I've embarrassed for Meghan saying that her arranging takeaway food on a plate is the same thing as what Figs Heather Hasson has done 😬

Indeed but - as I have said before- the beautiful house on Windsor Estate , the staff, £2 million allowance etc wasn’t enough so long as they had to walk behind William and Catherine.

I imagine she wanted the castle, not the (glorious) “cottage”!

BigWillyLittleTodger · 01/06/2025 21:57

Rumour has it she thought she was getting Frogmore House not Frogmore cottage!

Although not surprising given that she described the historic Kensington Palace cottage designed by Christopher Wren as a "frat house".

I think that Meghan actually prefers a McMansion to a historic property.

My goodness, really! If she googled ;) slightly incorrectly she’d be aghast! Perhaps H, not hot on details, didn’t put her right!

I can just imagine it

Harry: Granny has offered us the house at Frogmore
Meghan: (quickly googles) Wow! Frogmore House! It's fantastic and perfect for us ... call her back and accept! Ask about a budget for decorating.
(A few days later they arrive at Frogmore Cottage to view the house and decide on renovations)
Meghan: Wait ... WTF is this place?
Palace Aide: Frogmore Cottage ma'am. Your husband said you were very keen on it ...

They actually wanted an apartment in Windsor Castle .
The Queen said no.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 01/06/2025 22:40

Yes if she thought it was the house she must have been gutted, though I much prefer Frogmore Cottage to that awful fake McMansion they live in with the outdated kitchen.

Surely Frogmore Cott an upgrade then? It’s charming.

But saying your address is Windsor Castle is much more impressive than Frogmore Cottage !

Windsor Castle apartment would have been a very strategic move. It’s where the late Queen spent a significant part of each year - so you have the adjacency to the monarch and have the chance to invite guests to visit when you can promise them the possibility of bumping into the Queen.

Long term, it becomes their ‘base’ associated with them, their home. It’s indicated that Charles isn’t that attached to Windsor as a base so they’d have the main run of the place during his time.

Then when William is King if he wanted to use the monarch’s apartments or every time he was there for duties like investitures etc he’d be coming onto their ‘turf’ - they’d effectively have established a second ‘court’.

It was a very smart ask - but I assume someone on the Queen’s staff clocked it as well.

Interesting & possibly the Queen herself.

I should think so. I think she had M sussed quite early on.

I read somewhere, possibly Tom Bower, that M was caught poking around in areas of the Castle she had no business being in. Picking out an apartment, perhaps.

I think it was Will and Kate's apartment at Kensington Palace when H&M were living at Nottingham cottage.

I did think Meghan setting herself up as in influencer and launching a brand was a good idea to generate a sustainable business venture. It might not make them mega-rich, but could give them a good income with an aim to building up a brand that she could look to sell and cash out in time.

It’s a competitive market though, and Meghan’s business plans and launches have been, to be charitable, bumpy to date. I do wonder whether this is another opportunity that will fizzle out.

I agree. I thought she was onto something that was sustainable and had the potential to be successful as well.

I agree that this was their aim, to stage a sort of “takeover” of Windsor. It was very transparent but always a non starter since, aside from the fact that it was an obvious turf grab, it would have put them in a “more senior” position than both the then Prince of Wales and the then Cambridges, given that neither of those had an apartment at Windsor, close to the monarch. I also think that Meghan may genuinely have aspired to the Disney idea of living in an actual castle

Oh God, definitely. She is completely nouveau.

And so greedy. Now I wouldn't want to be royal or to live in a palace/castle, but Meghan did, and if you do that, you have to accept what you're given. Surely being suddenly royal, having a massive clothing allowance, servants, elite transport, unearned status etc etc would be enough. But not for Meghan...comparison was definitely the thief of joy for her. Catherine had bigger, better in everything and she just couldn't cope with that.

MrsGusset · 02/06/2025 09:34

Frogmore House used to be open to the public for several days each year in aid of charity.

I remember going once & getting quite a buzz out of driving my clapped out old banger down the Long Walk at Windsor Castle to get there.

The house is lovely with magnificent grounds and before my visit I hadn't realised that Wallis Simpson is buried there. She lies with the Duke of Windsor & many other Royals in a small graveyard area.

But the house hasn't been open at all in recent years. I suspect this is because of its proximity to Adelaide Cottage where the Wales family live so there are likely to be security concerns.

Well she had been to Medieval Times and knew what it was like 🙄

She manifests straw into gold, so far it’s worked pretty well for her. She’s the Queen of manifestation right from the off & ‘Rules’ on first date. Good for her, it’s a masterclass in how far this can take you. Tenacity, some talent & beauty, if ‘played’, lead to the opposite of a humdrum life. If beautiful, acquire sophistication & world at feet, if smart.

If anything it’s a masterclass in how to spectacularly fail at everything in front of a world audience. She has fallen from being being a duchess on the world stage to someone e selling jam and pancake mix on the internet. This is not my definition of success

DipsyDee · 02/06/2025 10:42

I am not saying it’s my value or yours, but from what I’ve seen of her what your outline in first para might well be hers. Yes, in that case, goal met, mission accomplished.

Winning a place at a good Uni no mean feat but take point. Guess I am hoping she proves everyone wrong in time & at least she’s trying to finance lifestyle, what’s H doing?

She will prove no one wrong. She’s as transparent as a pane of glass

A video recently popped up on Facebook of the RF on the balcony for the 100th anniversary of the RAF. M
placed herself right beside HMQ although she should have been standing further down the side. You could clearly tell that HMQ was annoyed and kept subtly looking in M’s direction. I wonder if anyone ticked her off for that kind of behaviour or she would get away with it.
