meghan and Harry have:

  • made a multi-part documentary about their private lives
  • written a tell-all best seller giving us WAY too much information
  • sat down to tell tales and whine on global TV with OW
  • made more speeches about themselves than you can shake a stick at.
We know far more about these two grifters than anyone would want to,

Or…are you saying they’ve been lying?

Which is it?

My2cents1975 · 04/07/2025 19:40

"Queen in brawl at Palace"

A clickbait headline in the 1970s implied that the Head of State was involved in a physical altercation at a royal residence.

The real story was that a striker for Crystal Palace named Gerry Queen was involved in a fracas and was sent off.

Everyone just rolled their eyes and moved on treating the clickbait as simply clickbait.

The prime minister as she was then curtsying to William was jus bizarre

Agree entirely.

Democratically elected head of UK government bobbing deferentially to an unelected and never to stand baby was nauseating.

Neither party should have countenanced it.

I can't find the posts now but there have been suggestions Henry should have had the NF scenes with Rachel parodying an overblown curtsey cut.

Personally I think it's unlikely he had any editorial say over what was broadcast (similarly Rachel snarling at her 'friend' about being a Sussex now).

Both debacles are entirely her own doing.

Classic narcissist behaviour. And I always wondered why the spouses of the narcs I know don’t rein them in, or leave; apparently the ‘doting (usually inadequate) partner’ is a classic feature too! Ding ding ding.

Can narcissists never tell self deprecating stories or make funny anecdotes about their mistakes?

Or maybe only with rehearsal?

CathyorClaire · 04/07/2025 20:27

Nepo baby!

WTF did that go?!?

BasiliskStare · 04/07/2025 20:29

@Petitchat

I do have to call you out on this one. @CoffeeCantata has pretty much said it. But they have put out a lot in their own words. How do you know Harry had had a breakdown - I don't think he has said it or been reported as having had one. I think living by the Hawkish media brings its own consequences & I think they have and continue to do so, eg "Good old fashioned media stitch up ?" In the spirit of this thread , if you do , are your points those which would make you support them?

ETA @CathyorClaire - I completely see why a prime Minister bobbing to the unelected HoS looks preposterous. But just at the moment it is how it works. I am sure a nod of the head would have worked also. Personally I think over time the simple recognition will win out. I hope so - unfair two ways to have to curtsey ( more difficult) whilst oft wearing a dress / skirt. But whilst we have what we have the more women who eschew the curtsey and do a respectful nod - I'm all for that.

The fact that the camera pans to Harry’s mortified face and lingers there during the curtesy suggests the director saw that this was a sensational moment. I think NF would have fought very hard to keep it whatever Harry’s feelings.

The spouse of the narc is in one of three situations at all times. Love bombing, devaluation or eventually discard. I would imagine Harry, who was clearly love bombed at the beginning of their relationship, and rushed into marriage, wouldn’t have had any idea who he had married for quite some time. She quickly stopped him seeing his friends and isolated him from his family successfully.

the devaluation phase kicks in and if someone has been successfully isolated (especially if they have children) they will go along with anything to get back in the good books of the narc, and back to the love bombing stage.

They don’t have the bandwidth to see themselves as anything other than perfect and supremely superior. They wouldn’t know how to be self deprecating or make fun of themselves. If someone took the piss or gently mocked them, they would react utterly confused, like that person had lost their mind.

That’s how a beautiful, privileged, multi millionaire can unashamedly stand in front of an African rape centre surrounded by traumatised young victims and on being interviewed the only sorrow or tears she shows are entirely for herself.

Narcissist.

Just wait until their kids are old enough to tell ‘their truth’ growing up with that.
