Wish I could go back and find all those posters who predicted a Kardashian-esqe social media blitz at some point in H&M's future, wonder where are all the posters who we're so affronted by the very idea of that.

People magazine and all, the uber celeb magazine.

I guess needs must with the downfall of her business efforts, \oh look, here are my kids whose privacy we have decided to forego for the greater good of taking the heat off what a crap business woman I am'.

Maybe he was lent a Linguaphone record (or tape).

I am honestly gobsmacked that he still feels the need to wear those four medals: the Afghanistan Service Medal for having been posted to Afghanistan, and the three medals to celebrate the late Queen's gold, diamond and platinum jubilees. I am seriously considering sending him my CDM to add to them.

It's just more of his hypocrisy, isn't it?

Didn’t Germany have any veterans of their own who could have made a speech on their first Veterans Day? Why did they need Harry?

But apart from that. Did anyone else feel sad at the sight of him standing there, hanging on to the shirt tails of his former life and having to say ‘the German Defence Minister invited me to do this’ just so no one would think he was having his own wee version of a TTC following yesterdays parade.

And the medals - that was the saddest part of all.

I feel quite sad for him today.

It is sad.

Even if all had gone well with his new life, he was likely to feel a little pensive at times like Trooping the Colour. Now, he probably feels quite lonely.

OctopusFriend · 15/06/2025 19:06

I think William seemed quite fluent, it was in conversation with someone, I think?

Tripthelightfantastical · 15/06/2025 19:08

Uricon2 · 15/06/2025 19:02

What the actual fuck are you playing at, Harry?

I don’t think he knows himself.

My2cents1975 · 15/06/2025 19:11

W actually spoke in French at the Blue Economy Forum in Monaco. He opened his speech in French with several sentences and closed his speech with several sentences.

Shouting out hello [name of country] in the local language has been standard for touring bands since the 1980s. It certainly doesn't warrant a press release to The Sun.

Bit odd that imitating W was the selected PR strategy vs. a normal Father's Day post.

Uricon2 · 15/06/2025 19:12

I can't understand why he would make himself such an Aunt Sally. Yes, it's for Invictus which is international (and that's a good thing) but even members of the RF who served with distinction on the Allied side in WW2 (like Philip) got pilloried for their German antecedents and really quite recently. Also, there are reasons why Germany has only just implemented a Veterans Day.

I don't think he's thought through the sort of publicity this is going to get..or perhaps he has.

Weepixie · 15/06/2025 19:12

@OctopusFriend the late Queen was fluent in French and had been educated in it for a large part of her home based school years.

And I suspect William is pretty fluent also, he’s called Papa by the children and his pet name for Charlotte is something beginning with an M that also sounds like the name of a French sauce.

No way was I having a go at writing the pet name. 🤣

upinaballoon · 15/06/2025 19:13

I know an English-born person who married a person from another country and has lived there for decades. When H went to the USA she wondered if he would be homesick. I think all people are bound to be to some extent or at some times, but he might have liked a place in the ceremony yesterday and the familiarity of the place and the buffet. He should wear his Afghan medal. He served there.

Is it possible for the King to ask him over for a couple of nights in June next year and be a guest in the parade?

Weepixie · 15/06/2025 19:13

@bluegreygreen I agree with you.

Yes, I think William can at least converse in French. I expect he paid attention in school, and then made the effort.

That would really make sure that the focus was on the Colour being trooped 😂

H cannot be trusted not to run back to Netflix with new RF exclusives, so why would KC3 expose himself, his firstborn son and the rest of the RF to be fodder for H in his next interview?

And given that H's recollections vary from reality (H was not alone and at boarding school in the UK when the Queen Mother died but was skiing in Switzerland with his father and brother), why would KC3 trust H at all?

Uricon2 · 15/06/2025 19:26

The really ironic thing about all this is that Harry (and Meghan) could have been such an asset to the RF and made a true, significant difference in the world if they hadn't stropped off.

I occasionally think about how stressful their lives must be, making cock up after cock up with what must be dwindling funds (by the standard of their lifestyle) and it is sad.

I agree. And after almost 50 years of living where I do my homesickness can at times be acute even though it hasn’t happened in the past. I’m getting older and a good few of my cousins, very close long standing family friends, school friends, my (half) sister who I’d only known for 10 years have died in the last two or three years and my longing to be in Scotland with everyone else was overwhelming. I couldn’t jump on a plane every time someone passed away but even when I did, coming home was hard as was being here once I got home and the only place I really wanted to be was in Scotland with everyone who was missing the same person I was missing. I didn’t want to be out of the loop when it came to grieving. I didn’t want to be in my own bubble, even though my home and my heart is where I live.

There must be times when Harry feels the loss of so much.

Edited

I’m not convinced by William’s language skills, his pronunciation was pretty self conscious. I suspect he was very well rehearsed to make his speech sound fluent.

Well done to him for trying, as he doesn’t seem that comfortable with public speaking in any language, but I don’t think William is going to be dazzling anybody with his conversational French.

slinkiemalinkiey · 15/06/2025 19:36

I would say Harry is more Auf Wiedersehen Pet but he's not that funny.

OctopusFriend · 15/06/2025 19:37

Oh my god, he's going to claim he's bilingual now, isn't he? Except he won't be able to spell or say it, but maybe someone can help him out.

slinkiemalinkiey · 15/06/2025 19:38

I thought you were going to say Meghan had posted this @jeffgoldblum as a Father's Day tribute but no. He's Spare yet again.

He and Meghan can converse in Spanish and German 🤷‍♀️

Put H in a carriage with Louis. See who the attention is on then.

After almost 50 years in this part of the world I still avoid speaking Arabic every chance I get and if I can’t avoid it I get very self conscious and no one would ever know just how fluent my Arabic is unless they were told.

It's just more of his hypocrisy, isn't it?

Not exactly hypocrisy, just asking to be jeered at. And since he is no longer supposed to wear his uniform in public, it's not even fruit salad or chest candy, just side. They are all ceremonial, not for any particular achievement, so my CDM jibe was entirely justified.

In fact it's pretty thoroughly sidey to wear the medals as opposed to the ribbons or miniatures on a lounge suit....

"In civilian clothes, including DJ, white tie and indeed military mess kit, ONLY miniatures should be worn, never the full-sized medal." This applied to the late Duke of Edinburgh (there are pictures of him in his miniatures at dinners for visiting royalty and presidents) and I would suppose it ought also to apply to his grandson.

OctopusFriend · 15/06/2025 19:46

Thanks, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime .
I thought it looked odd.
