As per the DM, we are told Meg is using Fairwinds Estate winery for her rose. Sounds nice.
But a Reddit user has discovered, that Fairwinds winery is just a brand under the umbrella of Wine gift shop. They do corporate gifts and print on demand. Oh Meg, as ever

Well hopefully your one and only bottle - that effectively has cost you $110 for a single bottle you get to consume - survives the journey! And this elaborate arrangement is worth it to you to "support Meghan"? Madness.

Gosh when you put it like that!

Also there’s a note on the website about depending what State you reside in and the temperature- that it should be expedited shipping or collection.

So let’s hope it arrives and it’s not turned to vinegar

There’s no need for your level of derision. I think we’ve have had a few fair exchanges. I’ll stop responding to you now.

There's no 'derision'. I'm simply saying that picking up a cheap bottle of plonk in Tesco isn't quite the same as paying several times that (plus delivery) and hanging around waiting for god knows how long just so you can 'support' someone who wouldn't cross the road for you.

Uricon2 · 01/07/2025 19:25

If an (independent) Master of Wine or Head Sommelier comes out and says this is something exceptional and well worth the £21.88 a bottle, I'll eat my words.

In the meantime, all the indications are it is nothing special plonk with a massive markup.

I must have lived a sheltered life. I've never heard of " fandom" clubs before this thread.

Do you like to wundy it up and wundy it down?

Are you wundying me up :)

I've been trying to embrace 70's decor since I moved a couple of years ago to a house built in 1969. I'd LOVE macrame pot holders and many Mateus Rose bottles (not necessarily empty ones) to throw about the place :)

I may be enabling here but I picked up a couple of vintage macrame owls on eBay fairly reasonably although prices seems a bit higher now. I've no doubt vintage macrame pot holders are equally obtainable.

My vintage Mateus bottle was 20p in a jumble sale. One of my favourite bargains 😁

I guess the people who buy royal memorabilia or who camp out for a royal wedding are super fans/ cultish?

But it can be understood as being part of their identity due to patriotism or the history they feel part of.

I just don't understand the devotion to M. And no one ever explains.

I wonder if she represents the victimhood, anti racism, anti establishment, tear everything down culture. They just love that she's making life difficult for people in power?

Yes it's inconsistent because she wants the power and systus herself but I find those enjoying attacking the establishment don't care about such inconsistency in the midst of the glee.

I know, Strawberry. No-one EVER explains why they like Meghan. I’ve asked on here till I’m blue in the face. I can only conclude that either they have no clue about their own psychology and are unable to analyse why she appeals to them, or they are sadly inarticulate and don’t know how to put their gushing admiration into English.

Lol. I’ll have to make do with that.

You know we want to see the macrame owls, don't you?!

For some reason I keep getting ads for Dolly Parton wine today! 😂

I now feel terrible I binned my mum's vintage macrame owls when I cleared out her house. I enjoy the mid century aesthetic though and rescued the Ercol furniture.

One thing this thread has me goggling is vintage Mateus Rose bottle - I can't believe you scored one for 20p. Excellent work!

(Also Whispering Angel which is my Rose of choice)

Uricon2 · 01/07/2025 20:24

Mourning the Mateus bottle of yore.

I don't like midcentury modern, possibly because I was brought up by "trendy" parents who embraced it. I'm an Arts and Crafts girl, loving the despised brown furniture!

BasiliskStare · 01/07/2025 20:25

DH is having a glass of Tesco Finest Cote de Provence Rose ( £9.50 on offer) Not sure if it's exactly Whispering Angel , but cheaper . Apparently M&S have a really nice one cheaper than WA La Balcon ? (sp) £18. I have absolutely no idea where my DH has got his rose knowledge from. A mystery to me.

Uricon2 · 01/07/2025 20:28

There are many very decent wines for under 10 quid, especially when on offer. It would need to be quite exceptional for me to contemplate spending over £20 a bottle.

ThePoshUns · 01/07/2025 20:29

I hope Tom Gilby manages to get his hands on a bottle. I’d love to see his review of it on instagram.
i personally avoid any celeb wines as i would just assume they’re cheap shit with a huge mark up.
although I would like to try Miravel. I love rose but will be sticking to my Lidl cote de Provence , Merci.

I clicked out of curiosity but it wouldn’t let me in unless I put my date of birth, call me unnecessarily cautious but after their last data mining mission I’m not keen .

Yeah. I agree.

Anyone trusting a Sussex website with data is insane misguided in my view.

Do you want some speculation meant in absolute good faith? Because I think it’s an interesting subject and I’m happy to say what I think might be the answer to your question. Nothing new or mind blowing.

CathyorClaire · 01/07/2025 20:48

I (ridiculously) turned down the mid century (not Ercol thankfully but still good) corner combo DM was clearing which led to her donating them to her church.

They were subsequently destroyed in a fire which still rankles 😡

I'm genuinely interested @CurlewKate - because I think the controversy which she seems to attract is interesting. So if you are happy to say .....

What's gentle minerality when it's at home? It makes me think of sediment and a metallic taste - but I know nothing about wine so perhaps it's an oft-used descriptor.

Limescale?

I get it. I bought a parasol for the garden and have spent more time than I care to mention using the cool wind-up handle to put it up and down. And up and down. And - well, I'm sure you get the idea :)

My hose arrived and I have spent an enjoyable couple of hours watering my garden and testing out the different nozzle settings 🙂

Yes - definitely! I do have a few theories but I wish those who so loyally defend her would just explain why, in the face of overwhelming evidence of her bad behaviour, they adore Meghan so deeply.

I suppose I’m fascinated by the fact that different people will see, hear and read the same things yet react so differently.

Mylovelygreendress · 01/07/2025 21:11

I too would be genuinely interested in the reasons why some people admire and almost worship Meghan @CurlewKate

Profhilodisaster · 01/07/2025 21:12

I think that members of the Sussex Squad would struggle to explain why they are so fanatical about her. I reckon some of them are now so caught up in it all that they can't back away for fear of incurring the wrath of the others.
