The royal family

Do you think some of you are addicted to hating Harry and Meghan?

More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

Thanks, but I’d really rather not risk falling foul of the rules (my post would almost certainly be reported and removed). And honestly, even if I did quote it, I suspect it would still somehow be dismissed or twisted, much like what seems to be happening now 🤭

Other people have verified that they have seen those types of threads, if you’re choosing not to see or acknowledge them, that’s on you.

Fair enough. I did skim read the threads you linked to. As I said, if you point me towards the worst, I will read it thoroughly, and acknowledge any hate. But if you’re not prepared to do that, then there’s nowhere to go.<shrugs>

What @PrettyFlyforaMaiTai is saying is correct. Any long-term reader on this board know it that all I'm going to say.

Samcro · 12/05/2025 16:15

late to the thread.
there have been a few "pro " threads. they don't go well as posters will insist of derailing with "non pro" posts and accusations of the "pro" posters wanting an echo chamber.
I have called "non pro" posters "haters" only because IMO to posts some of the stuff that is said about H&M you would have to hate them.
"pro" posters are called all sorts, stans/ss/ fan girls and so on. it seems unless you want to post negative stuff you must be a fan, it can't be because you don't think they are not as bad as they are made out to be on mn.

{edited to add a not)

Well back at you the same 😂😂😂 .

End of conversation! 😂

Only I didn’t make a point of saying I don’t care, like you did. 🫤

We all ‘care’ to a degree to be posting here after all.

👍

You’re very much giving off this vibe. It’s entertaining to watch though 🤣

wowwhataday · 12/05/2025 16:33

I think this thread is coming to a natural end as everyone has had their say (and then some). I do think we all have to be careful to resist hating people for enjoyment or entertainment, whoever they are. I’ll leave you with this. Could you resist posting or reading about them for a week? How does the thought of that make you feel? Is it worth it?

You haven't learnt very much from this thread, have you, @wowwhataday? Many poster have refuted your use of the word hate. Not one has said they hate H & M, although there are people outside Mumsnet who do say they hate them.

Happy to entertain. These threads entertain me too. 🤪

Sorry OP - did we wake you up?

Are you by any chance going to do pps the courtesy of answering the questions and points which have been put to you in this thread, which you yourself started?

CoffeeCantata · 12/05/2025 16:41

Should have added - what makes you think I'm going to answer yet more of your questions until you've answered some of mine? 😂

And you're the one who tells people here that they're haters...please don't put words into others' mouths.

You’re like a dealer, feeding the habit/addiction by posting threads like this one OP.

They might have more success by weaning off slowly rather than going cold turkey, say from 60 posts a day for some to 50, then 40 and so on. Like any addiction though, the person has to want to stop for themselves. 😂

wowwhataday · 12/05/2025 17:14

@CoffeeCantata

The main question you’ve asked is this, I think

I'd like OP to answer this question: why do you think it's strange that people have an opinion, and feel the need to comment, on 2 people who put themselves constantly in the public eye? Oh, and who preach to us all? And continue their attacks on the RF, even those suffering from cancer? I don't understand why OP thinks that's so odd.)
OP? If you start a thread, I think you need to answer some questions yourself.

My answer is about being proportionate. If you’ve answered once or twice why the need to keep at it. When does it become an overwhelming focus for you where you’re thinking and posting about it all the time, waiting eagerly for new events to comment on, annoyed if it’s quiet. Only you can be true to yourself on this but it comes across as obsessive and meeting an emotional need in you rather than a genuine and proportionate interest.

I agree with you. A couple with two young children aren't there for sport, nastiness and generally being sneered at. Continually. Even when there really really isn't much to say.

Saying you just stumbled across these threads is like someone explaining an affair by saying they fell into someone’s vagina, it’s really very easily avoidable

I take it you have done some quite extensive research on the board to use such strong languages “ addiction”

Do you intend to do the same on the FWR boards or Style and beauty? That lot do love a bag

But this couple dish it out so all fair in love and war

Things are never as they seem though are they? People flip flop and change names. Others I suspect take over names on a shift basis eg there is one poster in particular who has two totally different personalities and command of grammar when posting. It's all a mystery.

They are not private people however. Meghan uses her children in her instagrams. She is the one who exposes them to this despite saying that social media is something children should be protected from. Harry talks about their children and compares them to Diana. They are hypocrites. They court the media. You get the rough with the smooth.

There should be less of it now that you can’t change names on threads? Or do you mean they change names when posting on different threads?

Not much to say? They're constantly putting themselves out there for comments. They're being controversial, they're seeking publicity. If they have 2 young children, then they should consider what details they keep sharing.

Dear lord we know a lot about Harry and Meghan.... thanks to Harry and Meghan. There's a simple solution to all this, isn't there?!

Brilliant! 😂😂 it’s always the same MO isn’t it, supposedly new posters who happen to just stumble across these threads, normally with the caveat of whilst ‘preparing the tea’ and ‘I’m not a H&M fan but’ then they clutch their pearls in horror to give everyone a severe telling off with lengthy posts over many pages, using all the negative terms on this thread at regular posters, it’s quite funny really 😂.

What if they are the ones addicted to being in the news cycles?

And I don’t know how you can claim there isn’t much to say given they have released many “behind the scenes” photos and videos of their (private) lives this week alone.

I also muse with interest about how there is a new book about Diana out this month (still producing bestsellers nearly 30 years after her death!). Called “Dianaworld: An obsession” the blurb states:

For more than forty years, Diana, Princess of Wales, has been mythologized to the most extraordinary degree. Adored and lionized by some, ridiculed and traduced by others, Diana has always commanded a cultural presence unmatched by any other member of the royal family.

For better or for worse, the British Royal family bestride the world of popular culture like film stars and soap stars combined. We think we know them (we don’t). They inspire fascination, respect and contempt. If they intentionally engage with that fascination - as Diana did, as Meghan does - then that fascination grows. Plus ça change….
