As per the DM, we are told Meg is using Fairwinds Estate winery for her rose. Sounds nice.
But a Reddit user has discovered, that Fairwinds winery is just a brand under the umbrella of Wine gift shop. They do corporate gifts and print on demand. Oh Meg, as ever

But isn’t that how any “celebrity endorsement” works? I mean Clint Eastwood doesn’t make his ranch dressing, or Gwynnth Paltrow her candles. You do have to be stupid to pay extra money for the name, but you only have to look round a supermarket to see that plenty of people are stupid enough. And you’d have to be VERY stupid indeed to think Markle treads her own grapes….

You can only work with what you have. They obviously don’t have much talent but as far as I am concerned they are trying to make a dollar and not harming anyone. I can’t really get worked up about what she is doing unlike some posters who seem to scrutinise every minute detail of what she does.

But there is harm, every promotion comes with a swipe at the royal family. Reports of bullying on two continents. Both with the same grievance hymm sheet. This week it lies and truth, it's not rocket science to understand their meanings. Whilst this continues they will continue to be interesting.

Why all the criticism she is trying to make a living she isn’t harming anyone. Perhaps some posters are only happy if she is trashing the almighty RF. If there is legitimate reason to hate then do so but not when she is trying to make a living. Or is that the reason you want them to come back into the fold and live off the tax payers like the rest of them.

I'm criticising the hypocrisy. I hope her business is a success.

I'd have more respect for her if she put her money where her mouth is and supported and promoted ethical local business whom she partnered with (like Ca based black American owned wineries), and stopped pretending it was all from her own garden. Speak about her suppliers, why she chose them, how they support the local economy etc.

I have zero interest in them coming back to the UK, and I doubt Meghan will. If she comes to KC3 funeral she will need to curtsey to King William and Queen Catherine.

I mean, you can get Kylie Minogue Prosecco and Graham Norton Malbec….

And I can and would criticise their products if they also employed hackneyed drop shipping business methods.

From Wiki. Marie Antoinette's Le Hameau. It seems

'Marie Antoinette also managed the estate by overseeing various works, correcting or approving plans, and talking with the head farmer and laborers. In addition to the head farmer Valy Bussard, Marie Antoinette hired a team of gardeners, a rat-catcher, a mole-catcher, two herds-men, and various servants to work on the estate.

In spite of its idyllic appearance, the hamlet was a real farm, fully managed by a farmer appointed by the queen, with its vineyards, fields, orchards and vegetable gardens producing fruit and vegetables consumed at the royal table. Animals from Switzerland, according to the instructions of the queen, were raised on the farm. For this reason the place was often called "the Swiss hamlet".'

My take is that MA (of all people) had more of a clue about actually running something than erm some later Royals.

I’m still slightly gobsmacked that they’re launching wine on Diana’s birthday, given she was killed by a drunk driver. Anything to remind people of the link to her I guess.

Good bye Montecito's rose wine.

Graham Norton does not hide the fact that he collaborates with an established vineyard. Neither does Kylie Minogue, who works with several, all referenced on her website. From what I can tell, both Norton and Minogue work with the partners to make a product unique to them. Rather than a white label drop ship.

The meta data cover up on the As ever teas and sprinkles - after the cat was already out of the bag - have cheapened what could have been an uncomplicated and open partnership arrangement with the supplier. Instead, she looks like she has something to hide and is trying to deceive the customers.

It is very different,

Gwyneth collaborated with Heretic Parfume to develop her candles, she has always been open about that. she collaborates with Juice beauty for some of her skincare brands, Goop by Juice beauty, and has her own in house team developing products. George Clooney and his buddies worked for years with a distillery in Mexico to develop their Casamigos brand, and are transparent about that. Cameron Diaz and her partner said they spent two years learning about wine and then travelled to various vineyards around the world choosing their organic wine, they also name their wine producers, (along with all the ingredients, which is their USP). Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have / had their own vineyard producing the really successful, Chateau Miraval Rosé, and they also are transparent that their vineyards are managed by the Perrin family and the wine was developed in collaboration with them.

Meghan on the other hand was trying to present a bespoke artisan product line, she has been so secretive about the provenance of her products, that people began to be suspicious and discovered that, in fact, she is flogging off the shelf product that someone else has in their generic product catalogue.

It appears no input from her at all into the products she is selling, I guess it explains why she claims she was so preoccupied with the packaging, she possibly had nothing to do with the product at all.

Clint Eastwood had a brand called Pale Rider Ales - originally sold under the tagline, "You didn't expect Clint Eastwood to make a salad dressing, did you?"

Wrong cowboy!

Thedom · 29/06/2025 16:52

Oh and Newmans Own, do have their own manufacturing facility.

Thedom · 29/06/2025 16:53

@RandyRedHumpback LOL

Uricon2 · 29/06/2025 16:59

Newmans Own started off very small, almost as a joke but with the idea of raising a bit (!) of money for charity. It took off because a) it's really quite good and well priced b) it's for very good causes c) Paul Newman was real A list and internationally well liked. Spot which factors missing.

She could have had a business though, there is no shame in earning your own money. It's all been gone about in entirely the wrong way and it seems to get shabbier by the day.

🤣 !! I did wonder! 🤣

JSMill · 29/06/2025 17:04

Paul Newman salad dressing is a good example that ultimately the product has to be good. It was a bit of a joke when it first came out but then people realised it was actually good. Most people under the age of 45 wouldn’t know who he is but it’s still in the supermarkets. I have some in my fridge. Don’t forget the profits went to a children’s charity. I note that M the philanthropist and humanitarian hasn’t declared she’s giving any of hers to good causes.

jeffgoldblum · 29/06/2025 17:13

Mary berry’s blue cheese dressing is fabulous too! 😋

jeffgoldblum · 29/06/2025 17:20

Still I’ve been thinking 🤔, if Clint Eastwood had launched salad dressing…….
” This is ranch dressing, the most delicious dressing in the world, and it might just blow your head clean off !”

I agree. It’s time they dropped the royalty and links and relied on their own talent.

Er, what talent?

hepsitemiz · 29/06/2025 17:26

Sorry for the image quality, @Profhilodisaster posted this on another thread and asked if the apricot was maybe upside down.

That I don't know, but in this picture they could have done a better job of making it look like she was actually picking the fruit off of the tree...
Here she is taking a carefully chosen and, crucially, ripe fruit and reaching up with it towards a tree whose fruits need at least another week to properly ripen.

When you pick fruit, the whole bough bends downwards as you tug it from the branch.

Here, it looks as if she's holding an apricot of the desired quality up to the tree, saying "see this apricot? That's what I want you to make for me, tree".
